On August 20, Bonta filed for an extension of the time to respond to the petition, from September 18 to October 20.

I don't understand all these extensions being granted! The court gives a date to get your stuff in by and if you don't tough!! This is just their way of delaying the case, costing people more money for lawyers and while still having the law enforced. IF the court would issue a stay so the law can NOT be enforced while the court case is being put through the system, then the state would have some incentive to get the work done on time. A right delayed is still a right denied.

On August 21, the Court granted the extension to file a response to October 20.

At the US Supreme Court, Duncan asked for two extensions to file the petition. Now it's the state's turn to respond. It's a little bizarre how quickly it asked for an extension. Without the extension, it still wouldn't have been due until September 18.

On 12/8, this case was distributed for conference for Friday December 12.  That's the last conference day for 2025.  If it's rescheduled again, the first conference day in 2026 is Friday January 9.
