Tim85 Posted December 24, 2020 at 02:18 AM Posted December 24, 2020 at 02:18 AM I’m scared to know what this implies
Euler Posted December 24, 2020 at 03:19 AM Posted December 24, 2020 at 03:19 AM It means they're no longer seeking public comment.
markthesignguy Posted December 24, 2020 at 04:07 AM Posted December 24, 2020 at 04:07 AM Probably got hammered by G.O.A. commenters, using prepared letter through their email alert..
Flynn Posted December 24, 2020 at 05:24 AM Posted December 24, 2020 at 05:24 AM Personally I consider the comments about as useless as the witness slips in IL, it's just a way to allow the public to vent but doesn't actually have any real effect on the final decission, especially in the Internet age where form e-submissions are made by the 1000s.
Raw Power Posted December 24, 2020 at 07:36 AM Posted December 24, 2020 at 07:36 AM It means they're no longer seeking public comment.Let them eat cake.
springfield shooter Posted December 24, 2020 at 01:12 PM Posted December 24, 2020 at 01:12 PM Anyone remember when they were talking about banning 5.56 green tips? They backed away from that after being swamped with comments.
NakPPI Posted December 24, 2020 at 01:32 PM Posted December 24, 2020 at 01:32 PM Much safer to withdraw something like this and avoid the lawsuits. If the ATF were to go forward on a questionable "regulation" and lose a lawsuit, it would expand 2A case law. You're not thinking fourth dimensionally.
IH8IL Posted December 24, 2020 at 03:52 PM Posted December 24, 2020 at 03:52 PM Personally I consider the comments about as useless as the witness slips in IL, it's just a way to allow the public to vent but doesn't actually have any real effect on the final decission, especially in the Internet age where form e-submissions are made by the 1000s.They tried to ban green tip once and got overwhelmed with comments. They probably figured it would go to court and they would lose.
seanc Posted December 24, 2020 at 04:25 PM Posted December 24, 2020 at 04:25 PM McConnell and around 80 congresscritters also contacted ATF. That got their attention. Us leaving comments and contacting our representatives did have an effect with our representatives. Well, not IL representatives, but thank God the Red state reps listened and spoke up for us.
Raw Power Posted December 24, 2020 at 04:40 PM Posted December 24, 2020 at 04:40 PM Just because they stopped taking comments doesn't mean that they're not banning pistol braces. It just means that they're not going to give us an opportunity to voice our opinions.
rmart Posted December 24, 2020 at 05:06 PM Posted December 24, 2020 at 05:06 PM Or, they'll throw us this bone to get compliance with a ban on 80%s
Raw Power Posted December 24, 2020 at 05:30 PM Posted December 24, 2020 at 05:30 PM Or, they'll throw us this bone to get compliance with a ban on 80%sWe need to stop giving away our rights for free. Taking two rights and then saying "oh I'll only take one instead, it's a win for you, right?!?" is a tactic that needs to be called out for what it is... if they want to ban 80%s, then they need to take suppressors and SBRs off the GCA.
rmart Posted December 24, 2020 at 05:56 PM Posted December 24, 2020 at 05:56 PM And remove the restrictions in Illinois. I remember a story that describes negotiating with leftists thusly: Citizen: walks down the street minding their own business, thinking their own thoughts, making their own plans when SUDDENLY: an armed robber jumps out of the alley and says:Armed Robber: "Gimme your dough"C: "Please don't hurt me"AR: "Gimme your dough and nobody gets hurt"C: "No, I need this money for my family and children"AR: "Then gimme half of your dough"C: "OK, that seems fair, I just don't want to get hurt"The AR and the C each go their separate ways. The citizen a little poorer but has his life, the armed robber a little richer and looking for their next victim. Who knows, if he has to he can always hit this one up for more another time. Now, replace the AR with any leftist activist, government official, politician, law enforcement representative, etc. Tell me what's the difference? One does it legally, the other illegally, but the outcome is the same.

Yor forgot the rest of the story, before the day is over this has played out multiple times, down to 50% after the first encounter, down to 25% after the second encounter, down to 12.5% the third time, by the forth time they have only 6.25% and by the fifth time they are down to 3.13%, this is how gun control compromise works, such a deal.
lockman Posted December 24, 2020 at 09:59 PM Posted December 24, 2020 at 09:59 PM 75% lowers ok. Aluminum billets ok? CNC machines ok? Drill press, rotor, hand file ok? No compromise. We must take back ground already ceded away. GCA & NFA a good start.
Ranger Posted December 28, 2020 at 10:41 PM Posted December 28, 2020 at 10:41 PM FWIW: At one time, for some bills, the witness slips have made a difference. Not so much on many though... :-( My first reaction to this was mixed. Did the ATF withdraw to ensure it is less of an issue in the Georgia Senate elections? Did the ATF withdraw because Biden's group will push something even more severe?
F12Mahon Posted December 29, 2020 at 05:57 AM Posted December 29, 2020 at 05:57 AM Per youtuber Guns & Gadgets, the ability to comment is still up. I checked and he is right. That raises the question if it is really withdrawn. Eugene
wolfcreek Posted December 31, 2020 at 12:07 AM Posted December 31, 2020 at 12:07 AM Ive read on several sites. That the issue has been dropped, but that would seem almost to good to be true.Time will tell

Ranger Posted January 2, 2021 at 03:18 PM Posted January 2, 2021 at 03:18 PM My fear is that "Upon further consultation with the Department of Justice and the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, ATF is withdrawing, pending further Department of Justice review, the notice and request for comments entitled “Objective Factors for Classifying Weapons with `Stabilizing Braces',” that was published on December 18, 2020." translates to Trump's appointee did not approve so we'll have to wait until Biden's does.

Talonap Posted January 2, 2021 at 08:00 PM Posted January 2, 2021 at 08:00 PM Looks to me, like they only withdrew the request for comments.
richp Posted January 2, 2021 at 09:01 PM Posted January 2, 2021 at 09:01 PM This may allow them to start a new comment period later, with more favorable time parameters and (for antis) political climate.
