lilguy Posted June 3, 2022 at 01:36 AM Share Posted June 3, 2022 at 01:36 AM For years I have had to fill out a one page form from the state when purchasing a gun from an FFL. My info, the gun purchased and the reason why. Would someone please direct me to the state law that requires it and explain its rationale.
Black Flag Posted June 3, 2022 at 01:47 AM Share Posted June 3, 2022 at 01:47 AM Have any of us ever sat back with a double bourbon and a hammer and dared to read the FOID Act? The answer might be in there.

Well, it's not in the FOID Act. I was wondering if it was a rule, not a law, or some crud. Damn good question, lilguy. It is in Illinois law, in "The Criminal Code of 2012". For those unaware, "The Criminal Code of 2012" is a legislatively cleaned up revision of "The Criminal Code of 1961". Not knowing about the revision has caused some pro-gun people a lot of excess stomach acid. What you are looking for is here: https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/fulltext.asp?DocName=072000050K24-4 The rationale is that the state has the rules for legal gun ownership engraved in the "Criminal Code". Squints08 Posted June 3, 2022 at 11:09 AM Share Posted June 3, 2022 at 11:09 AM I answer “citizen” and “freedom” every time I get asked to write down my occupation and purpose for purchasing a firearm. Not sure who reads those besides my FFL but it hasn’t seemed to matter.

Tip Posted June 4, 2022 at 06:13 PM Share Posted June 4, 2022 at 06:13 PM I think the last time I was asked that I answered “Because I can” and “Because I want it” and they apparently were fine with that.
2A4Cook Posted June 4, 2022 at 06:44 PM Share Posted June 4, 2022 at 06:44 PM I've always wanted to answer, "Militiaman" and "to oppose a tyrannical government" to those questions, but I don't feel the brief giggle worth having my front door kicked in at 4:00 a.m. Those guys aren't too keen on the actual language and purpose of the Second Amendment. They prefer to believe that they are being gracious in permitting citizens to have revolvers and bolt action rifles to use in performing various acts of Fuddery. Dumak_from_arfcom Posted June 4, 2022 at 11:31 PM Share Posted June 4, 2022 at 11:31 PM On the occupation question I always answer "unemployed". I don't want some antigun activist having any extra help figuring out where I work. Those forms could easily end up in the public domain like what almost happened to the FOID info. lilguy Posted June 9, 2022 at 09:40 AM Author Share Posted June 9, 2022 at 09:40 AM When they come for your guns, they’ll find you and take them. The state form just makes it a bit easier. or so I’m told.
ealcala31 Posted June 9, 2022 at 04:01 PM Share Posted June 9, 2022 at 04:01 PM There is no PDF for dealers to use on this state form. I fill out the form for the customer on the parts that say; make, model, serial, caliber, and price. I ask the questions and fill out the form for the customer on the remaining questions; age, occupation, and purpose. I just have the customer sign-off on it and time-stamp it. And YES, I do allow snarky comments to go on the form... Age: discrimination, don't remember, etc... Occupation: male pole dancer, in-between jobs, etc... Purpose: 2nd Amendment, constitutional rights, hobby, fun, shooting cans on the farm, etc...
