HB 2619 lowers the legal age to deer hunt with a crossbow from 62 to 55. Last I checked it was in "Assignments". Any chance of this passing before opening day October 1st. I don't know when the IL House comes back.

Anyone can use them starting the first day of the second half of the season

Thanks Guys, I know they're legal after firearms season. Just wondering if this bill that changes the age restriction could pass before October 1st. I'm in that 55-61 age bracket and would like to hunt with my crossbow this October and November.

Wait...you have to be a minimum of 55 years of age to hunt deer with a bow?
I want to CCW my Mossberg 500. That's legit, right?

No, Will, The current law is 62 or disabled with a CROSSBOW. There is bill pending that would lower that age to 55.

So anybody can hunt with a recurve, but you have to be old enough to join AARP to use a crossbow?

oy.

I'm pretty sure it's the Monday after the 2nd gun season, just like last year.

In a lot of states the ONLY people who can hunt with a crossbow are those with a proven disability. Now if we could just get Illinois to allow me to use a rifle.

I don't understand how that makes sense. Crossbows have much higher draw weight than regular bows.

What doesn't make sense? Crossbows usually have a device to **** load them, plus depending on how you are disabled you might not be able to pull a regular bow back.

ETA: Apparently the family filter didn't like the word I used for "making ready to fire."

One of the biggest surprises when I moved to Ohio is that crossbows are legal for anyone for the duration of the archery season. I just picked up a Wicked Ridge Invader and I'm very eager to take it out this season.

I'll probably end up using a shotgun, and am actually looking for a 3.5" pump with a 20-22" barrel for other reasons, but I still like my Savage 110 for deer. I'd also like to have another reason to get a CZ or something chambered in 6.5x55. Oh well, maybe in the future things will change.
