Harris backed using ‘lists’ of gun owners to send police door-to-door to seize firearms

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris once threatened to use databases of gun owners to send police to their homes to confiscate firearms.

Ms. Harris described her gun control stance in August 2019 at a Democratic presidential primary forum that took place shortly after two deadly mass shootings in California and Texas.

She said she was “prepared to take executive action” to implement comprehensive background checks, crack down on gun dealers and ban the import of so-called "assault weapons".

Ms. Harris said she knew how to enforce tough gun laws because as California attorney general she allowed police to “knock on the doors of people” on a state list of prohibited gun owners and people deemed a danger to themselves and others.

“We sent law enforcement out to take those guns because we have to deal with this on all levels.”

Police invite residents to attend the town hall at 6:30 p.m. June 5 at the Wheaton Park District Community Center, 1777 S. Blanchard St.

The panel will feature Wheaton Police Chief Princeton Youker, Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 Assistant Superintendent Matt Biscan, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, and county health department Deputy Director of Behavioral Health Lori Carnahan.

Panelists will discuss how they are addressing school safety, mental health support and recent changes in criminal justice laws.

“It’s important when talking about the issues that affect our community to include these key partners in the discussion, because we are continuously working together to meet the needs of our residents,” Youker said in a statement.

The panel also will field questions from the public.

Project Safe Aurora Violence Prevention Coalition invites the community to join a pivotal event focused on gun violence prevention. “A Practical Approach to Gun Violence,” is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Prisco Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave. in Aurora.

This community event aims to unite a diverse mix of organizations, nonprofits and government agencies and the public — all dedicated to addressing and preventing gun violence.

This is an opportunity for community members to learn, engage and contribute to making Aurora safer. Attendees will have the chance to explore a resource fair where local organizations will showcase their services and initiatives to prevent gun violence, participate in a powerful panel discussion featuring individuals with lived experiences of gun violence, and engage directly with experts, advocates, and community members in meaningful conversations that inspire action and change.

“Youth in our community, or any community, should have every opportunity to succeed in life. Tackling issues, such as violence prevention, should remain a priority for all stakeholders,” said Simon Rodriguez Jr., youth services manager for the City of Aurora. “As a coalition of youth-advocates, we will continue to work across all areas, with as many partners, to ensure all youth can safely attend school, activities, play outdoors, and attend events while ensuring they have the tools to be successful members of our community. Federal lawmakers, candidates for state and county offices, and a witness to the mass shooting at Highland Park's Independence Day parade gathered Sunday in Lake Zurich's Paulus Park to rally for sweeping gun law reform.

Political leaders who spoke said the climate is favorable for gun law reform.

"Increasing numbers of not just Democrats, but independents and moderate Republicans, want to see common sense gun reform. And that's exactly what they're going to get," said U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat from Schaumburg.

U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky told the crowd the politics of guns has changed.

"For the first time in three decades, we were able to pass gun legislation," the Evanston Democrat said in reference to the Safer Communities Act.

Not shotguns, not handguns not magazines, but there is some debate about magazines the way the component's part is worded. 

Law Weapons will have a rally at their shop this saturday the City council meets on Tuesday night for the reading, debate and possible passage of the ban. 

The League of woman voters and Moms have been mad since we out numbered them last month and they are working email chains to get people there at 5 to block progun people from being able to get in. they are also hoping to get everyone to sign up to speak to block us by chewing up the time. 

If you can make please come out to the village meeting Tuesday, we hear that they are communicating with other towns in hopes to pass a rash of similar ordinances quickly to prevent us from rallying opposition.

Saturday's March For Our Lives rally in Downers Grove was a grim reminder of the cost of gun violence.

In 2018, hundreds turned out for the first March For Our Lives rally at Downers Grove High School. That time, it was in response to the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 17 students were killed. Hundreds returned again to the same parking lot in Downers Grove Saturday echoing their call for an end to gun violence -- this time 18 days after 19 elementary elementary school students and two teachers were killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

"I hate it," rally organizer Jax West said when asked about being back for a second rally. "This is enough ... I'm upset at having to be here."

Speaker after speaker reiterated the same cry as they called for changes to gun laws.
