And the moral of the story is, as long as you don't know what they are doing and get spooked, it works!

I was totally spooked by what happened to me.  I never went back to any Sports Authority and I never walked back into that bank to ask why my account was closed.

Eleven years ago all of this intelligence was gleaned via BI tools from Target's customer database and purchasing transaction data.  Now that data is married with digital tracking from various ad networks (both closed and open gardens) to expand the intelligence to determine what you want to, or need to be influenced to, purchase next.  If you want to make sure you firearm and ammo purchases are not widely visible, don't take your phone, and pay with cash you withdrew at least 6 months ago.  Also borrow your buddies copy of Guns & Ammo to do your research and do not do any research on the internet.  You probably shouldn't go through a toll booth either.  On second thought have your buddy give you a ride.

Yup, got a banking app on that phone?  Check the permissions on those banking apps.

If they have access to location data they have that data for a reason - they are using it.

...except that this'll eventually get reversed, likely once some state AGs file suit, or an enterprising young political figure from a certain swing state turns it into a political issue.

This isn't 2000 anymore.

No, it is 2023, where totalitarianism is still creeping.

Many credit card issuers (and/or banks), have traditionally been chartered in Biden's Delaware.  Coincidence?

It started in 1899, long before Biden was born.

I had my paypal account closed a while back.  Never used it for much.  Last transaction was to crossbreed holsters.  I've reached out to them multiple times requesting explanation for shutdown of my account.  Crickets..

Did you only use it for gun related purposes?

PayPal is the major means we have for paying our dues here. I do not think any of our PayPal accounts or that of IC have been closed due to our relationship to guns.

A VERY large percentage of all companies are, it's their incorporation rules, legal protection, and taxes.

It does sort of hit on all the major points as to why someone would want to put some of their money in stock vs blowing all of it on vice. Moderation in everything, especially moderation and all that.

The last 4 months of transactions went to either Roku for boss lady's programs or one payment for a holster.  Take it for what its worth.

It was getting pretty scary for a while, I recall an article that talked about some ads playing audio that was undetectable to humans but you could pick it up with electronics, that was so they could track you in different stores. Sure enough there were plenty of times I would be listening to my XM app on my phone playing what ever, go to a site and it would turn off XM app and you didn’t hear anything.

The digital infrastructure is getting more scary every day.  The sad thing is that it can be very helpful to consumers by delivering relevant advertising messages which provide choices.  On the other hand it provides power that is way too tempting for governments and companies who aren't so consumer friendly.  Right now there are studies that show the younger generations are starting to pull back from being digitally tracked and starting to voice their opposition to big government and big companies tracking them for any reason.

Many years ago when PayPal was owned by eBay it was anti-gun, PayPal doesn't give a rats ... anymore, they just want to make money like everyone else.   Made me laugh because I bought a mislabeled antique firearm on eBay once.  (and made a small fortune re-selling it, extremely rare)

PayPal policies still say no firearm or ammunition sales. Are you saying they no longer enforce this policy?

They stopped caring long ago HOWEVER they just cancelled my paypay for membership fee's in a collectors organization TODAY.

I suspect I'll see several more of these since I use paypal for more that just this one.

You can no longer do business with PayPal

After a review, we decided to permanently limit your account as we found potential risk associated with it.

You'll not be able to conduct any further business using PayPal.

Based on this decision, if applicable, you are no longer eligible for PayPal Seller Protection as per our User Agreement. You'll also be charged a High Volume Dispute fee based on your activity for all existing and future cases you receive.

Any bank or credit card information that's linked to your PayPal account cannot be removed nor can it be added to another account. You can still log in and see your account information but you can't send or receive money.

If you have funds in your PayPal balance, we'll hold it for up to 180 days. After that period, we'll email you with information on how to access your funds.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause.

that's a little scary because I use paypal, in part, to accept payments for my classes. I hate using paypal, but about 10% of my customers use it.  I just went to see if they blocked me and so far so good!

Here is another PayPal user who got the same email a year ago. He inadvertently typed the wrong email address for items he had for sale. Server buyers used that email address to send money. That address was not on his PayPal account. That set off security alerts and his account was suspended. He called PayPal and got the matter settled. His type of business is not identified. I doubt that he deals in guns. I could be wrong.

Remington Society, Ruger Society, to name a few, the one I have received is for Remington, I guess I should expect more from other.

I was looking at paypal alternatives, there's a few, not more costly and actually work better but it all takes time.

Thanks for posting.  Thought I heard this in passing but didn’t see any headlines.  Good news but still don’t trust them further than I could throw a “purchase flagging” case of ammo.
