Vs Gas/Piston? Fire away........ Thanks,Bubba.
Len S Posted July 17, 2016 at 08:29 PM Posted July 17, 2016 at 08:29 PM ummm I may get blasted for this.. If you like it and it feels good, looks like it was put together well, then who else do you have to impress? No matter what others might say you will not know how happy you will be with it till you put a lot of rounds down range. if it works and you like it nuff said!
RandyP Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:03 PM Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:03 PM My AR experiences are with direct impingement rifles but here is one bit of info (lots of Google stuff out there) http://info.stagarms.com/blog/bid/297530/The-difference-between-Gas-Piston-and-Direct-Impingement-technology-for-an-AR-15 Since there are so many AR variants and options it come down to just what YOU want to do with the thing and what your practical budget is. Good functional, accurate ARs start at about $650 and go up to almost infinity - lol For MY general plinking use, budget rifles/pistols have all the features I realistically need. I tend to prefer basic Mil-Spec rifles and shy away from anything made with "proprietary" components, however that applies to a BCG. I have no need for ambi safeties or charging handles either and am not a fan of all the handgrip rail systems. They feel abrasive to me.and I'm not planning on hanging flashlights, lasers or espresso machines from an AR anyway. As has been ably said , YOU only have to keep your wife happy (oh and yourself too - lol) so what feels good in MY paws is of little to no value to the discussion I reckon.
WARFACE Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:08 PM Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:08 PM You just opened Pandoras box on the DI vs Piston debate. You didn't really say what it was specifically that you like about it other than it feels great. This looks like a nice weapon but there are lots of good ARs on the market, what is it about this one that you really like? My opinion on DI vs. piston. DI....gun gets dirty and runs hot. Gas piston....gun stays clean and runs cooler. Thats all. Unless you are in a full fledged Zombie apocalypse , you won't run a DI gun hard enough to get it to malfunction and the piston adds to the cost considerably. My 2cts.
mic6010 Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:17 PM Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:17 PM Anything LWRC makes is good. This gun here looks like it has lots of proprietary stuff on it including a forged gas key on the BCG and ambi releases and stuff. And I don't see a price but I'm betting its gonna be close to 2 grand or something right ?My advice would be find something in the 1K range with a quad rail and see if you miss any of those features. Plenty of good mil spec or better guns in that price range. Daniel Defense, BCM, Spikes Tactical. The hardest part is obviously gonna be finding them in stock anywhere given the current climate. Don't be afraid to mix and match uppers and lowers though if you find a good deal, ARs are like adult legos. Here's my "tactical" rig below. It started life as a standard m4 carbine upper with the mil spec plastic hand guards and front sight post as bought from Palmetto State Armory.I took off the hand guards and retainers, cut down and sanded the front sight post to make it a "low profile" gas block. Slapped on a Troy M-lok rail and some magpull pro Iron sights.I had the lower already but I stuck on a magpul grip and stock and colored in the markings to make it high speed and low drag. Total cost for everything was around $850-$900 factoring in the lower at about $350 as it sits with the RRA 2 stage NM trigger in it. But you can get complete lowers for around $150 -$200 and just drop in a better trigger too. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f227/pac6010/004_zpswcem1izg.jpg
mic6010 Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:23 PM Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:23 PM O yeah and gas piston ARs are like meh....solution looking for a problem. If you're gonna get one buy something like the SIG MKX or whatever its called. The one the Orlando shooter used.Everyone raves about it and more importantly Sig engineered it to be a gas piston AR from the start. Stay away from those piston AR conversions and the like that use standard AR uppers and slap on a piston system wit ha modified BCG. Those are bad juju.
Bubbacs Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:40 PM Author Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:40 PM Yeah, I'm more about not knowing di vs piston! As for price, I'm open.Like the DD stuff, little heavy, but it is mil-spec and solid rep. I've actually broken one of my own pet peeves, review/read/read/read first before posting.I got carried away. First Ar style since, well, since long ago.Don't wish to add huge amounts of hanging plants and bling on it.Fr/R sights, optics, hand grip maybe, LOTS of mags, nice carry case......done.
RandyP Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:48 PM Posted July 17, 2016 at 09:48 PM For what sounds like 'general' AR use? Plenty of excellent options in the $1K and under range out there. If you buy mil spec you can add any number of aftermarket items down the road after you've had a chance to re-acquaint yourself with the platform I hadn't fired a 5.56 since Vietnam myself - lol.
Bubbacs Posted July 17, 2016 at 10:02 PM Author Posted July 17, 2016 at 10:02 PM @RandyP Good guess. So, I'm all over the place, and need to slow down.I've got the green light now, and don't want her mind to change.I know what I reall want, and it's only two options, but I guess I was attempting to save her a little cash, not really her, but make it less about me and the money, vs being ok with other options. Here's the real want vs the above "save some cash" route. And let's be honest if we can, if it's not an issue of saving cash, get what you want right? DD MK12DDM4V11Pro I have a line on either, my choice for the same MSRP as the LWRC above.I always go back n forth, save, don't save, get, don't get..........maybe why I've had 3 heart ops!!!!! Thanks guys for posting, I'm gonna watch Big Brother now........

Actually the espresso machine sounds like a great addition - it can use the waste heat from the gas tube to heat the water. Double espresso, that will be one 30 round mag dump - slightly cheaper than Starbucks.
