Another way gun free zones encourage crime.

St. Louis police say gun thefts are up significantly this year, with many of them being stolen from cars.

Chief Sam Dotson suspects more people are leaving guns in their cars when they go to venues that prohibit firearms. He adds that in many of the break-ins, the firearm is the only item missing from the car.

Hmmm, who would have thought the criminal element would have found a way to capitalize on such an absurd rule as having to disarm before entering ANY building other than a Jailhouse or Criminal Court.

Maybe we need to lock our guns in the trunk when we leave the house so the "Look-outs" don't see us disarm and spring into action?

Arrests in Baltimore are down 58% while they just had their 37th murder for the month. If police aren't even responding to burglery calls in chicago as stated in another thread, I doubt they are there. Of course with gun restrictions in Maryland the way they are, gun shopping for the average thug may be a little on the thin side.

It is ridiculously easy to break into a car, so merely leaving your gun out of sight in the car does not do much to truly secure it. And if your car has bumper stickers or window stickers which give a hint as to your proclivity for firearms, you are making your car an even easier choice for the criminal to target. If you have to leave your gun in the car more than rarely, then get a secure container that is permanently affixed to the body of the car. You might still have your car broken into, but your gun will likely remain secure. On the other hand, you can remind yourself that "concealed means concealed" and decide for yourself how legally compliant you want to be in regard to GFZ postings. And if you know that you are going into a building with metal detectors, such as a courthouse, maybe for that day you just leave your gun locked in your home safe and take your chances.
