armadroid Posted June 19, 2013 at 04:16 AM Posted June 19, 2013 at 04:16 AM I am thinking about joining, the only thing stopping me is the price. Is it worth it?
Nightowl4272 Posted June 19, 2013 at 07:45 AM Posted June 19, 2013 at 07:45 AM I think they're having an open house this Saturday the 22nd from 10am to 4pm. I'd go but I have to work.
Ccc2003 Posted June 19, 2013 at 11:02 AM Posted June 19, 2013 at 11:02 AM ArmadRoid, it cost $25.00 per year,Chicago would have had all the guns years ago with out the Isra and the NRA.YES IS Worth It,
patriot1776 Posted June 19, 2013 at 11:08 AM Posted June 19, 2013 at 11:08 AM It is a nice range , yes i belong . They have great activities throughout the year . Now if you plan on using it ,yes it is worth it . You can go just about everyday if you want. I usually hit the range 15 times a year minimum, so for me it was cost effective . I may not make 15 times this year because of the ammo shortage and cost . Open house is this sat. .
jfd287 Posted June 19, 2013 at 11:10 AM Posted June 19, 2013 at 11:10 AM The range cost around $270 for the first year, 25 is membership to the ISRA only.
Craigcelia Posted June 19, 2013 at 11:41 PM Posted June 19, 2013 at 11:41 PM Yes, we are having an open house this Saturday so please join us. Its a nice range. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
jkrzos Posted June 20, 2013 at 11:29 AM Posted June 20, 2013 at 11:29 AM Howdy, It is a great range with great people. We have 2 25 position pistol ranges(covered), 100/200/300 yard rifle range, 100 meter & 100 yard, sighting bunkers, a shotgun range, and in the back an archery range with a deer stand(with stairs on a platform). We have plenty of activities during the year, like Glock shooting leagues, Cook County American Legion Rifle shoots, smallbore shoots, High Power shoots, just to name a few. Check out ISRA.org for the calendar of events. Come to the Open House on Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Plenty of Gun Manufacturers, with new guns, plenty of food, plenty of activies for all. Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes & a HAT(supposed to be in the 90's & sunny). Don't forget sun block, insect spray, and hydration unit. jkrzos
lostone1413 Posted June 22, 2013 at 08:43 PM Posted June 22, 2013 at 08:43 PM Many years ago when I lived in Illinois I was a member. It then was well worth the money to join. Back then you could even camp overnight at the range. I don't know if you still can. The road that runs in front of the range use to dead end in a few miles if I remember right. Where it ended their use to be a pretty good restaurant and bar I use to go to when done shooting. The guy who ran the range back the had a trailer on the range. I often wonder if he is still around. His name was Jerry L. If you know him then you will know the last name. He worked as A boilermaker
lostone1413 Posted June 22, 2013 at 08:45 PM Posted June 22, 2013 at 08:45 PM I forgot to add back then they had so many wanting to join you had to get on a waiting list
SFC Stu Posted June 22, 2013 at 09:17 PM Posted June 22, 2013 at 09:17 PM I am thinking about joining, the only thing stopping me is the price. Is it worth it? You bet it is well worth it! If you think the Illinois firearm laws are hosed up now, can you imagine what they would be like without the ISRA? I live across the river in Missouri and have a bunch of friends and relatives in Illinois. I've been a member of ISRA [not the range] for many years. If you shoot a lot and live close to the range, it is definitely worth it!

In fact, we host BSA troops all the time. The good bar/restaurant is Frans on 17. Great food and a nice atmosphere.
jfd287 Posted June 24, 2013 at 07:28 PM Posted June 24, 2013 at 07:28 PM I faxed my membership form yesterday.
AlphaKoncepts aka CGS Posted June 24, 2013 at 07:37 PM Posted June 24, 2013 at 07:37 PM I was at the range for the open house. It seems like a decent facility but hard to tell when there are thousands of people and hundreds of range officers. I would like to attend one day with a member or for an open event (with fewer people). I wasn't really able to check out the 300 yard rifle range which is what I am interested in because it was used for 3 other events rather than long range rifle. They had a 50 cal at the Armalite table which is why I went, I was really hoping to shoot a 50. Just having it there was a tease though because you couldn't shoot it. The RO said it would go through the berm and continue to travel a mile which I honestly find hard to believe, but didn't argue.
jkrzos Posted June 24, 2013 at 08:57 PM Posted June 24, 2013 at 08:57 PM Howdy, Automatic fire & 50 BMG are not allowed on the range. stupid computer won't allow the enter to work. oh, well! jkrzos

I was hoping to shoot one for the first time but my heart wasn't broken because I didn't. I just call BS that the 50bmg would go through the berm AND continue on a mile. While likely it possibly could go through the berm, and while we know it can go over a mile, I would have to think it's a pretty darned flimsy berm if it did both.
jfd287 Posted June 25, 2013 at 01:14 AM Posted June 25, 2013 at 01:14 AM I know they had the 300 yard range set up with different stuff and they had the shotguns there also. Where is the usual range for shooting clays?

It was eating into the berm in front of the pits. It could\would because of multiple impacts blow away the dirt then cut through the concrete wall of the pits.
Smallbore Posted June 25, 2013 at 11:19 AM Posted June 25, 2013 at 11:19 AM I tried to edit my post but system kept failing.I wanted to addNone of the ranges are baffled to stop a 50. The baffles serve a valuable purpose.

Where is the usual range for shooting clays? If you take the road all the way down, it's at the dead end, on the left side. There are three stands. It could be bigger which is being worked on.

jkrzos Posted June 25, 2013 at 11:27 PM Posted June 25, 2013 at 11:27 PM Howdy, The archery range is in the back behind the road that leads to the pits, for the 100/200/300 yard range. They have bales of hay and a platform about 8 to 10" in the air to simulate a stand. No uncased guns are allowed in the back. You will be escorted out of the range area. jkrzos
jfd287 Posted June 26, 2013 at 12:04 AM Posted June 26, 2013 at 12:04 AM Cool. I got it straight in my head now. Thanks all. On Saturday, archery was by the shotgun range and shotgun was the far end of the 300 meter. Ok. I gots. It
