gLockedandLoaded Posted January 18, 2016 at 01:47 AM Posted January 18, 2016 at 01:47 AM I loved Crossbreed until I took a defensive pistol class and learned the flaws of their design. Plus I could never get my Shield one to stop "creaking." Tried saddle soap, baby powder, etc. I like my Aliengear 3.0 so far, but still in the testing phase. Comptac for the win though. Those things are quality.

GWBH Posted January 18, 2016 at 02:58 AM Posted January 18, 2016 at 02:58 AM Accept the reality that you will soon have a holster drawer like mine..(These are just the ones that are put away..others are 'on station'..LOL!!) http://www.doodnet.com/images/holsterdrawer.jpg I'm sure others have the same thing..if not more... Its a journey you WILL make.....Accept it...Embrace it.... Thread winner - hands down!!
morgantron Posted January 18, 2016 at 03:18 AM Posted January 18, 2016 at 03:18 AM Good luck on your journey to find a holster that is right for you. Like shown above, expect to have a box of drawer full of the failures. I speak from experience to stay away from Crossbreed. There is, or was, it admittedly was over 2 years ago, have a flap of leather at the top. It will wear down and begin to roll. It could easily get caught up during reholstering and cause a negligent discharge. I brought it to their attention, they did not address it, it has been disposed of. Alien Gear is ok at best. Obviously there are a lot of people that would disagree. For the price its probably worth having a few because they are so versatile. You are carrying a Shield. It is one of the easiest guns to conceal. For me it works great in appendix. the INCOG is a great setup. I also use Zorn Holsters out of Arizona. The owner is awesome. Both are Kydex, which you mentioned you did not like. But a quality one might change your mind. Stay away from collapsible holsters, not sure why someone would suggest that, especially to someone you just got their carry permit. I won't go on a rant but they are just dumb. Spend some money on your holster and GET A GOOD BELT!!! Get a quality leather GUN belt!! That will make a huge difference. Best of luck on your journey.
gLockedandLoaded Posted January 18, 2016 at 02:53 PM Posted January 18, 2016 at 02:53 PM I loved Crossbreed until I took a defensive pistol class and learned the flaws of their design. please elucidateThe leather is too thin. The top flap tends to fold over with time. The problem is when you try to reholster, it actually gets in the way of the gun (can be dangerous). I modified both of mine by cutting the leather down. Had to do one in the class (someone else with a CB had to do the same, it's a safety issue) Alien Gear, Comptac, Old Faithful and any other hybrid holsters I've used don't have this problem. I already mentioned the creaking problem. I think a lot of people have had this. Some say the saddle soap or baby powder work but for me it kept coming back. For ~$100 holster I expect more. There are much better values out there for your money. Again this is just my opinion. Obviously some people love them and maybe at one time they were the best option.
Bitter Clinger Posted January 19, 2016 at 03:56 PM Posted January 19, 2016 at 03:56 PM I tried a Crossbreed IWB and it was pretty good for an IWB holster, but unlike a lot of guys, I do NOT have a lot of real estate around my midsection. Because of this, an IWB holster ends up leaving a big gap in my pants since it can't sit flush and it usually ends up "migrating" to the 6 o'clock position where I can't reach it. Next I tried an Alien Gear OWB. Like most people said, they're OK for the money, but you get what you pay for. It held the gun OK, but it was somewhat flimsy and flopped around on my belt. I didn't want to be yet another one of those people who ended up with a box full of holsters that didn't quite work out, but it looked like that's where I was going. For my third holster, I did a LOT of research and ended up choosing the Revolution Concepts Spartan OWB holster. It's 100% Kydex, including the belt loops. This might be a turn-off for some people and I was skeptical at first, but there is a reason they made the loops out of Kydex and not leather. Kydex doesn't have any flexibility which results in the holster staying flush against your body and it doesn't move. The Spartan holster is also slightly curved to conform to your shape, which makes it more comfortable. I got it with the 15 degree cant which greatly improves comfort while sitting in a car since the butt of the gun doesn't poke you. It also allows easier access and ability to draw when sitting in a car. When inserting the gun into the holster, it locks in place with tactile and audible "click", so there is no question that it's in there and secure. So far, I really like it and hopefully it will be my last holster. Also as it's already been said, make sure you get a decent gun belt since most holsters aren't going to work very well without one.
Trevis Posted January 19, 2016 at 04:12 PM Posted January 19, 2016 at 04:12 PM What I've been really looking for is an all Kydex holster, 2 clip, 15-20° cant, with a bit of a wide footprint, and a curved profile to conform to my body. Does anyone make one that isn't $100+?

It doesn't shift due to additional friction and is less plasticy...I'm running the G43 which is smaller than the Shield but a little bigger than the Sigs (938 and 290) you're familiar with. I'm happy with it.

I have a single clip for my G19, and it just sticks the handle out too far, and shifts around too much.

They have an OWB version with 2 belt loops. The AIWB version is single clip.
Trevis Posted January 19, 2016 at 05:19 PM Posted January 19, 2016 at 05:19 PM Yeah, it's got to be 2 clip. A fully stocked G19 is a bit heavy in the handle. It needs the second clip to stabilize.
