Action Needed!!

Several good bills and several bad ones will be heard and voted on in IL General Assembly committees this week. Phone calls, faxes and emails are in order.

Agriculture and Conservation Committee - Wednesday, Feb.18 2:00 pm License to Carry bills HB245 sponsored by Rep. John Bradley, HB367 sponsored by Rep. Bill Mitchell, and HB462 sponsored by Rep. Brandon Phelps will be heard in the Ag & Conservation Comm. which is chaired by Rep. Phelps.  Other bills being heard the same day:
HB171 - No waiting time when trading a working firearm for another
HB172 - Preemption
HB173 - Transportation preemption
HB234 - Maintaining private transfer records for 5 yrs. instead of 10

We fully expect these bills to pass in this committee.  However, there are three Representatives on the committee that need to hear from all Illinois Second Amendment supporters. Please call newly elected Rep. John Cavaletto.  Let's start his legislative career off right by letting him know how important the Second Amendment is to Illinoisans - let's introduce ourselves, give him a  warm Illinois firearm owner welcome, and encourage him to support these bills with a yes vote.  The other two representatives, Rep. Flowers and Rep. Hamos, have a record of voting against our rights.  Please call them, let your voice be heard - politely but firmly let them know we expect our rights to be upheld with their yes vote.

Legislative Update

HB 48 - Bans Private Sales - and places unfair burden on FFL dealers.  Passed out of the House Executive Committee last week with a 6-4 vote. This same bill  was defeated during the last legislative session with only a vote or two in our favor.  NOW is the time to call your state representative and urge them to vote no when this bill reaches the floor for a vote.

Two more anti-gun owner bills will be heard in the House Executive Committee this week and committee members need our phone calls before 10:00 am Wed. Mar.4, 2009.

HB 845 Report Lost or Stolen Firearm - This bill penalizes the innocent victim of a stolen or lost firearm and does absolutely nothing to reduce crime or deter criminals.

HB 867 AGG BATTERY -Enhanced penalties for firearms on public transportation - Provides for enhanced penalties for carrying or possessing firearms or other dangerous weapons in a conveyance owned, leased, or contracted by a public transportation agency or on a public way within 1,000 feet of the real property comprising a public transportation facility.

This bill would make it a Class 3 felony to carry or transport a legally owned firearm while passing within 1,000 ft. of a public bus stop, a residential public housing unit or agency!

START CALLS/FAXES ON MONDAY THE 9TH!!

The LTC bill SB1976, sponsored by Senators Jones and Rutherford, is scheduled to be heard in the Senate Public Health committee on Tues, March 10 at 1:00 PM. This is the Senate bill that mirrors HB462. The Public Health committee is a very hostile committee for this bill, and it is not expected to pass. In spite of that, we would like to innundate every one of those committee members with phone calls and faxes beginning on Monday, the 9th and continuing to Noon on Tuesday the 10th. We must show these committee members that we are serious about LTC, we are aware of the bills as they pass through the legislature and that we will support them, regardless of their perceived chances.

Please call both their Springfield and district offices. If there is a fax number available, fax a short note in support of SB1976. Make your calls and faxes cordial, concise, and to the point. The people that answer the phone are just doing their job, and may or may not have an opinion on the bill, so don't go into detail about your support unless asked. You may be asked to supply your name, address and a phone number if you'd like a call back.

For those of you new to this process (I was scared to death the first time I called!) this might serve as an example for you:

"Hello, I'm Tim Bowyer of Shelbyville, IL. I'm calling this morning to ask Senator Delgado to support Senate Bill 1976 when it comes before the Public Health Committee. "

License to Carry bill SB1976, the only LTC bill to be introduced in the IL Senate and sponsored by Senators Jones and Rutherford, is scheduled to be heard in the Senate Public Health committee on Tues, March 10 at 1:00 PM. HB 48 - Bans Private Sales - to even loan a firearm while hunting or targeting shooting the two parties would have to go through a licensed dealer to process the loan.

HB 48 passed out of committee and is on the House docket for second reading and lists a host of sponsors from the Who's Who list of anti-rights Chicago/Cook Co. regulars.  This same bill  was defeated during the last legislative session with only a vote or two in our favor.  We must not let up on this bill. NOW is the time to call your state representative and urge them to vote no when this bill reaches the floor for a vote.

HB 48 could possibly be the biggest defensive battle we face this session.  We have a contact list of Reps. for whom  there is reason to think they could vote either way on HB 48. We need to start the calls, faxes, letters, and office visits right away, and keep the pressure on.

MARCH ON STATE CAPITOL!
Law-abiding, Second Amendment Supporters
filled the streets of Springfield chanting
CONCEALED CARRY NOW!

On Wednesday March 11th Second Amendment supporters from all over the state of Illinois gathered at the Prairie Capitol Convention Center for Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day. The huge crowd was welcomed by ISRA 1st Vice President Mike Weisman.  Mr. Joe Tartaro, president of the Second Amendment Foundation, gave the enthusiastic and inspired crowd a brief history lesson of the gun-rights movement right up to the current battle we face in Illinois.

A roaring standing ovation and thunderous applause erupted when ISRA Ex.Director Richard Pearson presented Rep. Brandon Phelps, sponsor of many pro-Second Amendment bills including license to carry bills HB 462 and HB 2257, with the ISRA legislator of the year award.

Todd Vandermyde, NRA's Springfield lobbyist informed the crowd of proposed legislation that poses a grave threat to gun owners then spurred the crowd on with a rousing call to the good citizens of Illinois to get involved and let our legislators know where we stand.

IllinoisCarry spokesperson Valinda Rowe brought the crowd to their feet once again when she urged the women of IGOLD to join her in calling on Gov. Pat Quinn to support the women of Illinois in their need  for an adequate means of self-defense through a license to carry law.

The march down Capitol Avenue with flags unfurled, banners held high, and thousands upon thousands of voices shouting out "concealed carry now" was absolutely spectacular - every legislator in the Capitol building had to have heard the message from the street!

After a brief rally at the Lincoln steps the huge crowd divided themselves into groups to enter the Capitol through the five available security check points. City and Capitol security personnel deserve our sincere thanks and appreciation for their expediency and courtesy in getting us through the parade route and into the Capitol in such a safe and timely manner!

The entire Capitol grounds and building, the tunnels,and the Stratton building were literally packed with Second Amendment supporters busily calling on and delivering lobby cards to the President of the Senate John Cullerton, Speaker of the House Mike Madigan and individual representatives and senators all throughout the Capitol complex.

IGOLD 2009 has come and gone but our work continues - we must be persistent in monitoring legislation and contacting legislators in the coming weeks/months.  We must not let up in our phone calls, faxes, and emails to our legislators.  Stay tuned to IllinoisCarry.com and watch for the Firearm Alerts when action is needed!

Women of IGOLD Call on Governor's Office!

The women attending IGOLD were provided a letter to sign and deliver to Gov. Pat Quinn. The letters urged the Governor to come to the aid of women rendered defenseless by IL state law prohibiting the carrying of a firearm for self-defense.

Unfortunately the Gov. was not available but his Chief of Staff Jerry Stermer graciously made an appearance before the large crowd of women and listened intently as a statement on behalf of the women was read by IllinoisCarry.com spokesperson and IGOLD coordinator Valinda Rowe.  The ladies also presented a plaque to be given to Gov. Quinn.  The plaque depicted the self-defense tools recommended to the women of IL on the Illinois State Police website: a plastic rat tail comb, a car key, and a tongue depressor to aid in gagging oneself to vomit.

Chief of Staff Stermer assured the women he would relay the women's statement and the plaque to the governor.

IGOLD thrilled to have NRANews along for the ride!

Cameron Gray, Executive Producer of NRANews.com, and cameraman Mike Aitken made a special trip to Illinois for IGOLD.  The two adventurous men flew into Chicago, boarded the IGOLD bus in Rosemont, and interviewed Second Amendment supporters as they all rode down to Springfield.  Cameron and Mike made the march to the capitol and spent the afternoon getting great interviews with IGOLD participants and legislators.  Coverage of the event was aired on the Cam & Company NRANews program live that night and recapped the following day.  You can see some of the excellent work they did by viewing videos Cameron has posted on YouTube - Part 1 and Part 2.

Sponsor Says FOID Card Holders Educated Him

Rep. Ken Dunkin of Chicago has tabled a bill he sponsored that would have required Illinois gun owners to have $1 million in liability insurance. In an interview with Cameron Gray of NRANews.com Dunkin said the people of Illinois educated him on the ramifications of this bill and he is listening.  See this interview at the NRA links posted above.

Bill Banning Private Sale of Firearms
Could Be Voted on This Week

HB 48 banning the private sales of firearms could be voted on this week in the Illinois House.  With 31 sponsors from the Illinois Who's Who list of gun control and pressure from the Cook County anti-gun lobby this bill is at the top of the gun grabbers wish list.  They are sorely needing a victory if they are to keep their anti-Second Amendment efforts alive so they want this one bad.

Rumor has it that an effort is being made to bus a group down to the Capitol to lobby for this bill - we daresay they will not come close to all the thousands of Second Amendment supporters at IGOLD!  However, they do seem poised to pull out all the stops to push this bill through - so let's get on the phones and remind our legislators we are watching and urging them to vote no on HB 48.  For a list click Legislators and phone numbers and go to post #69.

Fails to Pass Out of Senate Committee

The media would have us believe our only chance of passing a license to carry bill this session died in committee this past week - but it's only wishful thinking on the part of the anti-rights gun control crowd.

While SB1976 was the only license to carry bill introduced in the Senate it was a duplicate of one of the House bills already passed out of committee and is up for Second Reading.  The media chose not to report that a FOURTH license to carry bill HB2257 sponsored by Rep. Brandon Phelps passed out of House Agriculture and Conservation committee.  This bill contains many of the measures requested by the IL Sheriff's Association.  So while license to carry has a long uphill battle ahead the reports of its demise is greatly exaggerated

Dear Rep. Bellock,

I would like to update you on a few facts concerning HB48 that you might not know.

There are currently NO FFL holders within the city of Chicago.   Requiring the services of an FFL where none exist is just as good as a total ban and encourages undocumented transfers – the exact opposite of the intent of the bill.

The bill limits the fee charged to $10. The going rate for the service is between $20 to $45 depending upon location.  Naturally the higher prices are closer to Chicago where there is no one to do the required paperwork.   The transfer requires that federal form 4473 be filled out for each firearm, an 8 page form that is not at all user friendly.  On top of the transfer fee there is an additional $2 charge the state charges for the background check phone call.    
Limiting what can be legally charged to less half the going rate for the amount of work required will discourage FFL holders from providing the required services.  Once again encouraging people to perform undocumented transfers.

Will criminals who buy and sell guns illegally now obey this law?   Of course not.
How will burdening law abiding citizens reduce violent crime?   It won’t.

I would urge you to vote against HB48 which will only hurt honest people and do nothing to reduce violent crime.  It is just one more attack on law abiding citizens without making us any safer.

Legislative Action:  A Glance Back at the Past Week

Where do Illinois Second Amendment supporters stand after IGOLD and the following deadline for bills to pass out of House and Senate committees?  We definitely won a few victories - the bill calling for automatic weapon safe zones (whatever that means in a state where it is already unlawful for citizens to own full auto firearms), a bill calling for the eviction of FOID card holders for FOID violations, and one of the worst of its kind HB 4243 a bill to create a database of ALL firearm sales all failed to make it out of committee.  HB 687 calling for all IL gun owners to have $1million liability insurance passed out of committee but the sponsor has tabled the idea after "being educated" as he put it by the gun owners of this state.

While these bills were returned to the House rules committee and are somewhat off the table for the time being they cannot be considered entirely dead - rules can be waived or their contents can be inserted into a "shell" bill and placed back on the table so we will need to keep a close eye on them.

The good news in the Senate is that SB 1275 one-gun-a-month, SB 1721 "assault" weapons ban, and SB1848 calling for handgun dealers to have a state license in addition to the already mandated federal license all failed to make it out committee.

The not so good news is that these bills have corresponding counterparts in the House that are alive and well which we must continue to fight vigorously by calling our representatives and urging them to vote no if the following are called for a vote:

HB 165 "Assault" weapons ban - Rep. Acevedo - status: third reading
HB 180  Handgun Dealer License - Rep. Graham - status: third reading

The Question Most Asked: Where Do We Stand with License Carry?

As the dust settles after all the hubbub and rush to get bills out of committee, we can now sharpen our focus on the four remaining License to Carry bills introduced in the House:
HB 245 - Rep. John Bradly -  issuing agency state police, status: second reading
HB 367 - Rep. Bill Mitchell - issuing agency county sheriff, status: second reading
HB 462 - Rep. Brandon Phelps - issuing agency county sheriff, status: third reading
HB 2257 - Rep.Phelps - issuing agency IL Dept.of Natural Resources, status: second reading

Bills on second reading can be amended, bills on third reading can be called for a vote. Sponsors are now busy recruiting additional sponsors, amending the bills as needed, and looking for the necessary votes to guarantee passage.  With all the opposition License to Carry faces from Chicago/Cook Co. legislators we have a tough battle ahead - very tough - but we know we stand in the right and we will prevail!

Looking Ahead:  Bill Banning Private Sale of FirearmsCould Be Voted on Anytime

HB 48 banning the private sale of firearms stands at third reading and could be voted on anytime in the Illinois House. Capitol Commentary by NRA lobbyist Todd Vandermyde on the Illinois State Rifle Associations website reports that the bill's sponsor Rep. Harry Osterman of Chicago was somewhat embarrassed this past week when his plans to call the bill for a vote while an anti-rights group from Chicago was in the Capitol still lacked the necessary votes to guarantee passage. Last session we beat this bill with a 58-58 vote - with a vote tally so close to costing us the right to privately transfer our firearms it is CRITICAL that we maintain the pressure on our legislators to oppose this and any other anti-Second Amendment bill that makes to the floor for a vote!

Second Amendment supporters will be coming from all over the state to celebrate the first anniversary of U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the DC vs Heller case. This historical ruling finally and firmly rules the right to keep and bear arms is an INDIVIDUAL  right.  Since that ruling several Illinois cities have dropped their ban on handgun ownership - Evanston, Wilmette, and Morton Grove which was the first city in Illinois to ban handguns. Oak Park and Chicago however still continue to deny their citizens this constitutional right.

We invite all who support the Second Amendment to join us in the heart of Chicago where law abiding citizens are still denied the right to own a handgun for personal protection.

Two More IL Counties Pass License to Carry Referendum with Overwhelming Majority!

Johnson  and Pope County, Illinois join10 other counties who have passed a License to Carry Advisory Referendum asking, "Should the Illinois General Assembly enact legislation providing for the licensing of qualified, law abiding, and trained adults to carry a firearm for personal protection and other lawful purposes?"

Johnson County voters approved the referendum with 84.41% voting in favor of the referendum and Pope County voters passed the referendum with 90% voting in favor.

The two counties join ten other counties that approved the measure in the general election last November:  Woodford, Ogle, Crawford, Jasper, Jefferson, Franklin, Saline, Greene, Effingham,
and Union.

Legislative Update

Bills we opposed:
HB 12  one handgun a month, defeated by 54-61.
HB 48  ban private sales of firearms, defeated 55-60-1
HB 165 ban "assault weapons", returned to Rules committee.
HB 179 place greater restrictions on gun storage, defeated 54-62.
HB 180 require state licensing of firearms dealers, returned to Rules.
HB 845 revoke FOID cards for failing to report a lost or stolen handgun, returned to Rules.
HB 687 require $1 million liability insurance for gun owners, tabled by sponsor.
HB1966 ban certain firearms by zip code in  Chicago, returned to Rules.

Bills we supported:
HB 172 preempt Cook County from banning gun sales, returned to Rules committee.
HB 173 transportation of firearms preemption, returned to Rules committee.
HB 182 to protect persons who possess a gun in a legal dwelling, passed by 72-45 and moves to the Senate.   (IL law states a FOID card holder may carry a loaded firearm in their own home, on their own property, and in their place of business.  This bill if passed would mean one could also be in possession of a loaded firearm if visiting someone else's home.)

While bills returned to the House rules committee and are somewhat off the table for the time being they cannot be considered dead - rules can be waived or their contents can be inserted into a "shell" bill and placed back on the table so we will need to keep a close eye on them.

The Question Most Asked:
Where Do We Stand with License Carry?

The one License to Carry bill that made it to third reading in the House did not garner the 3/5's majority vote for passage out of that chamber and was returned to Rules committee.  Efforts to collect the necessary votes/sponsors for LTC will continue throughout the rest of the 2 year session and when ready a LTC bill can be inserted into a shell bill and considered for passage.

With all the opposition LTC faces from Chicago/Cook Co. legislators we have a tough battle ahead - very tough - and it may be time to consider a different strategy.  Developing news about that strategy to come in the weeks ahead.

Douglas County Board to Consider Passage of
Pro-Second Amendment/Concealed Carry Resolution

88 counties have passed the Pro-Second Amendment Resolution and Douglas County Board members may just make that 89.  After adding a clause in support of license to carry the board passed the Pro-Second Amendment Resolution out of  committee at their March meeting and will present it before the whole board for a vote on Wednesday April 15, 2009.

ANTI-SECOND AMENDMENT U.S. REP. MARK KIRK
TO HOLD TOWN HALL MEETING
BE THERE!

Second Amendment patriots turned out in great number this past week for the Wheaton public forum on gun violence sponsored by IL Council Against Handgun Violence and IL League of Women Voters.  Although organizers changed the format at the last minute in an attempt to squelch the voice of Second Amendment supporters we still managed to be heard!

We have another important opportunity to be heard at an open town hall meeting scheduled by U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk this Saturday in Palatine. Kirk, (who doesn't seem to know or care about his own party's platform which supports the Second Amendment) is a constant threat to firearm owners everywhere - evidenced by his push to renew the Clinton era "assault weapons" ban.

With increasing speculation that he may make a bid to run for IL governor or a U.S. Senate seat we need to make it clear that he does not represent us nor does he uphold his own party platform!

Please print as many flyers as you can to hand out at the meeting -  make sure Mr. Kirk gets one - because he sure doesn't seem to know his party platform or the constitution like he should!

You are encouraged to attend this hearing if you are available to do so. Second Amendment supporters will be meeting in the Stratton Cafeteria at 8 am to fill out witness slips and going over to the Capitol at 8:30. Please wear your IGOLD Second Amendment shirt, pin, or sticker if you have one. You do not have to give oral testimony in order to sign a witness slip.

Please keep in mind that this is to show support for the bill. Our lobbiest will be doing an excellent job of presenting our side, we do not want to make their jobs difficult by displaying rowdy behavior or verbal outbursts. Keep in mind you will be representing all gun owners. We do not want or need the kind of reaction displayed by the one gentleman at the Wheaton and Mark Kirk event.

HB182 - has jumped some major hurdles in the Senate and is now on the Senate calendar for third reading which means it can be brought up for a full floor vote.   Current IL law provides for the lawful possession of a loaded firearm in your own home, on your own property, or in your fixed place of business. HB182 would extend lawful possession to other legal residences to which you are invited such as a relative's or friend's home.

HB3714 - This bill is also on the Senate calendar for third reading and a vote.  Currently as a condition of probation for a misdemeanor it is mandatory for a FOID card to be revoked. Senate Amendment #1 to this bill states the mandatory revocation of a FOID card would apply only when the offense is a felony or involved intentional or knowing infliction of bodily harm or threat of bodily harm.

HB182 and HB3714 move to Governor Pat Quinn's desk!  With your help and all your phone calls HB182 and HB3714 passed a concurrence vote in IL House of Representatives this week.  HB182 passed 90-28 and HB3714 passed 102-14. KANE COUNTY BOARD TO CONSIDER
PRO-SECOND AMENDMENT COUNTY RESOLUTION

Kane County could become the 91st county  to approve the Pro-Second Amendment County Resolution.  The board is set to vote on the resolution at their regularly scheduled board meeting at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009.

Contrary to comments made about this being a ploy of the "gun-lobby" Kane County Board members need to know this is a movement of the people, by the people,  and for the people. Urge them to vote YES on the resolution.

So, here's your chance. If you were a marshal last year, you know it was no problem at all. The the  James R. Thompson Center is a really good venue - there are no bad seats on the plaza - so volunteers do not have to worry about missing out on the rally by being a marshal.

If you didn't get a chance to help last year and you'd like to pitch in this time, jump aboard and welcome!

For those unfamiliar with the marshals' jobs, the responsibilities include:

    * Define the area and keep people out of the street for safety,
    * Keep the crowd from blocking entrances to the building or the sidewalks around the plaza,
    * Help people find signs, information, restrooms, water, etc.
    * Communicate with security and police personnel to handle emergencies
    * Look cheerful and answer questions, and most importantly:
    * Seriously, this next thing is really important, so pay attention:
    * Enjoy ourselves and have a fun day with like-minded people.

Last year a few of us spent maybe10 minutes at most after the rally picking up a few things, counting chairs, stacking things - in general helping with a minimal bit of clean up.

Local and state office holders along with candidates who began filing petitions to be on the Feb. 2010 primary ballot are also holding town hall meetings throughout their districts.  This is the time for citizens to attend these meetings, to stand up for their rights, share their concerns, and to remind our public servants that they work for us.

Watch your local newspaper, check with the offices of your elected officials and candidates, sign up for their email newsletters and alerts so you will know when and where you will have the opportunity to be heard.

There are many important issues facing Americans today and we should take every opportunity to stand and be counted and remind our elected officials they took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America.  This is especially important here in Illinois where our Second Amendment rights are severely restricted.

FARM BUREAU SEEKS INPUT FROM MEMBERS:

The Aug. 3 issue of FarmWeek, a publication of the Illinois Farm Bureau, featured its annual Policy Development Supplement.    Among several topics on which the Policy and Development  committee are seeking input from members is the issue of whether or not Illinois should join the other 48 states in the nation and pass a law providing for the lawful carry of a firearm for personal protection of self and family.

TEAM UP TO REACH CHICAGO CITIZENS

The annual Black Women's Expo in Chicago was the site of a very successful opportunity for several pro-Second Amendment organizations to team up and reach out to a segment of the  female African-American population in Chicago who may not have ever heard about the positive aspects of firearm ownership.  The pro license-to-carry trio, along with the Illinois State Rifle Assoc., were well received at the 3-day event held at McCormick Place.  Many FOID applications were handed out, questions about firearm ownership were answered, and those who stopped by learned about the racial roots of gun control.

Volunteers who staffed the booth were very encouraged at the number of attendees interested in learning more and wanting to share their own stories of needing a firearm for personal protection.

It is a well known fact that Chicago poses the biggest obstacle we face in getting a license to carry law passed in the state of Illinois.  We must educate a population - an entire generation that has been brainwashed into believing all guns are bad and only a criminal would want one.  We must educate the good folks of Chicago that it is our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.  We need your help as we focus our efforts to this purpose.

IllinoisCarry, SAS, and CORE-Chicago plan to team up again for the annual African Festival at Washington Park on Labor Day weekend - Sept. 4-7th!  This is a major cultural event and presents the opportunity to educate thousands about the Second Amendment.

America Stunned
as U.S. Military Attacked from Within

Americans watched in shocked outrage as the murdered were carried away and the wounded were rushed to emergency rooms.  Attacked, gunned down, murdered and UNARMED.

What was more shocking - that the murderer was a fellow officer or the fact that our own military, our soldiers who are trained for combat, are rendered defenseless on their own home base?

Or maybe it was more shocking to hear Mayor Daley of Chicago blame America's love of guns for the 13 deaths and untold injuries??  How far can his sick opposition to firearms go?  Is it beyond his comprehension that the carnage would have continued if not for a gun in the hands of a civilian policewoman.  Is it beyond his grasp that the only way to stop a violent killer with a gun is a good guy/woman with a gun?

Mayor Daley refuses to see -  it isn't the gun - it's the hand that wields it.

Mayor Daley thinks it's right and necessary to disarm everyone - the innocent  people of Chicago and even our military men and women. He thinks it's okay, he has his body guards.

But it's not okay!  Call your U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative today - demand that our armed military men and women who put their lives on the line in combat be armed when they put their lives on the line at home as well.
Call your State Senator and State Representative and demand that the right to lawfully carry a firearm for self-defense be restored to the good people of Illinois - the one and only state left that does not recognize that right.

Town Hall Meeting to Address Continued Violence

There will be a town hall meeting on the campus of Chicago State University to discuss solutions to the continued violence in Chicago neighborhoods. Illinois Carry knows one of the answers to the violence is to regain our right to protect ourselves and our children in the face of violence.  

IllinoisCarry will be present at this event along with Students for Concealed Carry on Campus and Second Amendment Sisters. We encourage our college age members and supporters to join us and help spread the word about our Second Amendment rights!

Oak Park Police Hand Out Whistles to Fight Crime!

We kid you not! In the face of rising numbers of robberies and burglaries the Oak Park police are handing out whistles to the defenseless public.  Oak Park Police Commander Keenan Williams says cell phones are often stolen during robberies and victims can use their whistles to alert someone to call 911 . . . and when the police get there they will do what, take a report?  You will still be robbed, or assaulted, or raped, or murdered, or . . . but you had that whistle!

Hazardous Material Bill Going to House Floor

HR 4016 could cause a reduction in the production rate of ammunition, creating increased limited availability and driving costs even higher.  HR 4016, is scheduled for a vote on the House floor before the end of the session. Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.) has authored an amendment to HR 4016 which would protect the shipment of ammunition components. Please call Rep. James Oberstar (D-Minn.), chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and ask him to allow a proper vote on the Graves amendment.

With approaching legislative deadlines in the Illinois General Assembly and a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the horizon in the McDonald vs Chicago handgun ban case, anti-Second Amendment Chicago legislators are getting desperate to pass Mayor Daley's slate of anti-gun bills before it's too late.

There are rumblings in the air the anti-gunners are planning an all out push in the remaining days of the session to pass bills such as an "assault" weapons ban which means a ban on sport utility and every day firearms deemed "assault" weapons merely on their appearance or magazine capacity, a purchase restriction of one-gun-a-month, a ban on private sales, state licensing of firearms dealers who are already federally licensed, a ban on the use of non-portable firearm storage boxes in vehicles.

Call your State Representative today and urge him/her to vote NO on any bill that will infringe on the rights of law abiding gun owners.  Call/fax Speaker of the House Mike Madigan and let him know your vote, your campaign dollars will go only to those who support your right to keep and bear arms!

RIGHT TO CARRY TOWN HALL MEETING COMING TO YOUR AREA SOON!

One of the keys to securing a Right to Carry law in the state of Illinois is informing and educating the public about the Right to Carry and how successful it is in the 49 states  where concealed or open carry is recognized as lawful.

Many residents of Illinois do not know Illinois is the last and only state to prohibit carrying a firearm for personal protection.  With the media bias against the Right to Carry we cannot rely on the mainstream media to get the word out - we must take the message to the public and IllinoisCarry is doing just that with our Right to Carry town hall meetings.

Recent town hall meetings in McHenry County, DuPage County, Kane County and in the city of Chicago have been very successful and we are expanding our efforts all over the state and deeper into Chicago!  Find a town hall meeting near you and invite your friends and family who have questions or concerns about the issue. Bring them to the meetings where those questions can be answered and their concerns can be addressed.
