Trevis Posted December 13, 2014 at 05:20 AM Share Posted December 13, 2014 at 05:20 AM I put premium gas in my car for the first time in 4 years. $2.84 I hope it helps clean out the engine or something. Premium? Meh, it's high octane which is wasteful if you don't have a high compression engine. Want to clean stuff, use an additive, like SeaFoam. BIGDEESUL Posted December 13, 2014 at 06:31 AM Share Posted December 13, 2014 at 06:31 AM Yeah, that premium is going to do absolutely nothing for you. Unless you're driving a BMW M3. Then the horsepower will keep going up with the Octane rating. Higher Octane just means it takes more energy to ignite. That's why higher compression engines require fuel with a higher octane rating. If you have an engine that doesn't require premium, using it will have no effect. If you have an engine that does require premium, and you use regular, the knock sensors will pick up the detonation, the ecm will retard the timing, and you'll lose horsepower. So it goes one way, and not the other. I always use premium in my Charger. But the Mitsubishi gets regular. I have a 93 CAI tune in the chsrger that advances the timing to give me more horsepower. But the Mitsu gets the cheap stuff. That's all it needs. Sea foam is really great stuff. I use it all 3 ways. As a fuel additive, dumped into the intake to clean the top end, and poured into the crankcase to clean out the engine right before an oil change. It works wonders. If you have a car that barely gets driven over 30mph, and short trips to the store, and starts running like crap, pouring sea foam into the intake while revving the engine until it dies out, letting it sit for 20 minutes, then firing it up (smoking out the whole neighborhood, lol), then taking it for a run on the expressway blows all the carbon and gunk buildup out, and it runs like new. Lucas additives are great too. I add Lucas every time I fill up. The extra money spent on premium would have been better spent on a bottle of Lucas. narcoden Posted December 13, 2014 at 12:26 PM Share Posted December 13, 2014 at 12:26 PM First time I put sea foam in the intake I though for sure I ruined my truck. Lol... I fogged the entire neighborhood.

This is the most smartest idea that I've seen come out of the WM thread in a couple thousand post. Sea Foam does indeed cut carbon. I may have to foul up a big gun to see how it works... TRJ Posted December 16, 2014 at 04:18 PM Share Posted December 16, 2014 at 04:18 PM Don't the laws prohibit firing a gun in the city and burbs within x feet of another private property, effectively preventing this from even having any purpose? Bud Posted December 17, 2014 at 02:31 AM Share Posted December 17, 2014 at 02:31 AM Boy, you can't tell that from walking in one. The crowds used to be limited to just the weekends but now it seems every time i go into a superCenter they are mobbed. Gas at the Sam's Club in Roger's AR is down to $2.09 and a station in Oklahoma City has dropped the price to a $1.86 per gallon
