Call to Action! Witness Slips Needed!

Last month we spoke of HB5474 Firearm Owners & Concealed Carry, Representative Hoffman's attempt to mire FOID card applicants in the bureaucratic quicksand that is the Licensing Review Board. That board is the place Concealed Carry License applications go to die a slow, sinking death.

We see it all the time.

At the Federal level are calls to end the NICS check default “approve” because, by ignoring the desire to enjoy one's rights, they can deny them indefinitely. In Illinois, such delays are baked into the system.

FOID card issuance routinely takes longer than allowed by law. Far longer.

Concealed Carry applicants are “Darted”, a device built into the process allowing Sheriff Dart and others to delay and deny the free exercise of our rights, often on nothing more than a hunch.

Mr. Hoffman's attempt to merge the not yet implemented FOID review board with the already proven delinquent Concealed Carry Review Board is simply an effort to dismiss folks seeking their FOID cards, to dump them into an already overburdened process and bury their efforts to receive their rights from a state that thinks we have none.. It can only lead to a massive bottleneck of process for both FOIDs and CCLs…Which is most likely by design.

Further compounding this problem is the fact that the politically appointed FOID board has no defined level of scrutiny. It is left up to the Governor’s appointed cronies to decide if a person gets their FOID.

This denial of rights by inaction must end!

Martin Luther King Jr. has been quoted as saying, “a right delayed is a right denied.” Decades later his statement is no more poignant than during this month of February, 2022. Join us in filing witness slips opposing HB5474.

During a 4/22/2021, House Judiciary – Criminal Committee hearing, it was pointed out that requiring registration of private sales in Chicago, a city having no FFL's to effect such registration, is a “Jim Crow” law. The committee Chair, Representative Slaughter, was quick to put an end to talk of that reality, apparently embarrassed by his own complicity.

Though it became law by another of Representative Hoffman's and Senator Koehler's bills, that law is on the books. It will deny many Chicago residents the opportunity to purchase a means of self defense in a city where self defense is often sorely needed.

New registration schemes have also surfaced, as well as some bans:

HB3222 Assault Weapon Registry, a precursor to confiscation,

HB3779 Firearms – Microstamping, a form of registering ammunition to the owner,

HB4055 Untraceable Firearms and HB4757 Ghost Guns, bills leading to further registration of firearms,

HB4156 Firearm Liability, a bill designed to close gun stores through civil action, thereby making both traditional and private, registered transfers impossible,

HB5535 Firearm Violations requiring 8 hours of training to own a handgun, including in Chicago where training is unavailable, and fingerprints registering the handgun purchaser as if they are a criminal.

Whether registries are designed to prevent legal sales, keep track of guns for future confiscations, or cause interminable delays, all must be opposed!

In his 2/10/2022, bulletin ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson mused about those who wish to see Wayne LaPierre replaced as NRA head. One has to wonder if he really spoke of Wayne or, allegorically, referred to his own descent into the world of gun control after the ISRA’s disastrous support of the anti-gun “FOID Modernization Law”.

Join us, IllinoisCarry, a group that reliably defends your right to keep and bear arms. A group that still understands the meaning of “shall not be infringed”. A group that will stand by that principle for all.

Looks like there is one guy who got our Call To Action and filed PROPONENT slips for every one.

Once upon a time when I wrote email alerts for an Illinois organization,
I asked the ILGA webmasters for the ability to add more params to the constructed URL for a witness slip,
so that opponent or proponent could be filled in by the URL, along with "notice of appearance only."

They never answered me back, AFAIK.
I even mentioned that such a move would not benefit one side or another, but all participants.

Oh well.
