xbaltzx Posted February 22, 2011 at 02:45 AM Posted February 22, 2011 at 02:45 AM A woman today shot and killed a man who Chicago police said was breaking into her South Chicago neighborhood home on the city's Southeast Side. Link
Yas Posted February 22, 2011 at 03:18 AM Posted February 22, 2011 at 03:18 AM I wonder if her firearm was legally registered in the city? With compliance of all of Chicago's current laws.
pyre400 Posted February 22, 2011 at 04:49 AM Posted February 22, 2011 at 04:49 AM 2 blocks away from where that kid was throwing bricks at the elderly woman, and was then shot... You never like hearing anyone get shot, but better the bad guys than the good guys. Its looking like folks in chicago are taking their own protection seriously.
GarandFan Posted February 22, 2011 at 11:59 AM Posted February 22, 2011 at 11:59 AM Comments on the article are amazingly one-sided. Some a little crass, but all are supportive of the burglary victim. I wonder what snuffy thinks when he hears stories like these? As to whether the woman's gun was legal or not ... part of me (almost all) thinks "who cares?" I say that because I feel that gun possession should not be illegal, only unlawful use that is intentionally harmful or threatening to others should be illegal. In other words, the gun doesn't matter ... just that her use of it was lawful.
mauserme Posted February 22, 2011 at 01:12 PM Posted February 22, 2011 at 01:12 PM I wonder if her firearm was legally registered in the city? With compliance of all of Chicago's current laws.Even if not in compliance I think Hale Demar would protect her from prosecution under the ordinance (720 ILCS 5/24‑10) Sec. 24‑10. Municipal ordinance regulating firearms; affirmative defense to a violation. It is an affirmative defense to a violation of a municipal ordinance that prohibits, regulates, or restricts the private ownership of firearms if the individual who is charged with the violation used the firearm in an act of self‑defense or defense of another as defined in Sections 7‑1 and 7‑2 of this Code when on his or her land or in his or her abode or fixed place of business. Its the chink in Chicago's armor they hope everyone will forget.
lieut89 Posted February 22, 2011 at 01:44 PM Posted February 22, 2011 at 01:44 PM I've noticed that this story has been pushed out back and out of view. Pressure on the press from the powers that be? The original scoop that I had read stated that the intruder was armed with a handgun. This was later updated to armed with a tire iron, and then shuffled to the rear promptly. Edit: Picked up a Sun-Times on the way into work and this story didn't get printed at all. Seems slightly odd when the story of the spat over the family dog leads to murder suicide grabbed an entire half of page 6
oneshot Posted February 22, 2011 at 08:10 PM Posted February 22, 2011 at 08:10 PM I wonder what snuffy thinks when he hears stories like these? I'm sure he thinks that the homeowner should flee the house.
