C0untZer0 Posted May 20, 2016 at 03:59 PM Share Posted May 20, 2016 at 03:59 PM I don't think the CTA understands how damning those numbers are. And as alarming as those numbers are, they're really only a small fraction of the total number of crimes committed on and or near the CTA. They're also posting a list of arrests: http://www.transitchicago.com/assets/1/media_relations_documents/CTA_Video_Arrests_Sampling_2015.pdf

I used to think I was relatively safe on the red line but now I'm a little more concerned for my safety. This is one of those situations where I feel like having a gun would have saved this woman. storydw Posted August 18, 2016 at 05:13 PM Share Posted August 18, 2016 at 05:13 PM Does anyone have any stats on Chicago Metra lines?I ride the Rock Island District line every day.I have seen, over the last 20 years, many times when the Metra Police had to be called to take someone off the train.I have seen a few fist fights, but never heard of anything where I would need to use my gun.I have a license to carry, but as they are funded by the state, I think that a charge of possession would be a felony on them as well. With that in mind, I do not carry on the train, but hope to someday.I mean, I am not a threat to anyone other than someone who would attack me. I'll keep an eye out for any stats I can drag up and post them as well.

Yas Posted August 20, 2016 at 04:47 PM Share Posted August 20, 2016 at 04:47 PM Gunman robs Walgreens and then escapes on public transportation Belmont cta train station http://www.cwbchicago.com/2016/08/gunman-robs-walgreens-of-10k-escapes-on.html?m=1 Detectives are trying to track down the gunman who robbed a local Walgreens of up to $10,000 in cash during this morning’s rush hour. And, to the surprise of absolutely no one, the offender is believed to have escaped the area by taking a train from the Belmont CTA station.Shortly after 7 o’clock this morning, a man entered the store at 1001 W. Belmont then confronted a customer and an employee at gunpoint, according to a witness who spoke with CWB Chicago. The two victims were forced into the store management office where the robbery unfolded. Police describe the offender as a tall black man between 20- and 30-years-old. He wore a black wig, a tight fitted sweatshirt with front pockets, jeans with distinctive white markings on the front pocket area, and white gym shoes. One witness said the gunman had a black backpack and was carrying a can of Red Bull.Investigators believe that he arrived at the Belmont CTA station minutes before the robbery and he subsequently fled on a northbound train around 7:15AM. The Station That Cannot Be SecuredToday’s incident is the latest daring violent crime to unfold near the Belmont station this month. Yet, despite assurances from local alderman Tom Tunney that CTA station security is being “beefed up,” there never seem to be cops at the terminal when things go down. This morning’s hold-up took place 100 yards from the station during the morning rush hour, yet there were apparently no CTA resources on-hand to take action when 911 calls came in.As of late Tuesday night, there had been no arrests in three shootings and multiple robberies that have been committed near the Belmont CTA station this month. There are statistics if a crime happens in Chicago: https://data.cityofchicago.org/Public-Safety/Crimes-2001-to-present/ijzp-q8t2/dataThat's why I vastly prefer taking Metra. Since they have conductors on board they'll readily remove unruly passengers, plus those same passengers can't as easily get on, commit a crime, and get off at the next stop. There have been a few times when my train was delayed because of "police action".

Two people were taken into custody in connection to the shooting.Toth said the man’s condition was unavailable on Tuesday, but that the man was still receiving treatment at a St. Louis hospital. The investigator said the sheriff’s office does a routine check at each MetroLink station in the area and that a deputy was patrolling around the Swansea station at the time of the shooting on Monday. Toth said the deputy was able to apprehend two people believed to be involved in the shooting. This marked the second MetroLink station shooting within a week.Another man was shot during a robbery at the MetroLink station near the Casino Queen in East St. Louis around 8 p.m. Nov. 22, according to the sheriff’s office. Toth said the suspects stole “an undetermined amount of money” and shot the man in the back. The sheriff’s office said a deputy was not at the station when the robbery occurred, but said one responded shortly afterward.Toth said the man shot in East St. Louis has been released from the hospital and is cooperating with authorities in their investigation.“We are investigating and trying to connect the two,” Toth said of the two incidents in East St. Louis and Swansea. The sheriff’s office said it has been talking to witnesses and has received surveillance video from both shootings.More details are expected to be released Wednesday if charges are filed from Monday night’s incident.Patti Beck, a Metro spokesperson, said the transit system was assisting in both investigations.“Our entire team, which includes the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, St. Louis police, St. Louis County Police, along with our public safety officers and contracted security guards, we’re all committed to protecting riders that board the Metro system,” Beck said. “We’ll continue to do everything we can to transport our riders safely to their destinations.”
