WilsonCQB1911 Posted January 16, 2023 at 04:12 PM Share Posted January 16, 2023 at 04:12 PM I'm considering submitting a Form 1 for an AR pistol. I'm relatively intelligent and have done a fair amount of research but I can't find a definitive answer as to the legality. I plan to get an 03 FFL, which provides an exception to the ban on SBRs in the state. However, I'm in Cook county which makes thing murky. Also unsure whether the latest state legislation affects or nullifies any of the local ordinances.

If you want to go this route you will want to get your C&R and letter to the CLEO in the mail first thing in the morning. You've got time on the rest but that C&R can take some time, in fact you might not get it in time, although you may have it by the time they get around to processing your form 1. Do I need to wait for the 03 to come back before filing the Form 1? Or would it be safe to do both concurrently?

The 120 days starts once the update hits the federal register (maybe sometime next week). I don't know that there's a benefit to submitting the form 1 earlier. Given the expected backlog and the fact you're legal as long as you applied it seems better to wait until the last minute so that even a denial could take years - decades by some estimates. pdl099 Posted January 20, 2023 at 02:45 PM Share Posted January 20, 2023 at 02:45 PM I think I know the answer to this, but if you are in a municipality that currently bans SBRs and with the recent ATF ruling banning pistol braces and forcing people to register formerly AR/AK pistols as SBRs, I assume even FFL 03 holders would NOT be exempt from the local ban? WilsonCQB1911 Posted February 20, 2023 at 07:46 PM Author Share Posted February 20, 2023 at 07:46 PM Got my 03 FFL in 21 days. Submitted two form 1s. We shall see. I can't find any info on anyone getting denied so maybe I'm worrying too much.
