I didn't read the article but why do you need to use a red flag law when clearly a crime has been committed as the Sheriff claims
Just charge him for those crimes. This doesn't pass the sniff test, either the Sheriff is incompetent or is using the red flag law to circumvent this possible criminal's due process rights.
BINGO!

Wowwww......Gonna be a lot of tragic boating accidents mixed up in this scheme somewhere, somehow..........😭

My FFL has told me that they are required to report multiple handgun purchases within a 7 day period to Dart's office.
This sounds like a real overreach. How does the authority and recordkeeping of a federal FFL get hijacked by the Crook County sheriff's office?

Thanks for the reminder. Haven't been on here in a couple weeks. Saw renewal due tomorrow, so I re-upped. Sure hope y'all in Illinois can make some things work!

Right! And rights are rights. Personally, I'd rather see national media attention focused on upset lefties defending themselves with firearms, than on rednecks doing same. I don't think that's rocket science.

Hold on what the heck is going on here?
The 2nd amendment does not say you have to be good with a gun it says you have the right to defend yourself with a gun. At least they had guns to defend themselves and I am pretty sure they where glad they did. So I say put your finger wherever you want they did not end up shooting anybody so good job in my book (best case outcome).
The level of hypocrisy is amazing to me on this topic. Really a bunch of people who appear to be a mob shows up at your house and what is it you would expect to have happen. Invite them in for cookies?
I could care less what their politics and wealth status is they used the 2nd amendment as intended, under MO law which has a castle doctrine which allows them to defend property as well as life legally.
I applaud the level of guts it took to stand up to that mob which our politicians have had just about zero ability to protect us from. Have we not realized that this makes our point entirely for why the right to own firearms needs to be protected when the police will not show up to do anything.
Please think about the bigger picture here and try to put yourselves in the shoes of the people this happened to. It is very easy to say you would do the perfect thing but I have serious doubts that most people on this forum would react any better then these people did. I don't know that I would react any better or worse but I know better then to think I would from my basement on the internet. Surprise and unexpected events change anybodies plans to the point of failure. Having a general plan is a good thing but it all kind of starts out with have a gun and goes south from there.
I have said this before and will say it again.
Nothing good happens after the gun comes out period!
Less bad things can happen which is about the best outcome!
Guns do not make you have an energy shield that protects you from violence. If enough people are strongly motivated to hurt or kill you they will do it. The gun makes it less likely that they will be strongly motivated that is it nothing more.
I have no intent to direct this post at anyone in particular just at everyone in general. Really think through what you would do if a surprise ambush happens to you? I really don't think it will go the way you imagine because the important part of the previous sentence is the word surprise.
well said.
Yes, very well said.

Got my non-res renewal notice from Florida yesterday. Not necessary, since I got Tennessee lifetime about a year ago. Ahhhhhhhhhhh,,,,, Progress! Not missing my FOID! What a joke.

Molly, is there any need to start a GoFundMe to help in this effort? I'm sure there a lot of people here who would be willing to kick in a few bucks - myself included
Rather than a go fund me, we would rather see donations to IllinoisCarry marked Brown case.
Ah, that's good. thanks Molly

Regarding ammo sales to nonresidents, I don't think there's much "iffyness" about it. This is well discussed at the following link:

If it’s stupid, it’s Illinois law.
Here's how stupid it gets. I am a new resident of Tennessee. Sent my FOID and CCL into the ISP office. Sayonara.
But if I come to ILLannoy, and go to a store to buy ammo, I can, and don't need (or have) a FOID.
So I have more of a right to buy ammo in IL than an Illinois resident, who needs a FOID.
Now THAT'S stupid!

Just got it. Notice, it was filed in Madison County. The only winners will be, as usual, the vultures, er, I mean, lawyers.
-
OP, sounds like your buddy's lawyer did a great job. Can you share the lawyer's name with us?
-
Also, the CCL technically means nothing if you happen to be transporting a long gun.
What is your logic for making this claim? The FOID Act, in Section 2, says this:
Section 2. (a) (1) No person may acquire or possess any firearm, stun gun, or taser within this State without having in his or her possession a Firearm Owner's Identification Card previously issued in his or her name by the Department of State Police under the provisions of this Act.
And Section 2 ( c-5 ) refers to the above paragraph with this text:
Section 2. (c-5) The provisions of paragraphs (1) and (2) of subsection (a) of this Section regarding the possession of firearms and firearm ammunition do not apply to the holder of a valid concealed carry license issued under the Firearm Concealed Carry Act who is in physical possession of the concealed carry license.
The FCCL allows you to acquire or possess a firearm (including a long gun) without having the FOID card in your physical possession. There isn't much room for debate.
BINGO! Clarity. Crystal. Done!

Did address changes on 2 FOIDs for family members recently. They each took about 60 days, FWIW
Are rest stop buildings no longer "Criminal protection zones"?
in Illinois Right to Keep and Carry

If you manage to get caught carrying at a highway rest stop.......well, you were probably driving drunk anyway.
