Let's create an anti-gun map!

Let's create a map of all the anti-gun businesses in Illinois STARTING with BILL KAY CHEVROLET and going from there up to and including every company, every local government, and where every anti-gun event is held. We should use this map to no longer give any money to these businesses, localities, or even the businesses that simply host these events. If politicians won't listen to us, then we need to put the pressure elsewhere and apply it where it can hurt. To these companies bottom line.

I know we have a map somewhere that includes many posted buildings, but my vision for this map is an all inclusive map of anti-gun events, protests, in addition to anti-gun businesses. If we already have a system like this, then please put it somewhere much more obvious. I just bought a car from them last week and I want to make sure that next time I purchase a car, or a burger, or even a pair of socks that I am not supporting a business that seeks to work against our rights.

Below is a link to an editable version of the map. To add an anti-gun business, click additions, then select add marker -simple. This will allow you to choose the marker color and add the street address.

Right now anyone can edit this map, but this can be changed in the future easily. Deleting "False positives" can only be done by myself, but needing to have a business removed from this list doesn't concern me much, since after being added nothing short of a public statement supporting gun rights should redeem them.

Although I highly suspect that...

Yes... Bill Kay appears to be unjustly accused.

I read your post again. This is a pretty poorly thought out and divisive idea.

the phone app "posted!" is established and constantly updated.

Does it include straight up anti-gun businesses, and places that hold events or only posted locations? If so, then that should definitely be used instead of this and needs to be in a much more conspicuous place on the forums and this thread can be locked. If it doesn't then we can probably export the data into a map like this and add more anti-gun information.

Recently, we became aware of an article informing the public of a car wash in support of a Naperville gun control group.

We, here at the Bill Kay Auto Group, have never taken a side on the issue of gun ownership. We are NOT affiliated with any gun control groups nor are we hosting or planning to host any car wash related events.

We appreciate your continued support and will follow up with details as soon as possible.

The Posted! app has a (Illinois-specific) web version linked to at the top of IllinoisCarry and also the larger / more complete iPhone & Android version w/ complete mapping, "nearby" maps & lists, search by name, city, type of business, etc... across the entire USA. This app has over 9,000 contributors (nationwide) and over 30,000 active locations listed (between anti-gun, anti-gun lite, and pro-2a alternatives).

This app's main purpose is those businesses who are Posted with an anti-gun sign, but it does have an option for "anti-gun lite" for businesses who have taken an anti-gun stance, but who don't have a "no guns" sign up. This lets users decide for themselves whether to patronize a specific business.

But Bill Kay isn't in the app, b/c they were falsely accused / incorrectly identified per the other thread. :)

With a description like that I'd guess you were trying to sell the app

I wrote and maintain the Posted! app, so I do have a vested interest in its continued success. But the description is 100% correct & accurate. Also, the full Android and iPhone versions are $.99 (b/c I have to pay for the hosting / servers somehow), while the web version is free. :) Mostly the "vested interest" is my deep attention in making sure that such a comprehensive and easy-to-use list of anti-gun locations is out there and is regularly maintained. The more we can do to shed light on and put pressure on the anti-gun businesses, the better it suits our entire community / nation...

Hence my purple..

I've had the app since it was introduced. If you travel outside of your safe places the app is extremely helpful to guide you to places not posted. I don't visit posted places and the app is helpful in the sense that it also offers alternative places in the same area that do not have CPZ stickers.

 Just wanted to do the "full disclosure" thing.

I thought a lot today about what you said before you edited your post, I didn't have time to comment this morning. Yet, your previous reply is why I think we will lose many of our rights in this state within the next 10 years. Coming together to meet in the middle may be the morally correct thing to do, but it will not end with our rights intact because the middle isn't anywhere close to where we are at. We need to come together with what little power we have and do something. Things such as buycotting "the opposition" as I have suggested do not "needlessly divide people", it allows us all to regain a voice that we sorely lack.

Our friends on the other side recently made a public figure make a public apology for eating at a CHICKEN RESTAURANT that didn't align with their views and you have a problem with what I have suggested here? What you propose is a losing strategy.

Other than that, I did obviously jump to conclusions by singling out Bill Kay Chevrolet, and to that I apologize.

I think they are wrong on calling out people and business that don't agree with whatever is on their minds at any given moment. I was heartened a couple years ago when they called out Starbucks for allowing legal carry... and Starbucks did not comply because they are neither pro nor anti gun. They sell coffee.

There is a growing lack of civility in America. We can't have that. Maybe "they" started it but every time "we" retaliate (TwitWars) it just gets worse. I'm holding the line.

I pushed a stalled truck up Pikes Peak once. I looked really stupid doing it alone... and then a bunch of strangers got out of their cars to pitch in and we got it done. It would have been so easy to honk at the traffic jam and blow steam out your ears... instead we solved the problem.

Civility rules the day. I'm holding the line.
