..."A group of Democratic lawmakers in the House and the Senate on Wednesday introduced gun control legislation that would ban the sale, manufacturing, transfer, possession or importation of magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds.

The bill comes after President Biden last week called on Congress to ban "assault weapons" and "high-capacity" magazines.

Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey and Reps. Diana DeGette of Colorado, Ted Deutch of Florida, and Dina Titus of Nevada, rolled out the legislation Wednesday, known as the Keep Americans Safe Act.

Magazines holding more than 10 rounds were banned for 10 years under the Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994. "We cannot clearly credit the ban with any of the nation's recent drop in gun violence," the Department of Justice-funded study concluded in 2004. "Should it be renewed, the ban's effects on gun violence are likely to be small at best and perhaps too small for reliable measurement."

The legislation would also authorize a "high-capacity" magazine buyback program; require any "high-capacity" magazines manufactured after the bill is enacted to have a "conspicuous serial number" and date of manufacture printed on it, so that it can be identified by law enforcement; and ensure law enforcement agencies have the authority to "seize and destroy high-capacity magazines possessed illegally."

The bill would also prevent coupled or joined magazines.

The lawmakers said it would not ban the continued possession of any magazine that someone currently possesses, and noted that owners of such devices "would be allowed to keep the high-capacity magazines they already have," but would not be allowed to transfer or sell them to anyone.

The lawmakers also noted that while the sale of newly manufactured magazines holding more than 10 rounds would generally be banned under the bill, there are provisions included that allow exceptions for certain current and former law enforcement personnel and for certain "authorized testing and experimentation."

"There's no reason why anyone, other than military, needs a gun magazine that holds more than 10 rounds," DeGette said. "It's past time for Congress to act on common-sense gun safety measures such as this. Banning the sale of high-capacity magazines in this country will save lives and Congress needs to act on this legislation immediately." "...

Once again a cut out that allows certain 9-5ers to have you more rights over everyone else!

It's almost as if their is no Equal Protection Clause in our Constitution!

So they clearly recognize the law would do nothing to curb the violence yet push forward with it.

<whiney voice now on>

But we have to do SOMETHING, even if it’s useless.

Remember, these are REPRESENTATIVES, they have to be re-elected every two years. Challenge them, primary them, be their worst nightmare.

Doesn't do much good when the majority of the people they represent agree with them.

It also doesn't do much good when districts are remapped to give one party an advantage over the other.

To forestall getting jumped on for that, yes, gerrymandering is a problem when it favors the GOP, too.

Much like the arbitrary $15 minimum wage, how exactly and who exactly decided that 10 rounds are safe while 11 rounds are for mass murderers?

10 is a nice, even number, and there are 10-round magazines available for a lot of semi-auto firearms. I'm not saying it's right, but that's likely the thinking behind it.

Besides, the whole point of an arbitrary restriction like that is for them to be able to say that the restriction didn't work, therefore an even tighter restriction is necessary.

Did the chicken or egg come first?

A vast majority of those available 10 round magazines are because of laws limiting magazines to 10 rounds in the first place and the gun manufactures not wanting to miss out on an entire market. 10 round limited magazines were almost entirely a product of the law to limit magazines to 10 rounds. In fact if you look at the history of magazine fed firearms even the ones that pre-date the 2nd and well pre-date any laws on magazine limits, 10 wasn't common at all many firearms exceeded 10.

Ask yourself this: WHY are there 10 round magazines available for most firearms?

Answer: because 10 rounds is the arbitrary limit CA set for their first mag ban back in the 80s

“AMERICAN HORROR STORY Map reveals where 54 mass shootings erupted over past MONTH as CNN host says there’s an ‘active shooter situation in US’”

With headlines like this we are gonna be busy forever. I have never been one of those who felt the courts would eventually ride to our rescue. Court decisions can mirror the changes in society overtime. Its our ability to out politic the antis that has kept us ahead of the game. It has to continue.

The idiocracy of politicians is abound, its 2021, not only can you make a fully functional firearm on your kitchen table, even the barrel with affordable hand and metal working tools, with 3D printers you can print magazines and the rest of the firearm all day long, anyone that believes a prohibition on these items will change anything is to be blunt an idiot beyond an idiot and must also be a 1920s prohibition denier!

I was recently looking at some 3D printable gun files (there are some neat looking designs out there based on existing firearms) the 30 round AR magazine files even came with a wire bending jig file to print and bend your own spring from piano wire! A total solution with a give or take $200 machine, a machine that would pay for itself in no time if a 'criminal' was to start making and selling bootleg magazines, just sayin'
