The California city of San Jose is set to become the first in the United States to enforce an ordinance requiring most gun owners to pay a fee and carry liability insurance.

Be interesting to watch the lawsuits with this one and how the courts respond. I wonder when they will be requiring the same for voting?

The city leaders stated that this bill will help prevent suicides, domestic violence and negligent use of a firearm; I didn't realize an insurance policy was capable of so much.

They later stated that the fees would go towards damages and bills from shootings. How many people are shot by legal, licensed gun owners vs felons?

Huh?

Derp.

Either San Jose is that stupid or they just believe their constituents are that stupid.

...

In San Jose, only people who can't afford insurance commit suicide, domestic violence, or negligent discharge of a firearm.

Alternatively, only people who can afford insurance will now be granted the legal privilege of suicide, domestic violence, or negligent discharge of a firearm.

Maybe both.

As expected the new law is being challenged in court.

A firearms rights group has sued the California city of San Jose over a proposal that would require many of the city’s gun owners to carry liability insurance for accidents and negligence — which would be a first in the nation — as well as pay a new annual fee.

“The city council preliminarily approved the proposed ordinance on Tuesday. The Colorado-based National Association for Gun Rights filed the suit the same day, asking the US District Court in San Jose to prevent the city from enforcing the proposed ordinance on numerous constitutional grounds, including alleging infringements on the Second Amendment.”

Sarcasm alert/ But it’s only 0.50 a year and it keeps guns out of people hands that shouldn’t have them. Have they checked the Chitcago gun violence lately?

Just look at how successful all the Uber-strict anti-gun laws have been.
