chip Posted July 30, 2015 at 07:19 PM Posted July 30, 2015 at 07:19 PM I was looking for a Chevy a few weeks ago, and when I went by Sunrise Chevrolet I noticed they were posted...so I kept going. Now that I have my new (relatively expensive Chevy) I went there with the expectation of having to ask the management to come to the door for a conversation. To my surprise, the sign was gone. Before entering, I asked a salesman outside about it, and he said they took it down because they had an event with a bunch of Military. I asked to speak to the manager so I could congratulate them on their new found sanity. When I started to thank him for taking it down, he interrupted and said "It's going back up very soon". Any of you that know me, know that while I'm very passionate about our rights, I'm a very calm and soft spoken person. I tried to explain that the sign has never stopped violence, they were aware of that. I explained that those of us that carry are the good guys (manager even said he had a FOID). I pointed to my new car and explained that it's costing them money (he was aware of that). The manager even told me that he'd had numerous complaints about the policy and requests to remove the sign. He even told me that some of the local Corvette clubs have approached him. He insisted that customers have asked for this policy (seriously?). He said that he respects my right to carry, and I should respect his right not to. I explained that I respect his personal decision not to carry, but I choose not to separate my firearm from my wallet, and that his expectation for me to sacrifice my safety is not reasonable. I was starting to get really frustrated, so I politely ended the conversation, left my business card, and advised him that when they change their policy, I'll be happy to bring my car in for service...and possibly even purchase my next car from them. I think we'll see pigs fly before they gain sanity. - chip
Craigcelia Posted July 30, 2015 at 07:25 PM Posted July 30, 2015 at 07:25 PM I hear ya Chip. That ticks me off to no end and gets my blood pressure rising. You try and have an intelligent conversation and they keep throwing up road blocks with not a care in the world they may lose business. I for one will never go there hearing about this.
chip Posted July 30, 2015 at 07:58 PM Author Posted July 30, 2015 at 07:58 PM I REALLY hope our Military know that they only take the signage down temporarily. What incredible hypocrites. So...it's OK for some people sometimes, but basically, they'll trample over the 2nd Amendment and citizens' right to protect themselves MOST of the time. - chip
Gamma Posted July 30, 2015 at 08:02 PM Posted July 30, 2015 at 08:02 PM Obviously their opinion is for sale since they took it down for the military event. They're just choosing to discriminate even more selectively.
MagSlap Posted July 30, 2015 at 08:07 PM Posted July 30, 2015 at 08:07 PM I recently took a car in for servicing at my long time car dealer. On that day? A military fundraising event. Not posted.I had a '10 dollar hot dog' (make a donation to the bucket, get some food), and bought a few raffle tickets. (Didnt win JACK! Hehehe)Matter 'o fact I made it a point to get my car done on that day. There were no discussions of CC'ing. No need for it. As far as I know they are not pulling a 'post when we want to stunt'. So..there are dealers that dont post. ETA: I've done car shows at Sunrise in the past.. I have no intentions of visiting them again based on your info.
RINGKINGS Posted July 30, 2015 at 08:22 PM Posted July 30, 2015 at 08:22 PM Civilian discrimination lawsuit??????????? ....... all respect to our military....... but civilians are people too...lol
Jeffrey Posted July 30, 2015 at 08:34 PM Posted July 30, 2015 at 08:34 PM Thanks for the info. I only buy and drive GM products. Not trying to derail with the whole Gubamint Motors thing here. The new Denali truck has been on my mind since they first released the new body style. If this is the sunrise chevy that's on North ave, I'll be sure to drive right past it.

When you see the sign say sorry I can see you don't want to sell a car to the likes of me. Explain why you are leaving.
FSA Posted July 30, 2015 at 09:12 PM Posted July 30, 2015 at 09:12 PM Talking to these people is like talking to your teenager in one ear out the other.

Glendale Heights, IL. Please stop in and let them know why they're not getting your business. If enough people do so, I suspect they will have to change their ways. They are in a business, and their purpose is to make a profit. I had a discussion with them in the spring. They are by far the closest Chevy to my house. Chevy & Pontiac are all I ever really buy. And now that Pontiac is gone, all future cars are most likely Chevy. I was looking for a new Corvette, and they had no interest in my business. It really annoys me because that's where I used to have all my cars serviced, but now I have to drive quite far out of my way instead. The sales manager I talked to was quite proud of their decision to abridge our rights. He couldn't seem to understand that no-one would ever start shopping there because of the sign, but that many people have stopped shopping there because of it. If anyone gets a chance, their phone # is 331-422-3899 and email is http://www.sunrisechevrolet.com/page/ContactUsForm3/master/secondary/ Please call or email and let them know what you think!

solareclipse2 Posted July 30, 2015 at 09:54 PM Posted July 30, 2015 at 09:54 PM A few months ago I took the plunge and bought a new Ford F-150. I realized I could actually afford the truck and went to Bill Kay Ford in Midlothian. They did not have a no guns sign posted and I carried out the entire process with my gun on my hip. No muss, no fuss.

Redlin Posted July 30, 2015 at 10:07 PM Posted July 30, 2015 at 10:07 PM Was headed to Sunrise this last weekend to look at new cars for my kid, but made a detour to look at Advantage Chevrolet in Bolingbrook first. The gun friendly folk there at Advantage made us a great deal ,so we never made it to Sunrise, luckily. If I had made it there and there was no signs, made a purchase, then returned to find it posted,I would have done everything possible to cancel the sale.I had even prepared my daughter that in the event she found a car she really liked, but the business was posted,we were leaving. She was fine with that idea.
Xwing Posted July 30, 2015 at 10:31 PM Posted July 30, 2015 at 10:31 PM Was headed to Sunrise this last weekend to look at new cars for my kid,Please send them a copy of your paperwork from Advantage and let them see the sale they lost! It's the best way to show them the error of their ways.

They may be slimeballs but car salesman gotta eat too. When you do buy your new Denali send a copy of the invoice to the owners and sales manager and let them know why you bought elsewhere.

Chuck43 Posted July 30, 2015 at 11:25 PM Posted July 30, 2015 at 11:25 PM Last December when I was looking for a 2015 Colorado I stopped at Sunrise and saw that they were posted. I got a salesman to come outside and I explained that as a previous customer I was interested in trading in my old truck on a new one but because of the sign on the door I couldn't enter the store. He asked me to wait a minute while he went in and spoke with the manager and when he came back he apologized and said the dumb a** would rather lose the sale then take the sign down. I then went over to Gun Friendly Dick Wickstrom in Roselle bought a truck from them and went back to Sunrise with it just to show them that they actually lost the sale.

Maybe those salesmen will go somewhere else if they are losing their place in line and sales. All the dealerships I have visited around here are not Posted. They know that they are there to sell cars not limit their customer base. So it's like a store posting a sign saying I only vote for Democrats or I only vote for Republicans. They chase customers away.

rmart Posted July 31, 2015 at 12:10 AM Posted July 31, 2015 at 12:10 AM Had the same experience. After purchasing my 2014 GMC Sierra SLT 4x4 max-tow I went back to them about six months later. I parked that big shiny new truck right in front and went in. I made a point of showing them the truck and letting them know that I went to their location to buy a new Silverado until I saw the sign. I turned around and went to Howard GMC in Elmhurst where I bought my truck. I made a point of letting them know how much I paid and why I turned around after making it to their front door. I also dropped off on of the no guns/no money cards. Got into a 'debate' with the sales manager who was the highest ranking officer there at the time. He kept insisting that it wasn't that he didn't want my money or to serve me, they just didn't want the guns. He actually used a form of the 'what about the children' meme on me. I advised him that just as it's his right to keep my concealed weapon out, it's also my right to take my money elsewhere. For sale and for future service as well. He wasn't happy. The whole conversation was polite and respectful and I cut it off and left when he started getting disrespectful. FYI, Stasek Chevy up north (Arlington Heights) is supportive of gun rights.
McCroskey Posted July 31, 2015 at 12:20 AM Posted July 31, 2015 at 12:20 AM Sunrise Chevrolet is owned by the Garber Automotive Group. They own a bunch of dealerships around the country. That's who you ought to be speaking to, not some local joe schmo floor manager. They're the ones who will care about losing sales, then ask the manager what the he__ he thinks he's doing (unless they're the ones who wanted to post... maybe check out some of their other dealerships?). http://garberauto.com/section/secondary/about-us/ Here are their mission statement and company values. I see some conflicts with this posting.http://www.garbercareers.com/mission-statement.html Here are their corporate officershttp://www.garbercareers.com/corporate-officers.html
MagSlap Posted July 31, 2015 at 12:35 AM Posted July 31, 2015 at 12:35 AM As I mentioned earlier in this thread...I've done car shows there before... In recognition of the comradere in this thread... Burn!!!! http://www.doodnet.com/images/sunriseburn.jpg

They are trained to do that. You did the right thing, keep on keeping on, we will and are getting those signs removed.
