xbaltzx Posted July 9, 2010 at 07:42 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 07:42 PM I saw a WGN reporter and camera guy.
Drylok Posted July 9, 2010 at 07:42 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 07:42 PM I was there until a few minutes ago. Nice crowd and a nice day for sure. I only saw a WBBM radio reporter and no other media reporters. I would guess about 400 or so. seems like there should have been more. Saw the some of the PO's clapping to some of the speeches...I saw no protesters while I was there. Well from a non chicago resident to a chicago resident, thank you for being there! wish there were more like you DL,
Nomad Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:04 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:04 PM This was a great event on a great day. I enjoyed walking around City Hall. I'm afraid to admit that I didn't chant much. I guess I'm shy when it comes to stuff like that. The images below were shot through my iPhone. http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/9379/safr1.jpgPlaintiff Otis McDonald speaking. http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/345/safr2.jpg http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/5011/safr3.jpg David and Colleen Lawson, plaintiffs welcoming back the Second Amendment.Valinda Rowe,IllinoisCarry spokesperson, speaking with the Lawson's Chicago Att. Nomad Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:09 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:09 PM Here's a short video I took on my iPhone near the end of our walk around city hall. http://www.sendspace.com/file/2668jn Concealed carry! Razor Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:18 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 08:18 PM I was there until 1 PM. Great crowd and great SAFR.
dan Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:35 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:35 PM I was there until a few minutes ago. Nice crowd and a nice day for sure. Well from a non chicago resident to a chicago resident, thank you for being there! wish there were more like you DL,I am also a non Chicago resident. I live in Will County but I work on North Michigan Ave. Fadder Snuffy was there last year and I did not see him this year, I was looking forward to that.
RacerDave6 Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:48 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:48 PM I was listening to Cisco Codo's live broadcast from the event site. He interviewed Molly B and was trying to get Otis McDonald on the air but they couldn't get it done before he went off. Too bad he was done at 11, it would of been nice to have the whole thing on the radio. Dave
Yas Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:54 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:54 PM Colleen Lawson, plaintiff speaking. Other plaintiffs, their Chicago attorney and emcee Cisco standing behind. Somehow KAP guns must have put up a target down Lasalle Street, but theres no holes in it yet. Sorry no snuffy this year Fox had a news camera there also
markthesignguy Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:55 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:55 PM I saw a WGN reporter and camera guy. I saw Theresa Gutierrez looking around. Channel 7 WLS-TV And I think NHK, I should have written it down, the reporter was speaking in Japanese.... I specifically went on snuffy patrols outside the perimeter... no contact.... In my opinion, I suspect what he heard At Dr. G's townhall gave him food for thought - under the subject of saving face. Perhaps he sensed that the winds had changed and if he persisted, his personal credibility could be weakened (or the size of his flock dwindle). I believe from what I heard in the past, that he kind of "finessed the situation" so that Cardinal George would not routinely rotate him out of St. Sabina's.
GarandFan Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:56 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:56 PM Sorry no snuffy this year I suspect he didn't come because that would have given the event media attention.
Chris Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:59 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 10:59 PM This probably won't be done uploading until later tonight but here is the link to my pictures that I'm uploading: http://picasaweb.google.com/cconmy/SAFR2010?authkey=Gv1sRgCL2wmtC-95aUFw
Yas Posted July 9, 2010 at 11:07 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 11:07 PM You can ask Molly or Mike for a explanation on this one ..... But the paperwork was in order. Its nice to deal with professionals.
soundguy Posted July 9, 2010 at 11:12 PM Posted July 9, 2010 at 11:12 PM Nice short piece on ABC7 at 6:00 tonight. It followed the cop shooting and a Double Dip Bank Robber piece. Wonderful yellow signs and a bit of Mr McDonald speaking were featured. Looks like it was a fun day! "July 9, 2010 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Gun rights advocates rallied in downtown Chicago Friday morning in support of their 2nd Amendment rights. They claim the city's new gun control ordinance is too strict. It prohibits gun owners from stepping outside their homes with a handgun -- and bans gun shops in Chicago. The ordinance was passed in response to a Supreme Court decision that made the city's handgun ban unenforceable. Otis McDonald, who sued the city for taking away his right to protect himself, spoke to the crowd. The city argues the ordinance balances the rights of individuals with the risks associated with "the proliferation of firearms."(Copyright ©2010 WLS-TV/DT. All Rights Reserved.0"
ishmo Posted July 10, 2010 at 01:20 AM Posted July 10, 2010 at 01:20 AM You can ask Molly or Mike for a explanation on this one ..... But the paperwork was in order. Its nice to deal with professionals. The pic was taken a couple of seconds after the Lt. picked his jaw up off the ground after Valinda told him we had a permit for a march around City Hall for 1:00pm. I'll leave any comment on the conversation to Mike and Valinda but I can tell you it was hilarious when she handed him the permit.
Lou Posted July 10, 2010 at 01:37 AM Posted July 10, 2010 at 01:37 AM It sure was a GREAT day and the Chicago officers handled it very professionally. The LT. was a true professional and made sure everything was in order. I have to get it off my camera but I have a photo of an uniformed officer shaking Mr. McDonald's hand and thanking him for all his hard work. It is g\gratifying to see all the hard work that some people put in work so danged well. THANKS TO ALL THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE!!!!

All the CPD crew was first rate as usual. State Troopers were supportive according to reports from other members. If only Dr G had had that kind of professionalism from the park district . BTW the Dr's still waiting for his $100 back.
Mr_Rich Posted July 10, 2010 at 03:08 AM Posted July 10, 2010 at 03:08 AM NHK, the Japanese TV station was there. My daughter pointed that out. I watched some coverage on channels 7 and 9 tonight and got to see my back and my daughter in a crowd shot. Great rally and I was glad to be there. Rich
Molly B. Posted July 10, 2010 at 03:36 AM Author Posted July 10, 2010 at 03:36 AM It was a GREAT day - the crowd was great, all the speakers were great, the police officers were wonderful to work with. . . and I have to say the march around city hall was unreal - tremendous, tremendous day!

Its nice to deal with professionals. That Lt. was a great guy, and he let us start the march a few minutes early. When it was over, he came by and we exchanged mutual thanks.
Mr. Fife Posted July 10, 2010 at 06:29 PM Posted July 10, 2010 at 06:29 PM It looks like a good time was had by all, the signs look really nice. I did hear about it on the radio several times in the afternoon. As someone who couldn't be there to participate or observe, it would be nice if the pictures had some captions that explain who or what we are looking at. Otherwise it just looks like a bunch of unknown people taking turns speaking into a microphone. Just saying.

I suppose that most of us here take for granted that everyone would know who the big dogs are. Good point- there are probably others wondering the same thing too and I will caption any pics that I upload in the future.
