Rev Jim Posted August 8, 2022 at 10:03 PM Share Posted August 8, 2022 at 10:03 PM Last Friday, ABC 7 had special coverage of "gun violence" that inlcuded this report by Chuck Gowdie who amazed me by being somewhat balanced in dispelling some of the myths around the AR15: https://abc7chicago.com/ar-guns-myths-about-armalite/12102897/ Two half hour shows aired the same day; Our Chicago Stop the Violence. One had a round table discussion with Father Pfleger, Supt. Brown, Evelyn Holmes and several others from the community. Pretty much the only one to mention gun control as a solution was Brown, who called to ban assault weapons for a minute, but he was then asked why violent offenders are put back on the streets. Even Fr. Pfleger talked about how cops, prsecutors and judges have to step up and do their part in protecting the community. Overall the emphasis was on community involvement and not on guns. I was floored at the fact that these people expressed what many people know but never say. I felt like I had slipped into some sort of parrallel dimension or something. Did anyone else watch these? Chuck Goudy and that "I-Team" did some weird stuff before the McDonald ruling, if I recall correctly.
thepointbeing Posted August 10, 2022 at 04:37 PM Share Posted August 10, 2022 at 04:37 PM Last month AP News (Associated Press) issued recommendations to their Twitter writers to refrain from referencing "assault rifles" and "assault weapons." AP explained that they were "highly politicized terms ... convey little meaning about the actual functions of the weapon."
