barryware Posted January 4, 2016 at 09:26 PM Posted January 4, 2016 at 09:26 PM Site been down on and off all weekend & today. Latest posts are from the 31st so some sort of crash / restore must have taken place. Bummer.. I lost all of my IBTL posts..
WARFACE Posted January 4, 2016 at 09:28 PM Posted January 4, 2016 at 09:28 PM I was worried it was on my end as I just got a new laptop for Christmas. The site has been acting goofy for awhile. Hopefully all better.
RANDY Posted January 4, 2016 at 09:33 PM Posted January 4, 2016 at 09:33 PM Opencarry.org got hit with a DDos attack a few days ago and was down for mostly of 2-3 days
singlecoilpickup Posted January 4, 2016 at 09:35 PM Posted January 4, 2016 at 09:35 PM It looks like several days worth of data was lost. I'm guessing the site was restored from a backup? Do you guys need some technical help? I've dealt with the infrastructure architecture for some pretty big sites. It seems like you guys might be having some issues with attacks, security, or scaleability, and I can certainly help with all three.

Latest posts are from the 31st so some sort of crash / restore must have taken place. Bummer.. I lost all of my IBTL posts.. I noticed that too. I saw many threads where my posts had disappeared, and then realized all posts from the last 3 days did as well.
ChicagoRonin70 Posted January 4, 2016 at 09:59 PM Posted January 4, 2016 at 09:59 PM Wow, that must have been some pretty significant hack that went on here, to wipe out almost the past week of posts. Anyone know exactly what happened?

Finally to get back on the forum I had to change my password and do back flips to get back in here. In was having bad withdrawal symptoms.

Molly B. Posted January 4, 2016 at 10:14 PM Posted January 4, 2016 at 10:14 PM Thanks to our tech guys and the guys at Techpro (our hosting gurus) we are back up and running. Yes, a restore back to Dec. 31 was in order because of a security breach coupled with a security update that did not go as planned. We've had issues with running a beat up and tattered IPB forum software that does not play well with load balancing servers. The plans are to migrate to a more sophisticated version in the next months. Just hoping the patched up version will hold together just a bit longer.

raymond963 Posted January 4, 2016 at 10:59 PM Posted January 4, 2016 at 10:59 PM I'm an early riser, 3:00-4:00AM, and I gave up caffeine years ago. Illinois Carry is my morning wake-up and I've been off balance all day. Glad it's back!

singlecoilpickup Posted January 5, 2016 at 12:52 AM Posted January 5, 2016 at 12:52 AM You guys need to get behind some kind of proxy that can mitigate attacks like DDoS and SQL Injection. Personally, I recommend CloudFlare. Right now it looks like the illinoiscarry.com domain is pointing straight at the IP address of whatever you're using for a load balancer in some small potatoes data center. Frankly, your setup is begging to be attacked and exploited.
McCroskey Posted January 5, 2016 at 01:39 AM Posted January 5, 2016 at 01:39 AM Yes, CloudFlare is pretty good. There have been other security breaches in the past, maybe it's time to tighten things down...

I know enough to be dangerous - as in "please don't touch anything"!!
