Foid Renewal Wait Time

Recommended Posts

How long does it take to actually get the card in the mail? I applied on June 2, and it said it went active on July 9, but I've not yet received the card. Hopefully in the next week as I'm ready to shop. I do notice I went to check my status again and the site appears to be down?

Site is back up. Id say most people see card in a couple of weeks but the ISP iirc says to give it up to 4

I created an account because I'm looking for some answers. Instead of starting a new thread I figured I would just comment on this one I seen.

How long does it take for them to process an address change with the foid card? It's been over 4 months and I'm still under review. Can't get ahold of anybody whatsoever in any way shape or form. Has anybody been waiting longer than me? I can't believe this...

Thanks for the fast replies and thanks for having me on board! So I could possibly be waiting another two months, if not longer? This is absolutely ridiculous. Makes me want to pack up and move, among other things making me feel that way. I can't do anything right now and I'm not happy about it since I was expecting maybe 60 day wait at most and in my mind I was thinking that was generous and I would receive it sooner than that, since it was supposed to be a simple address change. I can't even buy ammo at this time.

My foid has/had been active since 2015 (not counting this address change situation) and back then I remember getting it in exactly 4 weeks to the day (28 days) from the time I first applied and they took my payment to the time it was issued and in my hand (I also confirmed that on their website). It expires in 2025 and I hope things are sorted out by then.

I think I'll try first thing in the morning Monday and just do that daily until I get through. All the times I called have been mid afternoon since I'm at work during the week but Im going to have to risk making the call at work, this is far too long of a wait and I have not recived any response via email. Thanks

Just to update. Applied June 2, active July 9, card in hand 7/20/20. But as I said the morning of July 9, I called about 3 minutes before 8:30 and was probably one of the first people in line when they opened. By the end of that day the card showed active. Now time to shop and then go for ccl. I did hear of 1 person who's been waiting since September.

Can I ask what phone tree options, approximately, you followed in order to be able to speak to someone? They don't make it easy to figure out how you're supposed to speak to a real person.

At the time I was sitting at "under review". So I'm guessing that since the guy pulled my info maybe they just processed it since they would have to at some point. I heard on the radio that around that time they had 42,000 apps in 2 weeks. I pretty much played dumb and was like the website said 30 days and I've never owned a gun in Illinois before, which I haven't. Maybe the officer took pity on me lol.

My personal feeling is that the foid cards should be ruled unconstitutional. But with recent unrest.... I guess it's the world we live in now. I think what got to me was when there were protests in our town of about 10,000 down state. Thankfully it was peaceful, but I'd also seen on the news where people in nyc and other places were being attacked.

I hope that I would never have to use a gun on another human being. As I'm a peaceful person. If I can avoid that level of conflict I will. But the way the world is today.....

Just sharing my experience so far trying to obtain a new FOID. Submitted 5/3/2020 (over 80 days!) and just today the CSS class has gone to Approved, but the text still says Under Review. Hoping to receive my card soon, but not sure it's going to be much use with shortages everywhere. Was going to call Monday, but seems I may not have to at this point.

Once card gets printed and on its way to being sorted, batched, and sent to USPS you will see it go to ACTIVE...soon.

Just wondering if they are working Saturdays.

I did check it at one point on Friday and it was not in this status, but it's possible they did it late Friday and I just happened to check today.

In my experience, my card went active late afternoon of July 9. I'd called pretty much as soon as they opened that day and must have been one of the first callers. But it went from under review to active somewhere before 6 or 6:30.

We tried looking for a pattern on the days FOIDs and CCLs got printed but did not find anything conclusive. Iirc, they only had one printer at the time. With the increased application volumes, the backlog to be printed probably gets larger, faster. Maybe they could have purchased another printer and supplies with buying the $750k phone system and the swept $30M or so from the last 5 years.

So you called early am on July 9th and you card went active that same day?

This after being applied for on June 2nd

Just over a 30 day window!

I’d say you stumbled onto the way to get a FOID in this state in the closest to 30 days ever!

I thread should be made of this procedure for future citizens to read as they struggle with the FOID issues.

And be sure to pin it at the top!

When I called, I used the option that I was calling about a foid, pretended not to know the app number and I think it was option 3 to talk to someone. When I talked to someone, I played dumb and said that the website said 30 days and that I was just checking because I'd never owned a gun in Illinois before. But I was being truthful as I had not owned a gun in this state before.

I am going with that I was blessed to get it and that the officer probably just processed it since my file was pulled since they'd have to do it at some point anyway.

How are you guys actually talking to a person? I was denied and put in an appeal, but no one answers email to get info on it's status and when I call it just says to send an email then hangs up.

Afternoon Group,

I hope everyone is staying Safe & Healthy! Just a quick update for all those that are currently waiting for their FOID &/or CCL applications...

Don't loose faith! Continue checking the status, calling state and local Reps, calling ISP, and emailing whomever you can.

If you ask me, the trick is staying both calm and understanding with whomever you're reaching out to. Good luck everyone!

Applied for FOID: June 7, 2020

Active: July 24, 2020

Applied for CCL: June 22, 2020

Active: July 28, 2020

37 days with the 4th of July in between......wow just wow. A CCL in just over the 30 day objection period!

48 days for the FOID with the same holiday inserted!

There is hope for all and they walk among us. These timelines weren’t even in place back in ‘14 ‘15 when they first started.

Imagine a world where this happens to everyone, now close your eyes and imagine you’re in a small state within that world.

A n d snap. Open your eyes and it’s Illinois again......mind blown, boom, pow, etc (Batman sounds)!

I won't lie, I feel like I got EXTREMELY lucky...especially given the wait times that a lot folks have had.

For what it's worth, I DID submit prints and I was especially careful and exact when filling out all the applications (IE) Address history, Dates, Etc.

But you're right, I wish we lived in a world (or at the very least a State) where everyone had this timeline experience.

Hi everyone - new to the forum - found a lot of great information on here so far!

I just applied for my first FOID on 7/21020 and judging by the rest of the stories around here, I don't expect to get it before the end of the year. I'll keep you all posted! My plan is to get in touch with my rep shortly after the 30 day mark and hope for the best.
