I have ordered 9mm Luger from https://www.patriotsammo-arms.com/ in the past without issue, just got an order from them in June. Placed an order for some 5.56 and they said they can't ship to a private residence in Chicago. Must ship to a FFL. I told them to pound sand and they actually suspended my account. I can't log in to their website anymore.

I contacted Patriots Ammo & Arms. They clarified their shipping policy. They will ship to Chicago (zip code 606##) only when the item shows "Available In-Store".

If it shows "Available Online" only, then it ships from their partner vendors, which they may have restricted shipping policies.

For any other upland/turkey/duck hunters looking for non-tox shotgun ammo, bossshotshells ships to Chicago.  Really fast shipping and good stuff for upland/pheasant.

https://bossshotshells.com

https://bossshotshells.com/faq/

Illinois- Has to have a Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) + Driver’s License. Customer needs to take a photo of the FOID and Drivers license emailed to info@bossshotshells.com and the address needs to match on the DL, FOID and ship to.

Looks good . . . added.

I have made several purchases from the Ammunition Fairy. She ships to Chicago. http://www.ammunitionfairy.com/

You are probably one of the lucky ones.

I've contacted Ammunition Fairy.

Unfortunately, they do not ship to addresses with the City of Chicago zip code of 606##.

They follow the Lucky Gunner terms and condition for shipping ammunition to Chicago.

I've also contacted Lucky Gunner to discuss their current conditions for shipping ammunition to Chicago.

https://www.luckygunner.com/ammo-regulations-for-shipping-to-chicago

I sent them this email:

Quote
In reference to your shipping policy to Chicago [https://www.luckygunner.com/ammo-regulations-for-shipping-to-chicago], there were some amendments to legislation.

Current legislation for this statute 430 ILCS 65/13.1 [https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/documents/043000650K13.1.htm], with the new Public Act 102-538 [https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/publicacts/fulltext.asp?Name=102-0538] is effective August 20, 2021.

This references the possession and transportation of ammunition by a holder of a valid FOID card. This is a requirement by ammunition sellers that buyers will have to provide proof of a valid FOID.

In the past, Chicago Ordinance O2013-6015 [https://chicago.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=1460080&GUID=DC182460-94AC-4644-BE93-344059E10567] references Chicago Municipal Code 8-20-100(b) which read “No ammunition may be sold or otherwise transferred within the city, except through a licensed weapons dealer, or as otherwise allowed by this code.”

Currently, the Chicago Municipal Code 8-20-100 has been amended and no longer contains this language [https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/chicago/latest/chicago_il/0-0-0-2644532].
This was amended by Chicago Ordinance O2014-4271 on June 25, 2014, it removed the restriction to purchase ammunition within Municipal Code 8-20-100. [https://chicago.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=1804593&GUID=F4AA3050-1B5E-4FAA-97EA-6F58C8CB51C6].

I would very much like to hear your thoughts on this with hopes that shipping ammunition will be allowed to City of Chicago addresses (zip code 606##).

Thanks for reaching out,

Our legal team does revisit the legalities frequently, so if any changes are made, we will be sure to list them on our site.

We will look into these matters soon, but until then, we are still unable to remove the restrictions.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

I am in Northwest Cook County. I use SG Ammo and I have no problem at all.  What was the issue that got them on the lost cause list?

There is a big difference between retailers that will ship to Cook County and ship to Chicago. Many retailers absolutely refuse to ship to Chicago which is what this thread is about.

Ahh, good old Joel from Luckygunner. I wasted days of my life on that guy a few years ago.

For all I know he's running Annunition Fairy in additional to LG and BA. If so, he will give you boilerplate responses like the one you got through Luckygunner and you'll get nowhere but frustrated. I asked if he could pass me along to whoever actually owns Luckygunner or to their "legal team" he referred to and he absolutely refused. Part of me thinks this guy just owns and operates multiple websites and uses a drop shipper and the "owners" and "legal team" he refers to are nonexistent.

Don't hold your breath for them to reevaluate their rules, either. He said the same thing in 2015.

For common rounds (9mm and .223/5.56), I usually get them from Bereli.  Trusted brands, good deals, free shipping, no sales tax, and quick delivery.

https://www.bereli.com

I just called them direct.

They only ship to FFL dealers within Cook County, and do not ship direct to Chicago residential addresses.

They did say in the past, they shipped direct to Chicago. As of last week, there were some lawsuits. So currently, they are only shipping to FFL dealers for any addresses within Cook County. They couldn't give me any examples of these lawsuits.

I'll be adding Bereli to the Lost Causes

I can't believe it's been almost a year since ChangeLogg took over maintaining this list.  I know it can be a thankless job, and it's time to change that.

A huge thanks to ChangeLogg for continuing this tradition, and to McCroskey for starting it so many years ago.  It's an invaluable resource.  Your hard work is greatly appreciated!

Yes, thanks indeed! I'm sure the list has been a very valuable resource to many of us trapped in Chicago.

www.shawarms.com

No tax, $14.99 flat rate shipping, one box or a pallet. At checkout, there is a place to upload FOID image (no state ID is needed, seemingly). I got into a habit to upload eCard snapped just before I submit the order.

Note: I am outside Chicago but in Cook. My friends in the city are ordering constantly with no issues.

The person I talked to seemed a little uncertain of their policy.

Please let me know if anyone orders from them again and was able to receive shipment to zip code starting with "606 . ." .

I'll be more than happy to move them under the positive list.

Would like to add Defender Ammunition to the list, who appears to be an ammunition manufacturer. They initially canceled my order because my FOID and my DL did not match. I sent an email and cited the statute that says you can ship to either address on the FOID. I also referenced that the Chicago municipal code no longer prohibits ammunition sales, and that most sellers who won't ship here are using outdated and/or incorrect information. I didn't get a response at first, but I called and briefly chatted with someone there who was very nice and promised to look into it and refer it to their legal team. Happy to provide a screenshot of the exchange if that's necessary for this thread.

A few days later I get a friendly email thanking me for the information and noting a change in shipping policy. Top notch customer service here!

P.S. At the time of posting, I ordered .357 magnum at approximately 55cpr and 44mag at approximately 75cpr, factoring in shipping. These are some of the lowest prices on this calibers that I know of. I can't vouch for the quality of the ammunition but the website reviews are good and they are constantly sold out.

I have just contacted Defender Ammunition. They were more than receptive. They had questions regarding Chicago shipping laws, and we had a short positive email and phone exchange.

I'll be adding Defender Ammunition to the list.

For reference, I make initial contact with vendors to check if they are receptive.

I would then send them the following information:

Below is information regarding legislation pertaining to shipping ammunition to a City of Chicago address (zip code 606##).

In 2013, the City of Chicago Ordinance O2013-6015 was passed. [https://chicago.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=1460080&GUID=DC182460-94AC-4644-BE93-344059E10567] references Chicago Municipal Code 8-20-100(b) which read “No ammunition may be sold or otherwise transferred within the city, except through a licensed weapons dealer, or as otherwise allowed by this code.”

After only 1 year in 2014, the Chicago Municipal Code 8-20-100 was amended and no longer contains this language.

This was amended by Chicago Ordinance O2014-4271 on June 25, 2014, it removed the restriction to purchase ammunition within Municipal Code 8-20-100. [https://chicago.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=1804593&GUID=F4AA3050-1B5E-4FAA-97EA-6F58C8CB51C6].

Current Chicago Municipal Code 8-20-100 can be referenced here:

Please let me know if you feel there should be any improvements.

I wanted to add in here, I was able to order from Freedom Munitions,

https://www.freedommunitions.com

I am in McHenry and ordered 200 rounds of .308, and 100 rounds of .45 for about $210 bux

their Illinois policy is as follows, it doesn’t mention counties, and I did receive my order. Not sure if this is on the list somewhere already, but thought I would toss it in here, feel free to delete if they are a NO to chi town.

Instructions for Illinois Ammunition Sales:

  • FOID cards AND State photo ID should be uploaded during or before placing your order online. You may also submit by email – support@freedommunitions.com (IMPORTANT: You must enter your order number in the email subject line) It is your responsibility to follow up with Freedom Munitions to make sure we have received your information.
  • These MUST be current, valid, & completely legible.
  • Orders will be held for 10 days and then cancelled if proper documents are not submitted to and received by Freedom Munitions.
  • Ammo can only be shipped to an address on one of those two documents.
  • FFL Dealers must provide a copy of their FFL to support@freedommunitions.com to be added to the FFL Finder.
  • Check for other Local & State laws before ordering. It is your responsibility to know your state laws.

Careful with Freedom, they have a history of quality control issues.
