omg_its_john_cena Posted January 4, 2017 at 08:01 PM Posted January 4, 2017 at 08:01 PM Admittedly, I don't know a ton about the speed that legislation snakes its way through our screwed up state, but there hasn't been any activity on SB711 for over a year now- http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=711&GAID=13&DocTypeID=SB&LegId=85799&SessionID=88 We had a pretty big thread of people staying on top of it back in 2015- http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=54749 ...But 2016 came and went, it got archived, and it doesn't seem like anyone has been talking about this since. Is this normal for these sort of things, or is this bill effectively just dead?
InterestedBystander Posted January 4, 2017 at 08:14 PM Posted January 4, 2017 at 08:14 PM (edited) You want SB2294 I think. http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/billstatus.asp?DocNum=2294&GAID=13&GA=99&DocTypeID=SB&LegID=93502&SessionID=88 Passed Senate and on its way to House when there was a stabbing/murder with one in Chicago which made the Northern Dems nervous. Last status update is 6/30/16. Doubt it makes it into the last 2 days of session next week. Not sure if that means a complete restart in future legislature sessions. Some discussion here. It did get a new sponsor http://illinoiscarry.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=63010 Edited January 4, 2017 at 08:24 PM by InterestedBystander

Especially in a CCL holders hands. And these people are not only allowed to speak but also permitted to run a state huh ? Fear mongering morons. When is the illogical nonsense gonna stop.... Probably never right. Edited January 4, 2017 at 08:20 PM by mic6010
omg_its_john_cena Posted January 4, 2017 at 08:23 PM Author Posted January 4, 2017 at 08:23 PM Oh cool, I didn't realize bills got re-numbered like this. Thanks for the heads-up.
mauserme Posted January 4, 2017 at 08:57 PM Posted January 4, 2017 at 08:57 PM SB711 was an earlier, similar bill addressing both automatic knives and stun guns. It's probably too late in session with not enough interest in pushing these bills, to get either through during the 99th General Assembly. It wouldn't surprise me if they're filed again later in January for the 100th GA.
AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted January 11, 2017 at 04:49 PM Posted January 11, 2017 at 04:49 PM No need to subscribe joebie the 99th general assembly ended yesterday so if this bill is reintroduced will receive a new bill number.

mauserme Posted January 11, 2017 at 04:58 PM Posted January 11, 2017 at 04:58 PM I'll try to remember to update this thread if we see a knife bill filed.
AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted January 11, 2017 at 07:33 PM Posted January 11, 2017 at 07:33 PM I'll try to remember to update this thread if we see a knife bill filed.I was thinking the same thing. Be a good diea to update the old threads with a link to the new threads and lock the old ones once things start getting filed.
anonymous too Posted January 11, 2017 at 07:36 PM Posted January 11, 2017 at 07:36 PM Why would having a CCL be a requirement?
VannDaddy Posted January 11, 2017 at 07:51 PM Posted January 11, 2017 at 07:51 PM Why would having a CCL be a requirement?Probably cause it makes you a card carrying good guy instead of a non-card carrying possibly good guy.
anonymous too Posted January 11, 2017 at 07:56 PM Posted January 11, 2017 at 07:56 PM That makes sense.

And yeah, I didn't even think about the fact that the 99th just ended. I've been out of the game for a little bit

John Q Public Posted January 24, 2017 at 06:16 PM Posted January 24, 2017 at 06:16 PM (edited) What are the chances for this thing to go somewhere? Not to change the subject, but I'd love to be able to have more non-lethal alternatives. Why we can carry a gun, but not a taser that fires barbs and stuns is beyond me. I know I would consider this as an option before I had to use lethal force. I know they will let us use contact tasers, but I don't want to have to get that close in a lot of situations; before I would do that I would have to go for the gun... another option would be great. Highwayman Posted January 24, 2017 at 06:33 PM Posted January 24, 2017 at 06:33 PM While I'm glad this is moving forward for the taser inclusion, I can't for the life of me imagine ever buying or carrying an automatic knife when fixed blades are legal and quicker to access. Now, if this bill had allowed collapsible batons...We'd have a very neutral nonlethal option.

I have hand mobility issues at times and carry a spring assisted opener as a simple folder causes me too many problems. Would welcome autos legalized as I cant see a fixed blade as a solution for me. Agree with the batons. Edited January 24, 2017 at 06:46 PM by InterestedBystander

mauserme Posted January 24, 2017 at 07:22 PM Posted January 24, 2017 at 07:22 PM There were some earlier bills that included Tasers. I don't think this one does.
InterestedBystander Posted January 24, 2017 at 07:31 PM Posted January 24, 2017 at 07:31 PM (edited) Trying to find the passage where batons are illegal.Thought it is in UUW Perhaps it depends on your interpretation of bludgeon and some other terms 720 ILCS 5/24-1) (from Ch. 38, par. 24-1) Sec. 24-1. Unlawful use of weapons. (a) A person commits the offense of unlawful use of weapons when he knowingly: (1) Sells, manufactures, purchases, possesses orcarries any bludgeon, black-jack, slung-shot, sand-club, sand-bag, metal knuckles or other knuckle weapon regardless of its composition, throwing star, or any knife, commonly referred to as a switchblade knife, which has a blade that opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in the handle of the knife, or a ballistic knife, which is a device that propels a knifelike blade as a projectile by means of a coil spring, elastic material or compressed gas; or (2) Carries or possesses with intent to use the sameunlawfully against another, a dagger, dirk, billy, dangerous knife, razor, stiletto, broken bottle or other piece of glass, stun gun or taser or any other dangerous or deadly weapon or instrument of like character; or (3) Carries on or about his person or in any vehicle,a tear gas gun projector or bomb or any object containing noxious liquid gas or substance, other than an object containing a non-lethal noxious liquid gas or substance designed solely for personal defense carried by a person 18 years of age or older; or (4) Carries or possesses in any vehicle or concealedon or about his person except when on his land or in his own abode, legal dwelling, or fixed place of business, or on the land or in the legal dwelling of another person as an invitee with that person's permission, any pistol, revolver, stun gun or taser or other firearm, except that this subsection (a) (4) does not apply to or affect transportation of weapons that meet one of the following conditions: (13) Carries or possesses on or about his or herperson while in a building occupied by a unit of government, a billy club, other weapon of like character, or other instrument of like character intended for use as a weapon. For the purposes of this Section, "billy club" means a short stick or club commonly carried by police officers which is either telescopic or constructed of a solid piece of wood or other man-made material. bmyers Posted January 24, 2017 at 08:14 PM Posted January 24, 2017 at 08:14 PM So you can't carry a baton because it is a bludgeon, but you can carry a male goat (billy) as long as you don't plan on hurting anyone with it?
anonymous too Posted January 24, 2017 at 09:50 PM Posted January 24, 2017 at 09:50 PM Nice this new version includes all IL gun owners.

InterestedBystander Posted February 6, 2017 at 01:11 AM Posted February 6, 2017 at 01:11 AM So you cant own automatic knives in IL? oops...Yep, and yet they have been sold at gun shows for years. Had bills submitted last couple of legislative sessions and it almost passed in 2016 until some female killed another with a switchblade late last year.
