FOID changes

Recommended Posts

searched and could not find it this being covered. I also hope that I am posting in the right forum.

Had few customers get DENIED on a purchase in the last most. Every time I called I was told that it was due to them making some kind of a change to their FOID card. What I was told by ISP is that when that happens their card is placed in non-active status which is OK for them to poses firearm, but they would be getting a denial on a purchase until they get new card in.

So, if you have made a change, or even started and not finished it and have plans on making a firearm purchase, wait. Wait till you get a new card, or at least log back in and make sure that your status is active, other wise you will get a DENIAL. Nothing major, but it is a PIAA for both you and a dealer. new 4473, extra cost for running it, storing firearm until you get your new card.

It is early and I am on my first cup of java, so if not clear let me know which part and I will clarify it.

I have heard of several incidents happening like this. To fix the situation, the ISP is supposed to set the old FOID to be valid for 30 days past the new FOID being issued. For that 30 days, both cards will be valid. FFLs should call the ftip guys to report a problem.

Let me know if the ftip call does not help so I can report it.

Thank you!!!

The ISP website says very clearly when you go to order a replacement FOID online that your old FOID will be deactivated as soon as the new card is issued. It is pretty clear. This is kind of crazy IMO; what is someone going to do with the old or lost FOID? Why deactivate it at all? Why not wait for 3 months? It doesn’t make sense but it is very clear when you go for a replacement. Mine is beat up to all heck but I am waiting to get a new one until after I get myself a belated birthday gift.

Interesting. So technically, as soon as you order a new FOID card, you are instantly violating state law.

Way to go Illinois, making the law abiding instant, inadvertent law breakers. :Ahem...:

to be clear. You are still a OK to have and use firearms. You just not going to be able to purchase one until your new card comes in. They know it is an issue, when it will be resolved is a question.

When they get rid of the FOID card...

Not sure where you got that notion from, but what was actually said was that, if your FOID gets reissued through this process, your old FOID is still ok for the purpose of posession and use of firearms. You will not be able to purchase a firearm on the old FOID, you will need to wait for the new one to arrive.

He meant it'll be fixed when you no longer are required to have a FOID.

  • 3 weeks later...

Piling on this topic a bit. Hoping someone here may have some assistance.

recently moved (begining of year). a couple weeks ago I went online and processed my FOID change of address. I haven't heard or received anything in response, other than receipt for payment. logged in this morning and status shows "under review"????

I'm baffled as to why "under review", i do not have any issues that would deny, do not have, nor have i applied for CCL yet. My Drivers License info is correct in DMV.

I have read that this was a quick simple procedure, but not now apparently. any insight will be appreciated.

BTW, just looked at status again. address listed on my ISP account profile is correct
