cmander0789 Posted October 20, 2016 at 07:44 PM Share Posted October 20, 2016 at 07:44 PM I was admitted to a psych ward 5 years ago and my FOID was revoked. Now that my 5 years is up, how would I go about getting it back? Also, (and forgive me if this isn't an acceptable topic for this board) if I were to move to another state, will I have problems owning a firearm there too? Thanks for the help! Molly B. Posted October 20, 2016 at 07:53 PM Share Posted October 20, 2016 at 07:53 PM If you were to move away would you have a problem? It depends on whether being admitted to the psych ward was voluntary or involuntary. Involuntary is a federal prohibition on possessing firearms. From the ISP website: Complete the Request for FOID Appeal and Request for Investigation and Waiver of Liability forms (required for all appeals). Additional forms or documentation are required based upon the type of appeal.Mail all the required forms and other documentation as applicable to:Illinois State PoliceFirearms Services Bureau801 South Seventh Street Suite - 400-M ATTN: AppealsSpringfield, Illinois 62703Electronic submission of a FOID appeal is not available at this time FOID Appeal Requirements (Mental Health)Request for Investigation and Waiver of LiabilityPsychiatric Evaluation or Letter Requirement
