WILL THIS STATE EVER CATCH UP?

Illinois will be close to the 50th; probably just before NY, New Jersey and Hawaii

If legal, I would carry a full sized handgun OC in a level 3 holster most of the time. People OC up in Wisconsin all the time and besides a couple of people getting the cops called on them for OCing AR's infront of police stations etc there have been no real incidents.

If you follow the history of Illinoscarry.com we started our serious push in 2004. That's when we solidified our strategy of a three pronged approach and worked toward our goal.

From the input we received from other states like Missouri, they told us it would realistically take 10 years to pass a good RTC law.

It took us 9 hard years but we won.

Realistically, 10 years from CCW to OC is about right.

I'm not saying I agree but I'm just trying to be realistic especially when there is not as much grass roots support for OC as CCW ..

Unless the USSC requires OC, Illinos won't allow it in the foreseeable future. The pols went kicking and screaming to CCW because they were forced to.

Correct.

The ILGA was dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century by first the McDonald decision and then Shepherd.

Do you know who Otis McDonald and Mary Shepherd both have in common ?

Both of those people were lined up by the same person.

It was all part of the same three pronged strategy.

Took FL closer to 20. And CA is moving backwards lol Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

In a slight hijack, I'm hoping that rather than backwards, CA moves westward. Like a couple of hundred miles and underwater several thousand feet!

Sorry, carry on with the OC discussion. I'd welcome OC if only for those times when nothing else will do.

I wouldn't ever OC even if we could.

This.

Agree. I don't see how drawing extra attention to myself would be a benefit. Either from Chicken Little civilians, or the criminal element who would have a number 1 target to put a bullet in my head and gain another weapon. But hey, if you want that attention, go for it. It's your right. I'll blend in with the crowd.

I believe the benefit of OC is when the potential threat to you isn't human (IE coyotes, etc) as it allows you access your firearm more quickly.

Obviously (actual) animals aren't something those of us in Cook county have to worry about much

Wild animals are the least of my worries. And if I did find animals as my threat, I'd have NO problem drawing on them quicker than on a human. $Their testimony in court is a LOT less reliable.$

I wouldn't open carry, not in Chicago at least, but there is an unforeseen advantage to having it: printing won't be a problem anymore. Having open carry essentially creates a legal continuum between concealed vs. open carry, so it doesn't really matter if your piece is properly covered or not.

We will follow DC and be 51st again :)

Na. We'll easily beat DC and be #50.

But in all reality, that "46" is very misleading. It includes many states which are "may Issue", require a permit, and will revoke your permit if they ever actually see you open carrying. (e.g. Maryland, Massachusetts, etc...) I actually counted, and there will be "40" states that realistically allow open carry (some w/ permit and some w/o) once TX law takes effect and if it passes in FL.

BTW, I'm not seeing any record that this has actually passed in FL. So FL may hopefully allow OC, but it is not the case yet...

It would be a heck of a lot better if They did not have so many places posted that what I would like to see. That or make it were you don't get arrested if you do carry in a posted place

My revolver of choice is a little big for CC (GP-100, .357 Mag.). I have a leather holster rigged in "buscadero" style (low on the leg) as I have elbow problems that make it hard to pull a revolver with a 4" barrel clear of the holster on my waist. However, even this rig is a bit heavy in the summer, so I took a nice nylon holster and attached a "quick-lok" on adjustable straps for going around the leg. If I "sweat up" this rig, it can go in the washer!

Sweet Jesus, we've got more important things to worry about than open carry.

I swear, whenever open carry is mentioned, some of you fellers are like a dog, "Squirrel! Squirrel..." and off you go!
