When I called the number to check the status of my application they said the current processing time was 6-8 weeks. I think they may be slowed a bit since they dropped the cost of the permit down to $112 and folks were still sending them checks or money orders for $117....then again it could be because there are a large amount of apps to process.

If you happen to be going to Pa you could get their LTC, it is only about $26 and is good for 5 years. You used to be able to get it by mail but that changed in 2011. My wife probably got one of the last ones issued by mail. Wisconsin accepts the Pa LTC, no training is required to get it. It is also good in states surrounding Illinois, except Michigan and Minnesota.
Remember the 1991 Luby Cafeteria Massacre of the Unarmed (Kileen, Texas before Texas Concealed Carry) Do we need 23 people to die in a similar incident before we're allowed effective self defense?

Anyway, mine is only 60, but my prints are on file recently in Florida because of my LE stuff, and I now have a Florida address, so I didnt have to do the card this time.
I still wonder how long it is going to take to get it back. Mailed it last Friday, still waiting for them to cash the check.

Anyway, I mailed my renewal on the 11th and they cashed the check (or at least it hit my bank) today, coincidentally, the same day that my FOID check hit the bank.

Sometimes you just have to breakdown and open carry. It seems odd to me to be so picky about reciprocity in a state where OC requires no permission at all.

The problem was in the way the Nevada law was written; Florida's permit program is administered by the Department of Agriculture, which is not consistent with the Nevada law on issuing authorities.

I went back and found it. It looks like it was a combination of not having a live fire requirement and the license lasting 7 years, vice the NV license lasting 5 years. No mention of a problem with D of Ag running the program.

Nevada Will No Longer Recognize Utah and Florida Right-to-Carry Permits
Thursday, June 25, 2009
Effective, July 1, Nevada will no longer recognize Right-to-Carry permits from Utah or Florida. They have, however, added Ohio and West Virginia as recognized states.
Each May, the Nevada Department of Public Safety conducts an audit of states and their Right-to-Carry laws for the purpose of determining which states it will recognize.
The Nevada DPS dropped Utah because it does not have a live fire requirement, which is a part of Nevada's training requirements. When the Nevada DPS first began its state by state audit of Right-to-Carry laws in 2007, DPS admitted to NRA representatives that they overlooked the live fire training requirement. After further review, they determined that Utah wasn't similar enough to keep it on the list of recognized states.
Florida will no longer be recognized because its permits are now valid for seven years instead of five.
The Nevada DPS and the Nevada Sheriffs and Chiefs will be hosting their annual Right-to-Carry forum in Carson City in August with a teleconference feed to Las Vegas. We encourage all members to attend this informational meeting. Details will be forthcoming.

I am not sure if the links are still working, I doubt it since they are from 2009, but I remember getting that NRA-ILA alert when this happened.

I ask because I'm about to apply this week... One small concern is that I took the hunters safety class back in the 80s as a teen, and the original card is long gone... The IL DNR website doesn't go back that far so I had to request a manual search, they found the records and entered them into the online database but I'm less then impressed with the credentials
Seems hokey looking to me so I'm curious if this will pass scrutiny or not, regardless of it being the 'official' document?
Mostly want to know if anyone else has used the website print out?

If no one has done it I will be contacting FL directly to inquire... I can't believe I'm the only one that has considered or used the hunters safety class credentials and/or printed them off the DNR site to get a FL permit, so I expect someone should have some input...
As for training I agree that a refresher is a good thing, I shoot all the time so I'm quite fresh but training or instruction never hurts, but at this point I'm not interested in investing in additional training until the new IL requirements are nailed down, that way I can do it once, instead of possibly twice...

Or if you'd rather, I'll call down there myself. Tried last week and couldn't get anyone, but I'll sure try again if you don't have time.

Time is always valuable for me, I play Mr. Mom during the day but this week both of my daughters (11 months and 3 years) are under the weather so the chance of me making a phone call this week is nil as they seem to have a crisis every 30-60 seconds that requires my attention... I'm not going to get on the phone until I know they will afford me that 15 minutes to half an hour and that won't be until next week at the soonest...
So feel free to jump ahead of me...

From what I understand is that they will not honor it if the permit holder is a PA resident (they dont want PA residents to get out of state licenses to bypass the instate permit process.....pushed hard for by philly pd). There has been no clarification regarding residents of other states.
