Thanks to lawmakers like State Representative Bob Morgan who prioritize public safety, Illinois now has the Protect Illinois Communities Act. In addition to providing a statewide ban on weapons of war, this legislation creates a tracking system for existing assault weapons, prevents the sales of dangerous firearms through universal background checks, creates a taskforce to oversee and make recommendations for preventing illegal interstate gun trafficking, and extends the firearm restraining order from six-months to one-year.  We are grateful for the leadership of Governor JB Pritzker, Senate President Don Harmon, Speaker Emanuel Chris Welch, State Senator Ram Villivalam, Representative Bob Morgan, and the numerous advocates, activists and survivors on this historic measure. This victory proves that, together, we can work to end gun violence.
