mab22 Posted July 3, 2022 at 08:50 PM Posted July 3, 2022 at 08:50 PM Here are some of the takeaways from NY State new laws, Guaranteed to get them in court. They should have to pay damages for doing the exact opposite of what is being called for. The citizens should actually see how much the legislature and the Governor actually cost the tax payers with this stunt and they should know better, or sue whatever attorneys told them this would be ok. https://www.zerohedge.com/political/ny-governor-requires-3-years-social-media-history-obtain-concealed-carry-permit Quote To that end, Hochul on Friday signed sweeping gun legislation into law that adds several layers of red tape for those who wish to obtain a gun in the state - including a new rule requiring anyone applying for a concealed carry permit to submit a three-year history of their current and inactive social media accounts. The new law will take effect on September 1, 2022.
illinois_buckeye Posted July 4, 2022 at 02:29 AM Posted July 4, 2022 at 02:29 AM Wow they need to be sued for every last dime the state and governor possess until they stop doing that. The second amendment is a God given right, yet they expect that the burden is on you to prove that you are worthy of them giving you said right? Even in court you are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty not the other way around. I hope people see exactly what they are doing and the court hits the state very hard over this. Their opinion as written didn’t seem to leave much wiggle room.
Lou Posted July 4, 2022 at 10:59 AM Posted July 4, 2022 at 10:59 AM A bit more on the new too-cute-by-half NY law. Anyone wanna guess how long it will take to get an appointment with a “licensing officer”? And three years worth of social media to verify just what exactly? Creates a permitting process for concealed carry. Applicants for a concealed-carry permit must meet in-person with a licensing officer for an interview to determine character and trustworthiness to handle a firearm. During the interview, an applicant must disclose the names of any partners, minors, or cohabitants who share a residence, they must provide at least four character references, certify completion of required training, certify that they have no convictions for disqualifying offenses, and provide a list of all social media accounts for the last three years to be reviewed by licensing authorities for verification purposes.
2A4Cook Posted July 4, 2022 at 12:03 PM Posted July 4, 2022 at 12:03 PM They want to see if you're pro-Trump. If you are, then you are "an insurrectionist," and they will deny you. I went through the Chicago Police application process in 1985. That was pretty much the process to become a police officer in a city of 3M people, minus the social media history, of course. It will take at least 5 years to get this shot down by the SCOTUS, assuming of course a case makes it that far, or that the composition of it is such at that time that it matters. They just give the SCOTUS the middle finger and do whatever they want to.
Bubbacs Posted July 4, 2022 at 03:46 PM Posted July 4, 2022 at 03:46 PM So basically what they (NY) had pre SCOTUS is what they will have post SCOTUS?

Worse post SCOTUS, now they want to curtail your 1A so you don’t say anything that Lord Hochul (Combination of Transitioned Howdy Doody, with a lil bit of Chucky thrown in) or her band of officers in the congress or the police would find offensive. Meanwhile the Highland Park POS slips through cracks.
