Phone Calls & Witness Slips Needed

This week brings new gun control filed by unusual legislators.

House Amendment 1 to HB745, filed by Representative Hoffman, and its companion legislation SB2889, filed by Senator Koehler, should come as no surprise. Both offer Illinois gun owners the opportunity to solve the state's FOID problem for it, by voluntarily supplying fingerprints with our FOID card applications, by charging us a fee to run their background check, and by establishing a review board similar to the Concealed Carry Licensing Review Board which has been the source of interminable problems for license applicants. This is done as window dressing, of course, to give the oxymoronic impression of letting us exercise our rights in a timely manner if we are only willing to pay more and wait longer.

No, it isn't surprising that Senator Koehler and Representative Hoffman sponsored these measures. It is surprising that Senator Crowe, a person many of her Madison County constituents thought to be on the side of gun rights, has signed on as the only current co-sponsor of the Senate bill. If you have a moment, especially if you're in her neck of the woods, give her a call to ask why she turned against you. Her district office phone number is 618-251-9840.

While those two bills are not posted to committees at this time, several others are.

HB3143 Use Tax – Firearms, imposes a surcharge on the purchase of firearms. Once again, the very people who claim to represent the down trodden in Illinois hope to financially deny them their rights.

HB3245 Firearm Owners ID – Omnibus is Representative Willis' perennial assault on our rights. Two witness slips are needed for this bill, for hearings on 3/23/2021 and 3/26/2021.

HB3483 Firearms Restraining Order along with its House Amendment 1 seeks to weaponize against gun owners the system intended to protect those facing a real threat. Four witness slips are needed for this bill, on both the bill as filed and HA1, for 3/23/2021 and 3/26/2021 hearings.

Of course when one looks hard enough there is always a glimmer of hope. One such glimmer comes in the form of HB638 State Police Fund Lockbox, a bill intending to keep Illinois State Police funds right where they belong.

You state:

But, you only had 2 links above.

I was torn between explaining that more and not getting too wordy.

When you click the link to file on each date, that bill will have a drop down in Section III allowing you to choose the original bill or the amendment. You should do both for each date.

All done, but I can't figure out how to track the slips for the amendments.

Again, was torn about making it too complicated. There are even more links for checking the amendments:

HB3483 HCA1 3/23/2021

HB3483 HCA1 3/26/2021

ETA There have been a few alerts in the past that had a more detailed forum version compared to the email. In the future we may consider that for situations like this.

Done, and sent to friends. Trying to encourage a new person each time, and then trying to convince them to get just one friend or family member to do the same.

I had a buddy say he filled it out one night, so I went and checked. He had not yet done it so I jokingly called him out, good friend so no harm here....he quickly went in and signed the slips and does it everytime now knowing I might check and call him on it if he bluffs! Told him we cannot get lazy!

Be safe everyone!
