marathonrunner Posted March 17, 2014 at 12:22 AM Posted March 17, 2014 at 12:22 AM So in other words, we can have it in our cars, to our friends house, and back to our house...lol

Yes, the list is extensive and burdensome but let's not mislead folks into thinking they cannot carry anywhere. Keep in mind the moms and dads in urban areas can now carry while taking their kids to and from school, passing through dangerous gang territory. People all over the state can carry all day long without finding themselves in a no carry zone. But we will keep in mind and keep warning everyone that "gun-free zones are killing zones".
Booxone Posted March 17, 2014 at 12:42 AM Posted March 17, 2014 at 12:42 AM I live in southern will county and I rarely have to disarm
lilguy Posted March 17, 2014 at 01:12 AM Posted March 17, 2014 at 01:12 AM (edited) Can we visit these places if we leave the gun in the center console/glovebox of our vehicles? Can I pickup my granddaughter at school with a gun in the console or visit a nephew in jail and have a gun in the glove box? Are these regulations only for carry but allow us to have concealed guns in our cars. Edited March 17, 2014 at 01:13 AM by lilguy

bmyers Posted March 17, 2014 at 01:59 AM Posted March 17, 2014 at 01:59 AM I have been pleasantly pleased with amount of places I can carry. Actually, the only place I couldn't carry that I went to is the nursing home that my mom is in. Other than that, everything else was good to go.

I think it is almost a non-issue.

Googe1227 Posted March 17, 2014 at 03:05 AM Posted March 17, 2014 at 03:05 AM I've carried everyday in Chicago for almost two weeks now. I've been presently surprised that I've only had to disarm once and that was to enter my sons high school which was NOT posted (yet). I've transported legally on CTA trains and buses. While technically disarming, it's still within reach if required. All in all not too bad so far. Just my two cents.
junglebob Posted March 17, 2014 at 03:07 AM Posted March 17, 2014 at 03:07 AM With the primary election this week I think it is worth noting that polling places are not always off limits. I realize they are often in city buildings, churches that might post, schools, fire stations, park buildings, and buildings that are private property. I guess there could be some differing opinions on whether a building is "under the control of a unit of local government" while it is being used as a polling place.
lilguy Posted March 17, 2014 at 03:50 AM Posted March 17, 2014 at 03:50 AM So we can drive just about anywhere carrying our sidearms in our cars. If we stay in our car on prohibited property we are ok and just have to conceal it in the car before exiting it. Is this correct?

lilguy Posted March 17, 2014 at 03:24 PM Posted March 17, 2014 at 03:24 PM What if any federal laws are we suject to.
WarCry Posted March 17, 2014 at 04:12 PM Posted March 17, 2014 at 04:12 PM What if any federal laws are we suject to. I could be wrong, and someone will correct me if so, but I believe the answer is "all of them." Unless IL has seceded and I didn't get the memo.
flw Posted March 17, 2014 at 04:22 PM Posted March 17, 2014 at 04:22 PM The copy and paste of no carry area's is helpful to many but to others there are far too many that are far from clear. What would be helpful is 23 examples of all the restricted area's. I understand many are obvious but there are many others that are not. Hence the the 23 examples of no carry zones. I don't have any questions on the zones but I think many don't want to ask about the legal description due to no wanting to look or sound dumb. They need the info even if not brave enough to ask "what does that really mean?" So simple examples of each. just my thoughts
junglebob Posted March 17, 2014 at 06:16 PM Posted March 17, 2014 at 06:16 PM So we can drive just about anywhere carrying our sidearms in our cars. If we stay in our car on prohibited property we are ok and just have to conceal it in the car before exiting it. Is this correct?Yes. Only federal prohibitions apply to the interior of the vehicle. I thought that the prohibition was for taking a weapon (pocket knife with 2 1/2 inch or longer blade too) into a federal facility. What I read said a facility is a building or part thereof owned or leased by the federal government. So the parking lot of say the federal building in Carbondale should not be off limits. There is a sign on the door but none on the lot.
III Posted March 17, 2014 at 06:28 PM Posted March 17, 2014 at 06:28 PM What if any federal laws are we suject to. Here is a good start to this question: http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/usa.pdf
IlliniBird Posted March 17, 2014 at 06:36 PM Posted March 17, 2014 at 06:36 PM What about a Rest Area along one of the Illinois interstates? I have read you cannot but I don't see anything in the law that prohibits that. Late at night, I'd like to carry in some isolated rest stop.

Rest area (outside your veh) = gun free zone.

I have read you cannot but I don't see anything in the law that prohibits that. Late at night, I'd like to carry in some isolated rest stop. Most rest areas are managed (owned) by the State. Therefore, the buildings would be prohibited areas.
Ricky Two Guns Posted March 17, 2014 at 09:34 PM Posted March 17, 2014 at 09:34 PM This is great we needed this!!!
IlliniBird Posted March 17, 2014 at 09:37 PM Posted March 17, 2014 at 09:37 PM Thank you for the explanation. Still isn't clear to me from the wording but I certainly won't carry there.
LeviSS Posted March 17, 2014 at 11:24 PM Posted March 17, 2014 at 11:24 PM (edited) Someone needs to make an legalize-to-English translation of these. I guess Post Offices are prohibited by #3? How are we supposed to know what’s controlled by the legislative or executive branch? Edited March 17, 2014 at 11:31 PM by LeviSS
Sigma Posted March 17, 2014 at 11:40 PM Posted March 17, 2014 at 11:40 PM I look at it positively although I live in Cook County and have to travel to Chicago. Places that are posted forces me to find alternate places which so fas has been better. Portillos is posted but Pops Beef tastes better and is cheaper. Buffalo Wild Wings is posted but I fell in love the cool ranch flavor at Wing Zone. Movie theater is posted, just got done building a home theater so I can watch movies naked.Grocery store is posted, I love Peapod way better now. I dont go to the Library, post office, anyway soo. In a list it looks bad but in reality it simply means you make some adjustments which could end up being better.
flw Posted March 18, 2014 at 12:22 AM Posted March 18, 2014 at 12:22 AM State Highways are still not clear as I know of several with rest stops with no buildings. Just places with a few picnic tables. This is State Highways not interstate highways.
