cybermgk Posted January 6, 2022 at 02:50 PM Share Posted January 6, 2022 at 02:50 PM How long is it good for? I.E. my CCL is up last part of the year. If I take the course, how long is it 'valid' for? Does it's use for renewal expire? I.E. do I have to take it within X amount of time before renewing my license
Euler Posted January 6, 2022 at 08:29 PM Share Posted January 6, 2022 at 08:29 PM I don't believe any courses expire, but they are single use only. To get the most value out of the class, though, it's worth taking the class just before applying.

Sidartha Posted January 8, 2022 at 06:29 AM Share Posted January 8, 2022 at 06:29 AM What I was told is that the class is good up to the day your CCL expires. If you haven't sent in the renewal before your old CCL expires then you have to start over as if you are applying for the first time and take the full 16 hour class again. soundguy Posted January 8, 2022 at 09:41 AM Share Posted January 8, 2022 at 09:41 AM Kind of like what Sidartha wrote. The 3 hour renewal course doesn't expire but is useless if your CCL expires. If you fail to submit your CCL renewal application before your CCL expires, you are required to take the full course, as if you are applying for the first time. captdan Posted January 14, 2022 at 09:54 PM Share Posted January 14, 2022 at 09:54 PM (edited) I believe this addresses the question more accurately. See Below Edited January 14, 2022 at 09:54 PM by captdan incomplete.
captdan Posted January 14, 2022 at 09:57 PM Share Posted January 14, 2022 at 09:57 PM Attention: CCL and FOID card holders seeking renewal. Changes to the FOID and FCCL Acts that took effect January 1, 2022, and rules adopted implementing these changes, require FOID and FCCL cardholders to submit renewal applications prior to the expiration of their card to remain valid. Additionally, while the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation in response to the COVID 19 pandemic remains in effect, if a cardholder submits a renewal application after the expiration date of the card, their expired card will be reset to valid while the application is processed so long as the FOID Card is not subject to revocation pursuant to the provisions of Section 8 or Section 8.2 of the FOID Act or the FCCL is not subject to revocation pursuant to the provisions of Section 70 of the FCCL Act. The ISP Firearms Services Bureau encourages FOID cardholders and CCL holders to keep a copy of their confirmation from their submitted renewal application as additional verification of compliance. Note: After expiration portion. One would only have to submit renewal and refresher course cert. as I have been told numerous times by ISP. AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted February 2, 2022 at 01:24 PM Share Posted February 2, 2022 at 01:24 PM Even with the silly covid extensions, in my opinion it is still best practice to take the class and apply for renewal before you expire. You could apply for renewal without taking a renewal class, but then will have 18 months after the disaster declaration expires to upload the certificate. 3 things come to mind. Will you know when the disaster expires? With your busy life will you remember to take the class and upload the certificate? Do you really trust the state police to send a reminder to upload your certificate? take the class, upload the certificate. Wait a year or two for your new license.
