Effingham County Board had a Right to Keep and Bear Arms Resolution on their Agenda for 06/18/07.

http://www.co.effing...ents/AGENDA.pdf

I was told that there was a recent article on the front page of the Effingham Daily News concerning this resolution.

I emailed the Effingham County Board requesting information on this resolution, but have not received a reply.

If anyone here is from that area, and would want to call one of the board members concerning this resolution, you can find contact information on their site.

• Acknowledged the right to keep and bear arms in light of pending legislation that would partially abridge that right.

How did this get by us?  That was nearly 2 weeks ago?

Anyone know who led the charge on this one?

Fantastic!!!  Does anybody know who introduced that over there??  I'm in Shelby, right next door and I think I know one of the members of the board.  The last name is familiar anyway.  Used to work with him many years ago.

Where's the map keeper????? It's time for an update!!!!

I've contacted a NRA member who lives in Cumberland County today at church, and he knows individuals on the board in Cumberland.

I'm to give him (NRA member) the Pro 2A packet next Sunday at Church to pass on two those board members.

I think Molly asked about Coles, is anybody doing anything there or with Fayette, Moultrie or Macon??  I might know some people that know some people in those counties that might help us get started there too.

Don't want to screw up an ongoing campaign though!!

Keep up the great work everyone.  Something like this, to really take hold and sweep the nation, takes a great deal of determination and patience.  But over 10% of Illinois counties already!!  That is just fantastic.

ATTENTION VERMILION COUNTY MEMBERS......

A few days ago, I sent an e-mail to the chairman of the Vermilion County board.....

Dear Mr. McMahon,
As a citizen of Vermilion County and on behalf of many lawful gun owners, I would like to bring to your attention a resolution regarding the upholding of our Second Amendment. Several counties in Illinois have already passed this resoltion and many more have it placed on their agendas. Champaign county's policy board is currently looking at it. I would like to propose that it be added to the agenda of the board of Vermilion county. In short, it is a non-binding resolution to declare that the citizens of downstate Illinois are fed up and have had enough of Chicago dictating it's will onto the rest of the state. I think it is an outstanding idea and I would be proud to have Vermilion county take part in it. It is basically the little guys telling the big guys, "we've had enough!" Attached is an actual copy of the resolution that was passed in Pike county. I am asking that you please examine the document and then suggest the same for our great county. Thank You!

Sincerely,
xxxxxxxxxx

I have not recieved a reply yet, but I urge all members of this county to send him an e-mail about the resolution also.
His e-mail adress is   jmcmahon@vercounty.org

Way to go, Ashdump!

This LTE will be in the CU N-G Thursday "...or shortly thereafter" (Didn't quite make the 250 word limit, but they're prinin' it anyway."

Quote

One by one, the county boards of Illinois are passing resolutions stating they will not support any state legislation that would infringe upon their citizens' rights as guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution.

On June 11, 2003, the Shelby County Board adopted a resolution stating that the constitutional rights of its citizens “…shall not be restricted,” and the rights of the individual “…to own, possess and lawfully use firearms shall not be abridged.” (1)

This year, on April 4 and 11, Brown and Pike Counties (2), tired of the continual attempts by Chicago and Cook County to restrict the rights of the law-abiding citizens of all of Illinois to lawfully own and use firearms also passed “2nd Amendment Resolutions”:

Shelby County has recently reaffirmed its resolution.

In three short months, twelve Illinois counties have passed 2nd Amendment Resolutions.

Eight more counties have the 2nd Amendment Resolution on their agendas.

At least twenty-nine other counties are considering placing it on their agendas.

Recently in Washington D.C. a panel of the Washington D.C. Appellate Court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs and declared the Washington D.C. firearms ban to be unconstitutional (3). The city appealed to the full Appellate Court, but the Court refused to hear the appeal. D.C. now must either appeal to the United States Supreme Court, or rewrite the D.C. city code.

The Champaign County Board will be asked to place the 2nd Amendment Resolution on its agenda in the near future.

Let's see, who do I know in Moultrie county??  Is anyone working on Moultrie, or Coles??

Second Amendment Resolutions Sweeping the State!

As many of you may have heard there is a grassroots Second Amendment revolution sweeping across the state of Illinois county by county in the form of Pro-Second Amendment County Resolutions!

The movement was born on the road to IGOLD - Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day - this past March. While travelling  to Springfield Mark Mountain, a  Pike County board member,  and Jim Logsdon, Brown County board member, were discussing current anti-gun legislation facing Illinois gun owners when they decided something needed to be done on a local level to support our Second Amendment constitutional rights - something that would send a strong message to legislators in Springfield that Illinois gun owners have had ENOUGH of the anti-gun legislation coming mostly out of Chicago and Cook County!  They composed a resolution to present to their local county boards and the rest is now a shining beacon in gun owner history!

The Pro-Second Amendment Resolution was first passed in Brown County on April 9, 2007 with Pike taking up the torch shortly thereafter - a move which ignited a flame in the hearts of gun owners all over the state!  Mark Mountain and friends, who have become icons in the eyes of Illinois gun owners, have since been featured on the Derry Brownfield Common Sense Network, Guntalk.com with Tom Grisham, Cam & company with Cam Edwards, NRAnews.com and many local radio talk shows urging other counties to take up the cause and pass the resolution.

In recent weeks Hancock, Schuyler, Johnson, Randolph, Green, Effingham, Edwards, Wabash, and White Counties have passed resolutions.  Shelby County has a resolution in support of the Second Amendment on the books from several years ago . At present folks in more than three dozen counties are working on similar resolutions:
Adams, Champaign, Christain, Douglas, DuPage,  Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Iroquois,  Jasper, Jefferson,  Kane, Knox, Lawrence, Macon, Macoupin, Madison, Marion, Massac, McHenry, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Piatt, Pope, Pulaski, Richland, Rock Island, Saline, St. Clair, Union, Wayne, Williamson

If you would like to introduce the resolution to your county board and need more information on the RESOLUTION REVOLUTION please contact:

Mark Mountain at m5mountain@yahoo.com   or  Valinda Rowe  rowe54@hamiltoncom.net

Resolution

WHEREAS, the Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms is guaranteed as an Individual Right under the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and under the Constitution of the State of Illinois, and;

            WHEREAS, the Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms for defense of Life, Liberty, and Property is regarded as an Inalienable Right by the People of _______________ County, Illinois, and:

            WHEREAS, the People of _________________ County, Illinois, derive economic benefit from all safe forms of firearms recreation, hunting, and shooting conducted within __________ County using all types of firearms allowable under the United States Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Illinois, and;

            WHEREAS,  ____________ County Board, being elected to represent the People of _____________County and being duly sworn by their Oath of Office to uphold the United States Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Illinois, and;

            WHEREAS, the Illinois House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate, being elected by the People of the State of Illinois and being duly sworn by their Oath of Office to uphold the United States Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Illinois, and;

            WHEREAS, proposed legislation under consideration by the Illinois State Legislature would infringe the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and would ban the possession and use of firearms now employed by individual citizens of _______________ County, Illinois, for defense of Life, Liberty and Property and would ban the possession and use of firearms now employed for safe forms of firearms recreation, hunting and shooting conducted within ____________ County, Illinois;

            NOW, THEREFORE, IT BE AND IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the People of _____________ County, Illinois, do hereby oppose the enactment of any legislation that would infringe upon the Right of the People to keep and bear arms and consider such laws to be unconstitutional and beyond lawful Legislative Authority!

In the next couple of weeks this email ( thanks to Valinda Rowe) will go out to county clerks and Board members across the State of Illinois. The 2nd week of July I am meeting with the media advisor that has got us to where we are today and planning phase 2. I don't know what that is but I think all of you will play a very important role in that phase. We can win this battle for FREEDOM if we don't loose track of WE THE PEOPLE! If you truly believe in the Constitution of the United States of America there can be no controversy and there can be no debate! Most Citizens in rural America believe in the Constitution. We must focus on the basics and we will continue to get rank and file citizens on board, Republican and Democrat. I don't know of any drives in northern Illinois.but I am getting emails right and left and will advise you as I find out. Please if anyone knows any information please email me at m5mountain@yahoo.com, this is getting hard to keep track of and will be doing another round of radio interviews in the near future.

Hi Mark:

You and Jim have sure been doing wonderful things with this resolution!  Your idea was the spark that has now lit the fires of consitutional rights across Illinois.  We all greatly appreciate your efforts, and stand ready in continued support.

A couple suggestions for the email (edits in italics)...

...send a strong message to legislators in Springfield that Illinois gun owners have had ENOUGH of the anti firearms-rights legislation coming primarily out of Chicago and Cook County, where strict firearm bans have been in place for years!
