CHICAGO HANDGUN OWNER Posted December 29, 2013 at 11:20 PM Posted December 29, 2013 at 11:20 PM I had the Illinois concealed carry 16 hour class at Midwest Guns in Lyons, Illinois. It was a great course with 2 teachers who were encyclopedias of gun information and self defense experience! Terry Bell and Louis Feliciano. The 2 day course is really intense! The teachers take the time to answer all kinds of questions that many people were asking! I didn't think I would learn so much I just 16 hours. I highly recommend this class. The first day's class is held right down the street from the gun shop. The 2nd day is held at the shop. On the 2nd many people were asking questions which took up a lot of time so we had only 40 minutes for lunch. I recommend eating a big meal in the morning to get you through the day. I also recommend bringing a semi auto hand gun with 4-10 round magazines to expedite your range qualification.
thedriver Posted December 30, 2013 at 01:39 AM Posted December 30, 2013 at 01:39 AM I know Louis great guy he's was my firearms instructor when I was in the Illinois Police Reserve Academy
johnfran Posted December 30, 2013 at 09:55 PM Posted December 30, 2013 at 09:55 PM Both great guys, had them for my Chicago class a couple years back and my 8 hour ccw portion last month. Very knowledgeable and makes the class interesting
Praetor330 Posted January 3, 2014 at 09:24 PM Posted January 3, 2014 at 09:24 PM can you share the pricing and what day of the week these classes were held? I like this range a lot, great folks all around.
CHICAGO HANDGUN OWNER Posted January 3, 2014 at 10:25 PM Author Posted January 3, 2014 at 10:25 PM The class was $225.00 plus you have to provide your own 100 rounds of ammo. They have weekday classes and weekend classes. These guys actually train police officers so you know they know their stuff! You learn a lot about when you can legally use deadly force. Also you learn that if you use deadly force it is best to shoot to kill. No warning shots or shooting to injure.
Praetor330 Posted January 4, 2014 at 01:37 AM Posted January 4, 2014 at 01:37 AM sounds like you get a lot of range time. I just checked their website and now i can find the entire class info. http://www.midwestguns.com/illinois-concealed-carry/ I like that it requires a pistol & holster for drawing practice. I noticed a lot of curriculum didn't have any hands on learning. How did you like the teaching style and attitude? They keep you awake for the 16hrs?
Terry 9595 Posted January 4, 2014 at 03:07 AM Posted January 4, 2014 at 03:07 AM I want to thank all of you for your recommendations of our class. Louis and I hope that our small part in training may keep our past students a little safer. Thank you all again.
CHICAGO HANDGUN OWNER Posted January 4, 2014 at 04:47 PM Author Posted January 4, 2014 at 04:47 PM Yes they keep you awake for 16 hours. They show a lot of awesome videos of self defense and concealed carry situations to help you learn the law. Yes you practice drawing your gun from your holster but they also show you other options like vest carry. Not everyone can carry a gun in a holster practically like myself being a truck driver and furniture mover. For me a vest or pocket carry will work best.
