GeekDad Posted July 9, 2016 at 11:44 PM Share Posted July 9, 2016 at 11:44 PM Anyone know where I can go to try out a SCCY CPX-2 in the western burbs? I'm thinking of buying one but want to try it out first.

Uncle Harley Posted July 10, 2016 at 01:49 AM Share Posted July 10, 2016 at 01:49 AM they are $200 guns, just get one and if you don't like it, sell it.

kster Posted July 10, 2016 at 02:05 AM Share Posted July 10, 2016 at 02:05 AM would it be a straw purchase if we pooled money together to purchase one?

I'm thinking of buying one but want to try it out first. You might need to call the store anyway. Last time I went to rent a specific firearm, after driving there I found out it was out of rental rotation for detailed inspection and cleaning. West suburban shops that rent which come to mind are Midwest, Article 2 and Megasports. No SCCY on Gats site or Maxons and some others do not list, but Article 2 showsSCCY CPX 1TT 9mmSCCY CPX 2CB 9mmSCCY cpx 2 pistol 9 mm http://article2range.com/rental-firearms-and-fees/ They wont rent to single shooters though. Mr_Rich Posted July 10, 2016 at 03:18 AM Share Posted July 10, 2016 at 03:18 AM My daughter in Ohio bought one and we shot it last week when she came here to visit. With defensive rounds it was quite snappy. With 115 grain FMJ's it wasn't too bad recoil wise. Not a bad gun, it does have a long and heavy trigger but I'm used to that shooting revolvers. GeekDad Posted July 10, 2016 at 03:23 AM Author Share Posted July 10, 2016 at 03:23 AM I've heard that +P shouldn't be used and seen reports of frames cracking as well so I wanted to try it out and see if I could manage the heavy DA trigger. The price and warranty sure make it attractive.
Mr_Rich Posted July 10, 2016 at 03:30 AM Share Posted July 10, 2016 at 03:30 AM The defensive rounds we shot were Federal C98P 115 grain standard pressure rounds. I'd avoid +p in any polymer frame in general.
Capt_Destro Posted July 10, 2016 at 02:09 PM Share Posted July 10, 2016 at 02:09 PM The Bad: I wanted to like mine, I had nothing but issues. I researched it heavily, watched reviews, watched "torture tests" It did not live up to my expectations at all. The front sight is friction fit and made out of polymer. It is prone to popping out of the gun. My rear sight also fell out on several occasions even after using loctite. Not to mention I kept having failure to extract even after parts were replaced personally. I even sent it back and still had issues. The Good:It actually felt good in the hand, for DAO the trigger wasn't bad either. Recoil wasn't a problem. Also you can buy spare frames cheap since the trigger housing is serialized. The warranty is also great, they will send you spare/replacement parts at no charge. If you are going cheap. You are better off buying a Taurus PT111 Gen 2 or a Ruger LC9, at least its less of a gamble than the SCCY. Doesn't cost much more either. Also 9mm +P is safe in "quality" polymer framed handguns. GeekDad Posted July 10, 2016 at 03:41 PM Author Share Posted July 10, 2016 at 03:41 PM Yeah, I'm hearing and seeing the same reports. Too many minuses and not enough plusses for me to spend the money or be comfortable with it.
Hipshot Percussion Posted July 10, 2016 at 03:45 PM Share Posted July 10, 2016 at 03:45 PM I know the Range @ 355 have them in stock, but I don't know it you can rent any.
shookstein Posted July 10, 2016 at 10:17 PM Share Posted July 10, 2016 at 10:17 PM I had one and sold it. Was pretty happy with it, but didn't like the trigger.
fnnuguy Posted July 11, 2016 at 01:10 AM Share Posted July 11, 2016 at 01:10 AM What is it about that pistol that interest you? What is your purchase criteria? What is you firearm experience level? These pistols are cheap so most ranges won't have one to rent because they want to sell you more expensive guns, plus the fact that the Name Brands probably would hold up better in the long run. A skky or Kel-tek or similar pistol will not normally see a lot of shooting, they are like spare tires (in your car trunk) it's there if you need it and you hope you never do. C0untZer0 Posted July 11, 2016 at 05:30 AM Share Posted July 11, 2016 at 05:30 AM I researched it heavily, watched reviews, watched "torture tests" Ya, I wasn't impressed with the peanut butter and maple syrup video. I would have been much more impressed if the guy had shot the pistol over the course of 6 months and reported on his findings, but there was never a follow-up review after 2014 that I'm aware of. I just purchased a Taurus Millennium G2 PT111, I thought about posting my review here, but honestly posting pictures to this forum is such a PITA that I said to myself "Aw screw it..." Here is my review of the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 on The High Road: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=806541

They are as close as you can get to the perfect CCW pistol (subjectively)But their Customer Service SUCKS! As do many other manufacturers
Huski92 Posted July 13, 2016 at 03:09 PM Share Posted July 13, 2016 at 03:09 PM Held them and dry fired them. I have friends who own them and like them. I guess for the price they are ok. A bit thick. Long trigger. I would rather spend my money on a SA xds or xd sub compact at the $400 range.
