mauserme Posted February 20, 2022 at 09:11 PM Share Posted February 20, 2022 at 09:11 PM Call to Action! Phone Calls Needed! On April 30, 2015, Simon Solomon did what he was wont to do almost every day after work. He stopped to fish at the Skokie lagoons. Out of concern for his safety he was armed in an area Cook County argues he should not have been. No, he was not committing any acts of violence. No, he was not threatening anyone or anything but a few catfish. No, he did nothing to draw the attention of the Forest Preserve Police who arrested him except to stay a few minutes past sunset. His case found its way to the US District Court, which ruled that the prohibition on carry within all areas of the Cook County Forest Preserves is unconstitutionally broad. The state was given until 3/15/2022, to bring this section of law into compliance with the Constitution if it chooses to try. In a response that could be termed “too cute by half”, Representative Stoneback introduced HB4296 Concealed Carry – Forest Preserve, another of her continued attempts to deny folks their rights. This bill proposes to prohibit legal carry within almost all areas commonly used by Forest Preserve patrons. During a 2/17/2022, committee hearing on this bill, Ms. Stoneback was pressed for an explanation of how Mr. Solomon's infraction implies a greater need for gun control. Revealing her frustration trying to create logic where none can be found, she responded in an unprofessionally raised voice, “HE BROKE THE RULES!”. Yes he broke the rules. He stayed beyond sunset. Not a single person was injured. Ms. Stoneback and Cook County argue that they are different than the other 101 counties in Illinois, those other counties that do not completely prohibit carry in their preserves. Yes, they are different, but not in the way they believe. The other 101 Illinois counties respect the rights of their residents and visitors. The other 101 Illinois Counties respect your right to defend yourself and your family. The other 101 Illinois Counties respect you, and therein lies the difference. Cook County, supported by the legislators named below, do not respect YOU! They do not trust that YOU, the folks who go through background checks to own a firearm, the folks who go through background checks and hours of training to carry a firearm, the folks who elect them to protect our rights, they do not trust that YOU will not go on a deranged killing spree the moment YOU set foot on Cook County Forest Preserve property. What will happen if this section of the Concealed Carry Act is left unchanged? In one sense, nothing much. Location and manner of carry within Cook County Forest Preserves will still be highly regulated, as it is in the other 101 counties. In another sense, a great deal will happen. In the second sense residents of, and visitors to Cook County will find a greater degree of equality with the rest of the state. This would be an important change because we cannot truly be equal unless we are all equal under the same law. Please take a moment to contact the following committee members who voted to allow this bill a chance to become law. Ask them why they don't trust YOU. Ask them why they don't respect YOU. Ask them why folks in the rest of the state have more rights than those in Cook County. Ask them why YOU should continue to vote for them if they won't respect your rights. And don't let them tell you it isn't YOU they are worried about, because it is YOU that will be denied your rights just as Mr. Solomon was. That’s were I was about to go? Someone is being too nice. In my opinion, citizens should investigate every campaign donation, expense, add, action, etc for ANY RULE BREAKING, and if anything is discovered they should report it to the proper authority. Every elected official office expense, spending, etc should be investigated by as many citizens as possible for any “Rule Breaking” that may have occurred and filed with the proper authority. Maybe FOIA who are they meeting with, when ,where, and what is being discussed, are there any “FAVORS” being exchanged for donations directly, indirectly and or going to a particular party that MAY BE a RULE V I O L A T I O N ! Unless YOu brEAK THE RULES!
