Rmac702 Posted February 12, 2021 at 11:31 PM Share Posted February 12, 2021 at 11:31 PM CZ has made quality handguns for decades, and the Colt acquisition will enhance both companies IMO.

I agree. I'm not aware of CZ having any revolvers in their line up so this seems like a natural acquisition.

2A4Cook Posted February 13, 2021 at 01:59 AM Share Posted February 13, 2021 at 01:59 AM What is CZ looking for? To expand military contracts to rifles? I don't see the fit.

The only real place the two compete is Colt with Dan Wesson in the 1911 market, and to a very limited degree in the revolver market. The type of "competitor" you're referring to would be Sig Sauer. I doubt they look at the firearms market as an "overall" for share; they are looking to their segments, which is why I thought "maybe" Colt's AR production and patents, expanding into a new segment and perhaps gaining an edge for government rifle contracts as they have for service pistols. NakPPI Posted February 13, 2021 at 03:21 PM Share Posted February 13, 2021 at 03:21 PM I think it's pretty clear that CZ wanted Colts manufacturing facilities more than anything else.
Flynn Posted February 15, 2021 at 03:24 AM Share Posted February 15, 2021 at 03:24 AM What is CZ looking for? To expand military contracts to rifles? I don't see the fit. I'm guessing Colt's Patent library played a big part, as well as their US manufacturing presense that can almost certainly help with government contracts worldwide. Also no need to deal with importation drama when you have the facilities to manufacture your product domestically inside the US.

I do a lot of logistics work for the government and even a minor assembly process taking place in the USA will open up a lot more contract work opportunities for CZ. noreaster Posted March 8, 2021 at 12:55 PM Share Posted March 8, 2021 at 12:55 PM As others have mentioned, it gives them a domestic footprint. Patents expire after 17 years I think so unless they have recent, meaningful patents, other reasons are more likely.
RandyP Posted March 8, 2021 at 03:16 PM Share Posted March 8, 2021 at 03:16 PM I reckon if Jaguar auto is now owned by Tata in Mumbai, India and I STILL would love to be able to own one, Colt being owned CZ in Uhersky Brod isn't much of a big deal? And I DO still really like my CZ75 SP-01 Tactical. Best shooting 9mm I own.
