Hey All,

I currently have a CCL. I did some research and it appears that simply filing for and getting approved for SSID is not grounds to revoke your FOID or CCL.

-I am not adjudicated a mental defective by a court or anyone at all.

-I don't have an intellectual disability.
-Obviously no in-patient hospital stays
-Not a danger to myself or others (clear and present danger)

So, just to check with you folks, especially @Molly B., would it be safe to say that getting disability benefits for a mental health condition is not, on its own, grounds for FOID/CCL revocation?

For what it's worth: It's for depression and ADHD. Not psychosis, bipolar disorder, etc.

Thank you.

After a 40 some year hiatus I’m headed back to Church. Thanks to this awesome forum I’m aware of the legal aspects of doing so, but I’m curious to see if this is a common practice among legal concealed carriers.

As a kid I’d never think anyone would carry a weapon during Church, but sadly this isn’t that world. And I have zero issue with doing so on a religious level, but that is probably not a discussion needed here.
Pritzker's new gun storage law is now in effect, but I wonder how it will be enforced. ISP raiding homes in the middle of the night? Or only going after someone who has legally used their gun at home in a self defense shooting who are then found to not own a proper storage container for when the gun is not being carried?

Qwentin Howard, a registered gun owner who holds both a Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card and a concealed carry license, alleges in a federal lawsuit that Officers Julian Irving and Sarah Abuosba pulled him over and placed his weapon in his trunk during the stop. Howard claims two bullets were missing when he retrieved the gun from his trunk after the stop.

He then drove to the Wentworth (2nd) District station, 5101 South Wentworth Avenue, to file a report about the missing ammunition. ...

Howard alleges that when he arrived at the station, he met with Irving and Abuosba, along with their supervisor, Officer John Sanders, and informed them he would be recording the interaction to protect himself. Sanders then allegedly ordered Howard to produce a physical FOID card, despite Howard having already shown Irving an electronic version during the traffic stop earlier that day.

When Howard insisted that an electronic card was legally sufficient, as it is under Illinois law, Sanders allegedly told him, "Well, you have a problem now because you're accusing my officers of stealing your bullets."

Howard alleges he apologized if he was mistaken, explaining he simply did not want any bullets linked to him turning up later. Sanders allegedly ordered Irving to detain Howard. Howard was handcuffed and arrested. Abuosba told Howard he was being arrested because he "wanted to escalate the issue and make it bigger than it had to be," the lawsuit claims.

Howard was charged with unlawful use of a weapon for allegedly failing to carry a physical FOID card. The charges were later dismissed, according to the lawsuit.

Howard's suit alleges First Amendment retaliation, malicious prosecution, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He contends the arrest was punishment for exercising his constitutional right to petition the government by trying to file a police report.

U.S. District Judge Manish Shah ruled this month that Howard's retaliation and malicious prosecution claims may proceed. The judge found it plausible that the officers lacked probable cause to arrest Howard, noting that Irving had already seen Howard's electronic FOID card during the traffic stop and that Illinois law explicitly permits electronic FOID cards. The judge dismissed the intentional infliction of emotional distress claim, finding that while the alleged conduct may have been improper or illegal, it did not rise to the legal threshold of "extreme and outrageous."

Officers were dispatched around 3:43 a.m. after 911 callers reported gunfire and a car alarm ringing in the 9400 block of South Indiana Avenue. A short time later, a woman called to say her boyfriend had shot someone trying to steal their car.
...
Police said the 58-year-old car owner heard his alarm sounding and stepped outside to investigate. He found the driver's side window of his white Honda Accord shattered, and two males inside the vehicle. One of them displayed a gun, prompting the man, who has a valid FOID and concealed carry license, to fire, according to CPD

The second offender ran east and got into a gray Dodge Caravan that continued east on 94th Street, police said.

CCL-holder, not driver-by, shoots carjacker

CWBChicago said:→
...
Kamari Bonslater, 17, of Steger, was already on pretrial release for allegedly possessing a machine gun and a stolen vehicle at the time of the shooting, prosecutors said.

The charges stem from a failed carjacking on September 7 in the 6700 block of South Cregier. Chicago police initially described the incident as a drive-by shooting that left a 16-year-old boy in critical condition with three gunshot wounds and a 34-year-old woman shot twice in the leg. It now turns out that Bonslater, who has since celebrated his 17th birthday, was the critically wounded teen.

According to a detention petition, the episode did not play out the way CPD first believed.

Instead, prosecutors say, the victim, a 34-year-old woman, and a 31-year-old female companion were sitting in the victim's parked car when "multiple individuals" approached and struck up a "brief conversation."

Prosecutors said Bonslater tried to yank open the passenger door while pointing a gun at the women. The victim, a licensed concealed carry holder, reached for her own firearm, prompting Bonslater to shoot her in the leg before she returned fire, hitting him multiple times, according to prosecutors. She then sped away from the scene.
...
The video also shows several accomplices carrying him into an alley. Officials said Bonslater and at least two of those accomplices, who remain at large, fired at the fleeing car.

Bonslater, who has the word "Murda" tattooed on his neck, is charged with attempted second-degree murder, attempted vehicular hijacking, and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon.

Judge Susana Ortiz ordered him detained pending trial.
I recently had the occasion to go to a venue in Madison, WI that unbeknowst to me not only banned firearms, but had metal detectors at the entrance. But since a "No Guns" sign in WI does not have the power of the law as it does in IL, all I was asked to do was to return to my car to leave the firearm there. I think that it would be a win-win for those against concealed carriers on their property if the law required every entity that puts the sign on their doors also clearly and prominently state such on their website. In that way concealed carriers would be doubly informed of the restriction, and potential visitors would be made aware of the organization's desire to have patrons defenseless before they ever arrive at the entrance. It really is a pain to have to walk back to where a car is parked, and then to discreetly put your gun in the car without making it obvious and thereby inviting the local thug to break into your car.

To be honest, the venue I refer to above, in Wisconsin, had the metal detectors turned off, but I didn't know that. My hesitation in walking through the detector is what made the security staff focus on me, and when I was questioned, I did not deny that I was armed. My mistake might have been more consequential had it occurred in Illinois.

Good morning, I was wondering about a situation from yesterday and if anyone could answer my question. So I went to purchase a gun and that’s when I realized the address on my foid was different than the one on my license. They made copies of both and went ahead with the process like no big deal. Is this something to worry about being denied the purchase? I now know I have to get it right but am I a day late and a dollar short here?
