Objections by counties

I found this line from the article disturbing...

On Thursday, Dart’s office filed an objection after investigating a tip from one applicant’s neighbor that he was mentally ill, Bilecki said.

Don't say anything to your neighbors who they may turn you in! Maybe there is more to this story?

Taking this at face value, I think the citizen to whom that objection was directed would have a pretty strong case at the review board. If we start going down this road, all any of us need is a neighbor with a grudge, and we're toast.

So the way this reads, every objection is going to the review board. So...

1. Objections by local LE are automatically sent to the review board?

2. The ISP just happened to agree with all of the objections?

Or

3. This article is wrong?

It took me a bit to find the pdf marker over on the right side.

I never did find it, any clues to help an old fellow? Jim.

We need to start a "turn every county red" campaign. Too much yellow in that map.

Does anybody think that objections to 236 people that have their FOID cards is extremely high?

I think it might open up a can of worms. If they are unfit to carry are they also unfit to own? I think that might be where some of these are headed. The fact is if they are turned down by the board of review then they must be considered to be a danger to themselves or others. If they are a danger to themselves or others are they really appropriate to be a gun owner.

Why are they safe with a gun in their home, at the range or in the woods but not in public?

Exactly. But the problem with "objections" that I see is that they want to object on things other than convictions. There is a list of disqualifying conditions that bars people from getting a FOID or a CCL. If there was never a conviction or they want to make it more stringent, than the law is written, that is wrong.

There is a note at the bottom of the PDF stating "For a detailed, interactive version of this map, please visit suntimes.com." Has anybody been able to find this version of the map?

I heard on WBBM this morning that out of 33,000 applications only 200 odd were being challenged. These will be reviewed by the Appeals Board before they are officially rejected.

I can't get over how big of a deal they are making this out to be. Heaven sakes, graphs and charts showing apps by county and everything.

From the interactive map. "More than 33,000 Illinoisans have applied for concealed carry permits and law enforcement agencies in more than a dozen counties have objected to many of these applications"

Many? The wording of the writer and the facts do not agree. Semantics? Yes.... But to gun grabbers the wording "many" probably enforces the belief that CCWs are inherently evil and not to be trusted by the sheeple...

Curious how many applications from McLean County.... A lot thinner population than Kane (for instance) and a 12 to 1 ratio of objections. Kane has Aurora, Elgin, and the tri-cities so is fairly urban and would have about the same ratio of possible objections as Will, I would guess.

I will be curious to see how many officially get rejected.

If they all get rejected or all get approved -- either way -- something isn't working right...
