Glockman1997 Posted July 4, 2021 at 05:58 PM Share Posted July 4, 2021 at 05:58 PM Hello all I was wondering where the law stands on carrying an ar pistol with a pistol brace in your vehicle.Ive heard plenty of rumors About pistol ammo being the only ammo you can carry . Ive not seen anywhere on isp or online that explains this issue. I just want to be 100% Certain before I bring out my micro Draco to play 🥳Thanks
Euler Posted July 4, 2021 at 06:33 PM Share Posted July 4, 2021 at 06:33 PM Some municipalities consider AR/AK pistols to be "assault weapons," so the cops in those municipalities will confiscate them. Theoretically you could sue to get them back. Otherwise, a pistol is a pistol. Caliber is irrelevant.
Bubbacs Posted July 4, 2021 at 07:05 PM Share Posted July 4, 2021 at 07:05 PM I would guess that if the firearm in question is listed as a handgun/pistol then the ammo used in it would be good to carry also.Never heard any rules about carrying “pistol” only ammo! coz Posted July 4, 2021 at 11:17 PM Share Posted July 4, 2021 at 11:17 PM I carry one in my trunk (locked, not loaded) with a few spare mags, a security vest, and a sign to throw in the window that says, "Good guy in a security vest ahead." GTX63 Posted July 5, 2021 at 01:00 PM Share Posted July 5, 2021 at 01:00 PM You would have to consider how up the typical Illinois law enforcement officer is on gun laws and AR pistol braces, and how much you are willing to spend so a judge can define it for him, and maybe you. RandyP Posted July 5, 2021 at 02:18 PM Share Posted July 5, 2021 at 02:18 PM My question.....why?The real question is ... why not ? IMHO long guns are a bit awkward to use when seated in a car? And AR pistols are still rather bulky things. I would also be remiss if I didn't mention how flippin' L.O.U.D. my AR pistol is outdoors, let alone inside a vehicle. But yes, I agree a person has the 'right' to carry whatever they want that is still classed as a pistol, but many jurisdictions are not AR friendly. Mr Twain Posted July 20, 2021 at 08:33 PM Share Posted July 20, 2021 at 08:33 PM Unfortunately a lot of jurisdictions around here would see the carrying of an AR pistol as someone looking for a fight, not trying to avoid one. But if you can do it legally and it makes you feel good, who am I to say no? I carry a Ruger Vaquero in 40S&W as my defense.

ealcala31 Posted July 21, 2021 at 01:22 PM Share Posted July 21, 2021 at 01:22 PM I have thrown my Mossberg 930 and/or my Benelli Supernova in my trunk with the side saddle fully loaded. Technically, since there's nothing in the mag tube, I'm within the law. We'll see how that goes when I eventually get pulled over.
