These are the symptoms of the state’s toxic political culture. Public servants expect special privileges. And Gov. J.B. Pritzker is happy to oblige, according to a new investigation by WBEZ.The report found Pritzker filled at least 35 state jobs with individuals on House Speaker Mike Madigan’s “clout list.” A Madigan aide sent the list to Pritzker chief of staff Anne Caprara in December 2018. The speaker’s office then updated the list 17 times.“The speaker’s vast efforts to influence the personnel decisions of the new administration provides a sharp contrast to Pritzker’s repeated campaign promises to be his own man once elected to the Governor’s Mansion,” wrote reporter Dan Mihalopoulos.Perhaps most notable is what WBEZ could not find amid thousands of emails: a Pritzker staffer telling the speaker to stop. Quiet Observer Posted June 25, 2021 at 08:53 PM Share Posted June 25, 2021 at 08:53 PM Anyone else notice the lack of indictments and/or investigations on Chitcago's Dems since Biden took over? Here is a list of Illinois politicians convicted from 2013 through 2020. That averages about one a year during Trump’s administration. It does not include indictments. Some of those early convictions could have been the result of investigations started under the Obama administration. Some investigations started under Trump may result in convictions during the Biden administration. At this point it does not appear that Biden is any better or worse than Trump in combating corruption. The Feds usually do not make investigations public until they are ready to indict. bmyers Posted March 2, 2022 at 10:00 PM Share Posted March 2, 2022 at 10:00 PM CHICAGO (AP) — Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, for decades one of the nation’s most powerful state legislators, has been charged with racketeering and bribery. Charging documents unsealed Wednesday accuse the 79-year-old Chicago Democrat of 22 counts of leading a criminal enterprise whose purpose was to enhance the political power and financial well-being of Madigan and his allies. Madigan becomes the most prominent politician swept up in a series of raids and indictments targeting Illinois Democrats. Until earlier this year, Madigan was the longest-serving state House speaker in modern American history. He was nicknamed the “Velvet Hammer” for his insistence on strict party discipline. I want all of them, past, present and future to feel the heat and make the headlines. Maybe once and for all, we can get the population as a whole here in IL to realize the much needed change politically created by the most corrupt state government the nation has seen. Everyone wants to focus on Hoffa for that role. I can only hope this is the tip of the iceberg, and not the iceberg itself in the grand scheme of things. A conviction will be a great ending for this thread either way.
