DMG2827 Posted February 6, 2023 at 07:43 AM Share Posted February 6, 2023 at 07:43 AM I applied for a FOID a year or two ago. Was denied due to mental health. This was a misunderstanding. I am a U.S. veteran, and have never been court ordered, institutionalized, or hospitalized due to mental health. The application questions are so broad. I answered yes, as I do see my family physician for anxiety. However, I should not have been denied as they gave me no opportunity to clarify my answer. I missed the 60 day appeal, and am now reading Illinois is putting together a board to handle appeals? Can anybody offer any advice as to how to go about getting this decision overturned? Back when I originally applied, I was reading the wait could take years. This was a complete misunderstanding and should have never been denied. Is the process to appeal any faster now? What is the next step I need to take to get the approval of my FOID? Thanks!
