He is a nut. The Obama campaign showed this. I have a minister/musician friend who is a great guy, but he is such a raving lib regarding guns (and lots of other things) that I don't even bother to discuss it with him. Stats and rational arguments mean nothing when people think like this. It is all about the emotion & hysteria of it all for them. And as for the lop-sided coverage, I have come to expect nothing less from most of the media. I will say that at least downstate, the Southern Illinoisan has been running some articles regarding the RTC bills, and the articles haven't been too bad for the most part. This has been encouraging. Thanks for posting this.

Bird76Mojo Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:09 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:09 AM I just saw this on WandTV. They stated that, these "assault weapons" were being used statewide to commit crimes. Funny thing, I haven't heard of any crimes that involved a shoot-out with the police or anyone being shot at or killed by these "assault weapons"... They displayed an AR-15 while doing the story, and said that these guns serve no purpose being allowed in Illinois, as they're not used for hunting, but only crimes. How about fun with family and friends at the local target range?? They failed to mention that. The AR-15 they displayed was manufactured in Illinois as they stated, but no mention of lost jobs bcause of the ban, etc.. Where do they get this crap? Just pull it out of their butts?? Can anyone cite a specific crime that the AR-15 was used in here in the state?? I can't.
Heavy Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:41 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:41 AM "We want the federal government to understand we hold them accountable for our children being shot down in America's streets." Children are being shot down in the streets because we have a culture that tells poor young men that money and fame are everything and most of them don’t have fathers to teach them differently. They have no mentors, no fathers and so they grow up fast with only each other to learn from. Drug cartels lure these young men in with promises of easy riches and a Scar Face life. They arm them and tell them to protect their territory and then they are soldiers in the drug war. What they don’t know is that they are fighting a losing battle and that the only end for that lifestyle is jail if they are lucky and the morgue if they are not. And sometimes children are being killed in the streets simply because they have no one to step in and shoot back for them. What we need are armed citizens, standing ready to defend all that is decent. But you guys already know that. Preaching to the choir, I know.
Matt H Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:42 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:42 AM Don, Your reply to the NBC story was fantastic.
Drylok Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:44 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:44 AM That's odd, someone demanding a ban on something that's already banned in Illinois.
Kipp Jones Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:49 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:49 AM Why do we not protest at the news stations about their coverage???
Heavy Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:50 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:50 AM Don, Your reply to the NBC story was fantastic. I agree...Bravo!
Sigma Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:50 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:50 AM This is perfect timing for them. We need to hammer our Reps with these same posts that you guys put here.
Drylok Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:52 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 03:52 AM Why do we not protest at the news stations about their coverage??? Because we're above that and we support the 1st amendment just as we do the 2nd.
Molly B. Posted March 19, 2010 at 04:01 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 04:01 AM Don, Your reply to the NBC story was fantastic. You are not kidding, it was superb!!! Too bad there isn't a way in their comment section to link to thephoto of the IGOLD march.
Drylok Posted March 19, 2010 at 04:20 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 04:20 AM Woe, Don your blood pressure come back down yet? That was absolutely fabulous!

markthesignguy Posted March 19, 2010 at 05:03 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 05:03 AM Don, Your reply to the NBC story was fantastic. I looked, it's gone, ZERO comments... Why do we not protest at the news stations about their coverage??? That's what I've been thinking, during SAFR, ALL street level studios of the news stations should be picketed during newscasts. When they complain, use the above coverage as the reason why. Tell them we will no longer be ignored. Not when 100 father flakey followers triggers news coverage. As for the timing, they KNEW they were going to force that old piece of junk back into play and planned the event as such. speaking of timing: CBS 5-7am......11-11:30am...5-5:30pm.....6-6:30pm (too dark)10-10:30pm? 108 N. State (overlooks Daley plaza)NBC 4:30-7am.....................4:30-5:30pm..6-6:30pm (too dark)10-10:30pm? 401 N. Michigan AvenueABC 5-7am......11-noon........4-5:30pm.....6-6:30pm (too dark)10-10:30pm? 190 North State Street (near Chicago Theater?) Of course the SCOTUS announcement of the McDonald Case results could set them all back on their ®ears, and make it impossible to avoid coverage of the issue.
Steve R Posted March 19, 2010 at 06:05 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 06:05 AM IGOLD marched on Springfield with thousands of people and got little news coverage. Phliger has 100 people and gets all the news stations. Why can't we get a permit and go into the lions den. March in front of the Daley Center! Would we get coverage then?

Will everyone be gentle with this one, please?
markthesignguy Posted March 19, 2010 at 09:00 AM Posted March 19, 2010 at 09:00 AM I guess we are "telegraphing our punches".... out in the open no less... I AM open to editing my post if requested. I remember years back, when ConcealedCarry.org had a Daley Center Plaza rally, on a SATURDAY, (the signs and I were there...) and that was the day and hour ("scheduled months before") that they choose to power wash the plaza, with LOUD Gasoline engine driven power washers - made quite a racket. I was there later than most collecting, sorting, bagging and bundling signs, and shortly after almost everybody had left, the workers finally "finished" and packed up their stuff... Without my stuff, I wandered over and tried to strike up an innocent conversation with one of the guys, and that's when I heard the "scheduled months ago" chestnut... SO, in Daley Center Plaza, expect NO LESS... In the Thompson Plaza, it's a different story. Plus the Daley Center Plaza gets scheduled out for events A LOT. The application, and requirements are online and downloadable.

Would we get coverage then? The Daley Center was looked at as the site of the 1st SAFR event but discarded after we found out about all the hoops to jump thru and the expense involved. As to the media coverage the answer is no, the Chicago media has an agenda, they cover what they're told to cover, and gun rights are not part of that agenda.

However, I stand amazed at what we have accomplished without the cooperation of the media!!!!We are relentless. Right to Carry is going to happen and Daley and his media can't stop it.
Steve R Posted March 19, 2010 at 10:49 PM Posted March 19, 2010 at 10:49 PM Sorry, I didn't know all this. I was thinking with my heart not my head.
pyre400 Posted March 19, 2010 at 11:23 PM Posted March 19, 2010 at 11:23 PM What if we were to peaceably assemble outside of one of the media outlets? I have other ideas too that I will not share here... There are ways of getting the media involved without their cooperation up front
Buzzard Posted March 20, 2010 at 12:25 AM Posted March 20, 2010 at 12:25 AM Sorry, I didn't know all this. I was thinking with my heart not my head. There's absolutely no need to apologize, Steve! There was no way you could have known that a Daley Center event had already been considered. That was information that only the planners of the Second Amendment Freedom Rally (SAFR) were privy to. As the late Paul Harvey said, as he closed his news commentary, "And now you know....the rest of the story." Welcome to the board, join in the discussions - and don't ever be afraid to ask questions.
