Calls to action....

This might be more of a b... but it would be nice if either there was a separate forum that didn't allow us peasant's ;) to respond or call to actions didn't have responses and things we had to dig through.

Click here and do that, if something changes or there's more related another post but I really would like not to have to dig.   They come in order and I try to follow but sometimes I really try to share these links with people that aren't members and well s.....

I think a lot of folks like the team feeling of posting in the actual topics.

Typically, all the info about the actual alert is in the opening post, or sometimes two opening posts if there are a lot of witness slips.  If things change we post a new alert to draw attention to the fact that it needs folks' attention, instead of being just an update.

Why must it be either/or? Continue with the status quo that includes instructions and discussion, but is it possible to add one place where new links (for submissions and tallies) get appended in list form?

I send alerts to an email list and also invite people to check out IC as the source, so ease of navigation and a big-picture view is helpful.

Like a sub-forum that would mirror the alerts in IllinoisPolitics?

Or more like a pinned topic within IllinoisPolitics that would be a running list of alerts?

Or something else?

Would this work?

It's a listing of all the 2022 alerts, with links to the opening post of each topic where you can find the witness slip info, and links to each bill on the ILGA status page.  It could be pinned to the top of Illinois Politics the way we pin the list of bills we're watching.

Thanks, mauserme.  Some highlighting or grouping might be helpful to separate which bills need the most attention versus ones from earlier in the year.

That gets pretty fluid sometimes.  HB5535 Firearms Violations for example was brought up in the 12/12/22 hearing as a potential companion bill to HB5855.  It was included in our 2/13/2022 Call to Action and will be again if it looks like that's getting any traction.

The best way to figure out the priorities on any given day is to look at the most recent alert.

I suspected that's the case and the list would expand going forward. Is there any reason to have the list going back to early 2022?

FWIW my thoughts….

you should have a stickied thread entitled ALERTS that only YOU, or your delegate, can post in. All Alerts and CALLS TO ACTION should go in that thread - this will provide an easily referenced chronological record of them without the clutter we have now.

When you make a post in the ALERTS thread create a corresponding ALERTS COMMENTARY thread and link to it in the ALERT post. This thread will hold all commentary and the numerous DONE posts that really add nothing to the discussion.
Everything’s kept together - the Calls are easily found in the ALERT thread and the commentary in the linked commentary thread. Folks aren’t deprived of their ability to post DONE while others don’t have to wade through them all trying to figure out what’s up with the calls and alerts.
