There is an exception to a couple of specific provisions of the UUW law for those engaged in hunting and fishing. It is only an exception to those specific provisions of that particular law.

As others have stated, the location of where you'll be fishing is the main factor in determining if you can legally carry. Out on Lake Michigan, you should be fine. Local areas, probably not depending on if it's forest preserve, nature preserve, land controlled by dnr, etc.

To the OP ...

It is my prediction and hope that as folks in IL get used to concealed carry, the general mentality will shift from an assumption that carry is illegal, to an assumption that it is lawful. It's a much better and more positive state of mind to be in ... the state of mind that assumes "yes, I have a right to carry this gun" except for a few places that are clearly demarcated and clearly understood.

In other words, adopting a mentality that assumes carry is right and good, rather than assuming that it's wrong and bad.

Are dupage forest preserve properties, like Blackwell prohibited?

The only forest preserves specifically prohibited are the Cook County Forest Preserves. The only "public parks" are those under the control of a municipality or park district...

Any public park, athletic area, or athletic

facility under the control of a municipality or park

district, provided nothing in this Section shall prohibit a

licensee from carrying a concealed firearm while on a trail

or bikeway if only a portion of the trail or bikeway

includes a public park.

However, if you are in a County Forest Preserve, you have to be mindful of where a "playground" is....

Last year on a fishing site someone was saying he fished the Des Planes IN Crook co and looked across the river to see a pack of 18-20 coyotes watching him.

Since the site owner is very anti 2A as well as many of the members I never responded with ANY info but asked that my name be dropped.

I do not need to be reamed by fools.

There are a large bumber of IDNR Dedicated Nature Preserves which are also prohibited places, not just the ones in Cook Co. These are mostly small and unfortunately they many times are within other state park lands which are not GFZ. A complete listing by county and park name is here -http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/INPC/Pages/NaturePreserveDirectory.aspx The ones that aren't properly signed will be where folks are going to get jammed up. There's no clue what the DNR means by "Childrens playgrounds" since they have areas that are clearly a playground and other places where they stick a swing set in the middle of a campground - nobody wants to touch being the clod who says a swing set is or is not a "platground". If you are walking or biking through the woods and the path is 10 feet from a swing set, the DNR says you return to your car and disarm. I'm not saying that makes sense, I'm saying that is what they say. To the OP, good luck buddy, I wish I knew.

Where do they say this, please? Link?

"All firearms, including concealed firearms, are also prohibited on all IDNR State Refuge areas, IDNR DedicatedNature Preserves, and IDNR children playground areas. When visiting any of these locations,Concealed Carry Permit holders are required to secure their concealed firearms in their vehiclein accordance with the Illinois Concealed Carry Act.

"Molly, I can take you to three Illinois state parks where the exact scenario I describe can be found. In two of them there are trails that are not marked as leading to a "playground" if IDNR wants to call a swing set a "playground", either way, if you come out of the woods into this small clearing, finding a swing set sitting there you have no choice except to turn around. I'll be camping next week where my camper door will be 20 feet from one of these swing sets and NOBODY at the DNR will go on the record about if this is a GFZ playground or not. Not wanting to be a test case, I'll just be forced to disarm around my camper. My advise to everybody is to make sure you know the rules, or have deep pockets. I don't think the IDNR are playing square with us.

Not trying to be a jerk, but couldn't you camp somewhere further from a playground? That can't be your only option.

Let's hope. I don't know how much more negativity I can take!

This is also the ONE handicap accessible RV spot in the campground. No, I don't have another option. No offense taken or meant.

It is also a campground that has one of the many IDNR Dedicated Nature Preserves in it and there are two trails that cut through the preserve. If you are carrying and cross into these areas you would also be in violation. I haven't been down those trails since there are steps my wheelchair can't cross, but if there aren't signs on the trail, how would you know if you were in a GFZ?

Not every GFZ nature preserve is in Cook County, even though that was what was sold to us. Most of the states DNR land is potentially banned as a GFZ if you start looking at the actual property that's spelled out in http://dnr.state.il.us/law3/Documents/ConcealedCarryQnA.pdf if IDNR police want to see it that way.

IDNR says in this document carrying in a DNR refuge or nature preserve is prohibited. Does anyone know of the exact law or administrative rule that makes it verboten? I would like to read it for myself. I have poured through the DNR rules and can't find any language that would prohibit it. The closest I can find would be this

Section 110.170 Weapons and Firearms – Display and Use

It shall be unlawful for any person, other than authorized peace officers, to display or use on Department-controlled lands, except as authorized by the Department on hunting (reference 17 Ill. Adm. Code 510, 530, 550, 570, 590, 650, 660, 670, 680, 690, 710, 715, 720, 730, and 740), field trials (reference 17 Ill. Adm. Code 910), target or special event areas, any gun including shotgun, rifle, pistol, revolver, air or BB gun, sling shot, bow and arrow, switchblade knife with spring loaded blade, throwing knife, tomahawk or throwing axe, or martial arts devices.

(Source: Amended at 24 Ill. Reg. 12556, effective August 7, 2000)

but that seems like a stretch to me.

I guess I will call tomorrow and see if I can get a clarification.

Also pipedoc, if you can find out how wide a zone around these "playgrounds" is a GFZ since none of them are fenced. Is twenty feet from a swingset still playground space? 50 feet away? 100 feet? Since they won't tell us, the regulation does not say and letters to the IDNR are returned saying exactly the same thing, like a "hail mary", WE are confused and being confused about something that can put you in jail is not a good thing.
