My (um) wife and daughter just did them, I had no problem with no position and then changing them, myilga manage slips. After filling out the witness slip the Manage Slip page needs to be refreshed. The witness slip you just filled out will be on the page and you can then update it. I tried the workaround and submitted two as No Position and amended them afterward. After those two, I could choose opponent or proponent for the rest and they went through without error or delay.
